OFFICIAL Waitlist Assistance Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have been accepted off of SLU's waitlist; the letter was dated 4/20/04. I hope this signals the beginning of some significant waitlist movement!

Wondering if anyone has gotten off the NJMS waitlist. I've heard people indicate that they know what number they are on the list. How did you come up with this number? Did you call the school? I'm a little apprehensive about calling. Don't want to be a nudge. 😉

Hey I need some advice. If I send LOIs and updates to multiple schools after May 15th, will the schools share what information I send to each of them? If there is even the slightest possibility, please let me know. Thanks.

Bump guys. I really need this question answered (look up).

i'd consider it highly unlikely that the schools would communicate like that, but i don't think anyone here could tell you that for sure.

i got in off the waitlist yesterday at UTHSCSA via e-mail. they said their phone systems are messed up though 🙂

Thank you Mr. Rosewater. Your response is greatly appreciated.

I would not risk it. Especially since after June 1 schools must inform others if they plan on accepting you. If you are accepted to school A and wrote an LOI to get off the waitlist and school B you wrote one too if school B calls school A (who thinks they have you for good because of the LOI -- as does school B) then you will probably be found out. It's not worth it and you might as well be honest...don't you think?

From the AAMC WEBSITE regarding acceptance procedures:http://www.aamc.org/students/applying/policies/recommendations.htm

Subsequent to June 1, a school of medicine seeking to admit an applicant already known to be accepted by another school for that entering class should advise that school of its intent. Because of the administrative problems involved in filling a place vacated just prior to the commencement of the academic year, schools should communicate fully with each other with respect to anticipated late roster changes in order to keep misunderstandings at a minimum.

Got the call from Dr. Callahan at Jefferson on Friday May 14th. Add me to the list.

Zahiri- thank you sooooo much. I was still considering mailing LOIs to multiple schools, but once I read what you had to say I definitely changed my mind. Whew! Close call.

I am a little disappointed, not much waitlist movement this year?!

just got off the phone with both drexel and nymc...

drexel: JUST finished interviewing. movement will probably happen in june at the earliest.

nymc: movement will probably happen in june.

here's to sitting tight and waiting for that phone call. good luck all!

I need some advice on what to do if the school I've been accepted to starts 4 weeks before the school where I'm waitlisted. I'm kind of far down the list, so I don't think I'll know if I'm in or out until school starts there in September.

~Are there any standard financial rules about tuition refunds, etc?

~Would I just be out the deposit/tuition money if I decided to switch schools after two weeks of class? If so, would that mess up financial aid at the school I'm waitlisted for?

~Is it even possible to withdraw after officially enrolling?

Thanks!!

Hey guys,
I just sent a letter to the Dean of Admissions, and was wondering if I should call him to make sure he received my email because I have had mail delivery problems in the past.

Definately call. Especially if there has been problems in the past. Most of the deans I have used e-mail to communicate with send a reply e-mail confirming they received the information. If not I call them. No one would look down upon you following up on your correspondance.

just got off the phone with Pitts.

According to the person I spoke to, all the wait-listed people are already ranked, and of course, she could not give me where I am ranked.
So, it is all matter of where you are ranked.

Pitt's waitlist is moving! I received a call today from the Dean of Admissions. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting on Pitt - hope to see you in the fall! 😀

does that mean you are withdrawing from Downstate?
If so, yay!
🙂

Just got of the RWJ WL, so I'll probably be withdrawing from Stony Brook...hope that makes someone out there happy!

Congratulations, hopefully that was where you wanted to go. If you don't mind me asking, How were you informed? Have you sent in updates? Do you know where you were in the waitlist? Anyway, once again congratulations.

hypersting,
i received a phone call yesterday. I was on the 'high priority alternate list' and i had written a letter stating that i was very interested, although it definitely wasn't a 'letter of intent'. They did tell me that i could find out exactly where I was ranked on the list...you can probably do that if you want to.....
GOOD LUCK!!!

Hey camstah,
I actually called the deans' office (at UCLA) to make sure he got my email, and I got his secretary. She told me that she'd give him the message, but by the end of the day I hadn't heard anything so I called again. I was a little apprehensive about pestering her, but she kindly told me that he had been in meetings all day but when he comes in she would definitely give him the message. I got an email the same day from the dean saying that he had received it and would make a copy of it to place in my file. Persistence!
