Hey what's up everybody? Just wondering how all my future classmates are doing! Anyone heard anything lately from VCU? Anyone doing anything interesting lately? As you can tell...I'm a little bored! later!

Oh, you would not BELIEVE the interesting life I lead. It is almost too exciting to go into on a forum... but just wait! You will see. It is neverending fun and excitement! How about you?

HAHA and where else does sugar have in mind?

LOL Kooch... you are opening up Pandora's box here...don't know if we are prepared to delve into this issue yet. By the way...I was actually thinking instead of getting my own place (as long as yours is big enough) my husband and I will just stay with you.... I call top bunk!

Ok...ok....umm...not to be the party pooper here...but this is the reason I started the new "official vcu thread"...to stay on topic about vcu stuff :) Anyone have any clue as to how the parking situation is...will it be difficult to find parking in the morning?

i used to live in richmond, there is no parking on the street around the school. if you want to drive, you have to park in the garage and pay for it. if you choose not to drive, you should try to live somewhere close to vcu campus so you can jump on the shuttle which comes every 5 minutes. i was amazd with the shuttle cuz its really reliable. try living on west franklin street cuz the bus to mcv run right through there.

Yeah... I think I'll be taking the shuttle a lot from the academic campus. Parking is free there if you are willing to walk a half mile or so. When I had to stay downtown for extended periods, I parked on Leigh (2 hour parking) and I ran back to reinsert more quarters every 1.5 hrs. It got to be a bit hectic but you have to do what you have to do.

Aquell = the new improved wet blanket of VCU... I have just been demoted :(

So I am confused...I thought during our interview they talked about getting a parking permit and such...is there no designated parking (with a permit) for dental students?? Or is it a pay per day kindof thing? I'm going to be living somewhere around 1-2miles away so not sure about bus route...I'll check on it though...thanks! later

All the information you need... is right here. I wonder how soon we can get our card. I think it is going to be hard from Buffalo. Looks like I need to plan a trip down.

I need a new title Kooch since Aquell stole mine (kidding Aquell)! I thought the point of this thread was also to get to know one another. You can't know sugar without the BS I put you through...all part of the wild, wild ride I like to call LIFE!

What are you guys generally doing for housing - renting, dorms, buying, etc?

I want to buy, but I will probably end up renting, unfortunately...especially after reading about all those people who put a minimal downpayment on their house just to have interest rates skyrocket after their first 6 months so they had to foreclose. I feel I can't rush. I'll probably rent and THEN look for a place...but I'm lucky. I have a husband with an income... hopefully.

Definitely rent, for at least the first year, and then see where things go from there. On a note from earlier in the thread, I for one would like to have red scrubs...anything but purple...

If I am in desperate need of patients to finish up my procedural...er eh competency based requirements in the dental clinic... I am wearing something a little more nat-ur-al in lieu of scrubs...so I guess the color won't matter that much. Ok... I need to get around to researching cancer here. Can't do that sitting on my butt reading dental forums all day... chop, chop :: pep talk :: Can't wait to meet you guys!

Yeh, red isn't too bad. What other colors you think? I would prefer blue...but not sure if another class has that already. Orange wouldn't be too bad...kinda different. So are we going to just show up to orientation in reg. clothes and then order the scrubs that week? I really wish they would have already sent out that packet of info...I'll be moving down in June...and that's not too far off. Other dental schools sent stuff back in January and February. Oh well...I'm happy to be going to MCV!

Yes the parking link helped alot! Thanks. I think I might be near a bus route...but I think I would like to have my car there at school so I can run home if I need to (eg. lunch!!)

Yes, I have kindof wondered about this as well. I was also looking at the fees and noticed that there is an instrument "rental" as well as an instrument "purchase" fee...did they explain this to anyone during their interview? The other schools that I visited had you either rent or buy, not both. I can't figure this one out. Looking forward to meeting you all!

I don't, but from what I am reading, there is a dental kit purchase and a dental instrument rental. It's what constitutes the "kit" and what constitutes the "instruments" that I am uncertain of... Yeah, didn't really clear that up for ya.

Ha! You are cracking me up! Maybe someone will know why...

Aquell, are you mocking me along with Kooch? Cuz um...I have a posse, granted they are all in Buffalo, and um we already have dental instruments...ah, yeah. My post is going nowhere. I know Joo-jit-zoo! Relev. to VCU dental .... teeth are cool, down with Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans! Sorry, didn't want to get off task. Anyway this site has some info but no specifics as to what it includes. It has prices though broken down per year in rental fees and purchase fees:

http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cach...+fee+covers&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us&ie=UTF-8

There is a School of Dentistry section on page 2.

It seems like I heard somewhere that this was a rent to own type of deal, but I can't confirm that in any way, maybe someone in the Dental forum is from VCU and would help...

Anyone really want to find out how much tuition is for 2007-2008? The info isn't out there yet... right? Is anyone else from out of state?

 Sugar looks good in anything... actually, I was just sort of shocked that a guy can differentiate between different greens (by specifying forest green). Jr, I am impressed. You and my husband should meet. Once I wore white 2 days before memorial day and he told me that was a MAJOR fashion faux pas.

So what color are we all in most agreement? We should probably all try to agree on something so that when we get to d. school we can all combine our efforts so that we don't end up with something crazy like yellow!! How bout everyone list their ranking of colors. 1=most favorite 5=least favorite. colors=black, orange, red, forest green, and brown.
