I was thinking it might be helpful to us hopeful "waitlist-ees" to maintain a list of the schools whose waitlists have started moving. So far, I've heard on SDN that Yale has accepted at least two students from its waitlist. Is anyone else aware of any other waitlist movement?

Awesome Idea for a thread -- definitely the info that we are all dying for! I remember saying that some people had gotten off the wake waitlist and the Georgetown letter writing list!

is this really all the movement that's occurred thus far?

I think waitlist movement generally starts to move fast in May, and especially after May 15th and early june.

I noticed on the waitlist club thread that inanna got into GTown off the waitlist (Congrats!) So i'm updating..

Just keeping this one on top as it's of GREAT interest to so many of us.

i am dying for these waitlists to start moving!!! Next time I apply for something, I should list waiting as a hobby.

Does the "acceptable pool" at UCSD count? Keith and Chnobli (excuse the spelling) recently were pulled off it. It was in two individual threads of their own. I think maybe we can update it to two people off in mid-April. Unless someone knows for sure that the a-pool is not a waitlist. I don't know what on earth it is... just waiting to get off it. 😛 Would the official "updater" update?

Updating the lucky UCSDers. Anything off a waitlist deserves a big shout out!

I was accepted of the University of Arizona waitlist from the 10th position and have withdrawn, so they are getting into the teens.

Anybody has any news on the Stanford, Upenn, Columbia waitlist? I know that everyone who interviewed at Stanford didn't get rejected. Those who didn't get accepted were put on the waitlist.

I'm waiting on stanford, cornell, and columbia.

here's the deal:

stanford: you're right, looks like all interviewed were either accepted or waitlisted. ranked waitlist, you can call in june (they wont tell you before) to find out if you have a chance in hell, but they only take 0-20 a year.

cornell: just spoke to them yesterday. no rank. NO ACCEPTANCES OFF WAITLIST TILL AFTER MAY 15 and the list is active till august. around 200 on nonranked list_ used to preserve diversity of class- the puerto rican gymnast from alaska withdraws, they pull the other puerto rican gymnast...

columbia: as of two weeks ago, no movement yet. fewer withdrawals this year than earlier, but that's only because "competing" med schools have just given decisions (harvard, yale, duke, penn...) and they expect many more will be withdrawing soon. waitlist is not ranked.

Thanks for the update Choker. So Cornell does not take people off of the waitlist who are the most interested in the school? That stinks. Thanks for calling them, though. Wanna get drinks sometime soon?

I noticed on the waitlist club thread that inanna got into GTown off the waitlist (Congrats!) So i'm updating...
Just need to clarify...I had been on Penn's, SLU's and Creighton's waitlists when I heard from GTown that I'd been accepted. (I've since withdrawn from the latter 2.) I hadn't actually been on GTown's waitlist, but it was my first acceptance (ty for the congrats, and back at ya dra. foxy on your admit to Finch!!!  )

AND A UPENN UPDATE: I talked with Gaye Sheffler on the 17th, she said they haven't seen as much movement as they usually do by this time as far as people withdrawing their acceptances to go to other schools. They still have more people holding acceptances than they have spots for, so they haven't started pulling anyone off the waitlist yet. She anticipates they will, just later than usual. SO UPenn waitlisters hold on to hope!!!

congrats for the georgetown acceptance!•••••This is a super-cool story, nap, that I hesitate to share for fear of jinxing my luck.

I sent them a letter of intent a few weeks ago and last week was dying to hear ANYTHING from them, so I called to 'check up' and make sure they received the letter. (Of course I knew they did since I sent it certified mail  ). The secretary who answered the phone took my info and said she'd check my file for the letter. She put me on hold, and a few minutes later some other voice picked up the line and said, 'Inanna, were you reading my mind?' I suddenly realized that it was GAYE!!!! She said that she had my file on her desk, and the rest of the conversation is kinda a blur cuz I fell out of my chair at that point and my head started spinning at the thought that she WAS THINKING ABOUT ME!!!

That's when she gave me the scoop about the relative lack of movement on the waitlist. Another interesting aside, she said she wanted to invite me to their 2nd look weekend, but didn't want to place the extra financial burden of airfare on me... 😕 😕 OK, in my mind I'm thinking, Gaye, I would walk on hot coals from CA to PA if it meant a better chance of being pulled off the waitlist!!!! Needless to say, I've been out of my mind thinking things are looking cautiously optimistic...

My premed advisor called USF (April 17th-ish) per my request to check on my status. For the seventh or so time now the Dir of Admin told him, "Meep-Mepp is definately in, tell her to relax and go o the beach." Everyone says, "Hey congrats!" I just want to stomp around *STOMP STOMP STOMP* and say, "Hey, LET ME IN ALREADY!" Arrgghh! 😛 🙄 😛

FYI: On a side-note he also told him that the committee had not reconviened at that point so I guess that means they weren't pulling people off the wait-list yet.

