I was looking at Rent.com. Anybody live in a high rise apt with garage parking? I found only 1 in portland...any more? Right now, I live in a high rise in FL and it's great. I'm hoping to find one similar to it.
Doc Oc said:I used to live on the 7th floor in a building on Congress St, which is in downtown Portland. Whenever I told a local that I lived on the 7th floor, they commonly responded with confusion, and said, "There's a building in Portland with that many floors?"
They were being facetious, since there are probably oh, hmmm...... maybe 9 or 10 buildings downtown taller than 4 stories. Most of the taller buildings are headquarters for the different banks, NBC, some law firm, and two "city center" buildings with businesses in them. I'm not sure if they have apts or if they do, how to go about finding them. I wouldn't recommend the building that I lived in.
The previous poster is right - in Bidd, Saco, Kennebunk, etc. you won't find a building taller than 3-4 stories.
One place that seems to own alot of the downtown apartments is called "Apartment Mart". I know, it's a K-mart, ghetto sounding name, but they really do have hundreds of apartments that they lease and might be able to help you find something. Their number is 207-773-1814. Another tall building that might have high-rise apts is called back bay towers. 207 772 7050. probably 15-20 stories high, which is tall for Portland. I always thought it was an assisted living place, but I'm probably wrong. I've never been there. Anyway, good luck to all looking for housing.
Unfortunately, although there are 120 students in each class, you probably won't find any one particular building/complex where more than 6-7 students live. Alot of students live on Hills beach or Biddeford Pool in the seasonal rentals, so it is possible to at least live within a couple of blocks of a large number of classmates.

question.
anyone in Maine now, do you have Verizon or Cingular for cell phones? if so which gets better reception?? my plan is ending soon with cingular and i was just looking into other plans but wasn't sure what was best

docbill said:hehehe are you guys online durring class.
I see myself doing that next year.
SDN is addictive.
BTW which cell phone company offers unlimited long distance?

Tell me about it. Only about 3-5 people on this thread are actually going to attend UNE... we lost a whole bunch to NJ. I was hoping more will be signing on.gioia said:I thought so, too. I think only two or three others in our class are active SDNers though - lot's of people IM.
What do you mean unlimited long distance? Do you mean unlimited minutes? Most plans have 'long distance' from your calling area.
There is also VONAGE. We have that, as well.

Long distance plan in the states and in Canada. My friend, living in Boston, has unlimited long distance to canada. But maybe that is home phone. I will check with him.

gioia said:Some Cell plans have international (i.e. Canada) Vonage covers Canada, as well. Vonage works w/cable modem and you avoid reception issues. It's like a land line w/out hidden fees and high taxes (Maine has high phone tax).
You can find info online.
How many accepted UNErs went to NJ?? Just curious.

and last wheres a good place to meet potential roommates? does anyone room with classmates of the opposite sex or is that too distracting 🙂

brody17 said:If you are having trouble logging in, I recommend calling the help desk. I spoke with a woman who was tremendously helpful. She even explained how these sites fit into a students workflow. Imagine...a help desk that is actually helpful...amazing!

docbill said:For those who don't know what pipeline is some info.
Pipeline is the websystem they have set up at UNE. That is where you check your email, your class messages, student clubs and associations, communicate with each other, chat, posting, helpful information.
if you go to UNE.edu.. on the bottom there is a link to pipeline... or you go directly there.
http://pipeline.une.edu/cp/home/loginf
Follow instructions, using your SSN and your Birthdate to get access. There are two different systems. One is for your grades and records and the other is pipeline. You have to log on to both and get your sign in and password set up.
babyjordan429 said:yup pipeline is working now so lets get a group going on there too...we know those ppl are attending UNE for sure...docbill you wanna set it up? 🙂 lemme know

docbill said:NOPE... THis is the response I got today.
We do not want to start this group until we send out directions to the Class of 2009 on how to set up their pipeline account. This mailing should be going out by the first of February.
UNE2009LMD said:Too bad not until Feb. anyway, have a great Friday everyone! 🙂