Needless to say, I've been out of my mind thinking things are looking cautiously optimistic...[/QB]••••Yeah, I am basically in the same place-- I had spoken with Gaye who said "I have no idea why you weren't accepted" as she was looking at the committee's evaluation of me, as though that was supposed to make me feel better.

But, I was invited to the second look, which I am going to this week-- Gaye told me that eight waitlisted kids were invited and as such, I was wondering if you were going to be there. If so, I thought maybe we could have some catharsis together regarding getting off the waiting list...

Remember, the deadline is May 15th, so it really may be another couple of weeks before peeps start to send in their notifications. Hang in there!!

thanks for sharing your story inanna. That sounds terrific. Im sure the eight people invited to the second look weekend will be the first eight to be pulled from the waitlist.

Congrats!

•••••Congrats, GG16 for being one of the 8 invited to the 2nd look weekend!!! 😎

Since it is so last minute, I'm not able to go this week, but, upon Gaye's suggestion, have made arrangements to go on May 6th. I'm kinda bummed cuz I would like to be there with everyone else. Nevertheless, I'm grateful for my opportunity, too. Have a great time, wish I were there, and let me know how it goes -- yes, I'd love some cathartic commiseration with ya!

Hey all...I am in the same boat here...waiting for that call from Gaye.

GC - I am one of the waitlistees going to the preview weekend, and would be happy to meet up to find some solace in being one of very few not accepted.

Anyhow, good luck to all those on waitlists!!!

does anyone know when Sinai will start waitlist movement??

Doesn't that upset the sacred diversity of the class? I swear, some med schools are so full of it! 🙂

i hear ya shaggy...i really hope that cornell does not choose people off of the wait list in that way. What crap. They should look at who is continually expressing interest in the school as well...

Wahahh! Just got in to MCV/VCU off the waitlist. It's my first acceptance that I'm really psyched about. I'm out of state, so I guess it's moving. Good luck everyone!!

Adding panda01's info to the list...

Arizona: 4/17
Georgetown: Feb
Jefferson: 4/19
MCPHU: late March

UCI: 4/20
UCSD: 4/16, 4/18
Wake: Around February
Yale: 4/9/02, 4/15/02

Congrats to everyone who has gotten off waitlists!!!! That rocks and I wish you all the best. For everyone else who is waiting and thinking that call could come any day, I have some bad news. I called a couple of the schools which I am waitlisted at, and they were very specific that I would not hear anything for at least a month. Those top, northeastern schools just haven't had the people start dropping them yet, and don't expect to have any open spaces soon. I was told by one school that the EARLIST they would take anyone would be June, and by another that they wouldn't even meet to consider anyone until after May 15. Sorry guys!!!!

valleygal, could you specify which schools you are refering to.

****. well could you give any names?

i know stanford said nothing till june at least
cornell also said nothing till after may 15
did you call columbia (im sure you did valleygal 😛 ).

****. oh well. we've waited this long...
i would just really like to figure out my housing plans for next year. argh.

Sure --
Vandy said that they were not meeting until after May 15th to discuss any of the applications, but after that some would get in, some would stay on the waitlist, and assumedly some would be given the ax!
NYU told me that they did not expect to have any movement at all until early june.
I actually didn't call columbia, because I am sure they have nothing to say as their second look weekend is soon and people wouldn't drop their spot before going back for that. But maybe I will give them a ring tomorrow, just to let them know how much I love them 😀

Anyone know anything for waitlist movement from penn state? ARe all students who are not outright accepted put on the waitlist?

You need to change it to read...

Hey Guys,
Put UCI on the list also. I just got off the waitlist today 4/28!! my first acceptance too!
😛 😛 😛

Congrats Meizy....when did you interview at UCI? When did you get that email saying you were on the waitlist?

Thanks

Hey guys,

I've been on hold at my state school since February and last week (April 17th) I found out that I was placed on an alternate list. Do y'all know if it helps to write letters of interest once you're on an alternate list or does is just make you sound desperate? Just wondering...........

congrats panda! i'll write back to your e-mail tomorrow, just slipped my absent mind.. i hope you get some good news from Tufts soon. oh, interestingly enough, we have a guy in our class who is from Alaska and 1/4 mexican; it's a good thing he didn't drop his position cause they would have had a hell of a time replacing him according to some of the waitlist theories on here 😀 . also a lesson in how random the med school admissions process is; you think the one mexican applicant from alaska would get into UW..
anyway, good luck to those of you waiting, if you're waitlisted at a few places then you have a great shot IMHO.

Altaskier--

I interviewed on 2/21. Got the alternate e-mail I think end of March....

Gluck

I just heard today! I got into UCI too! I interviewed November 8, was put on hold back on January 15 and I got the call from the dean around 11am today! My first acceptance and top choice! WOO-f'ing-HOO!

waitingwaiting -

Whats your state school? I am still on hold at my state school and am waiting to hear from them.

If your school has a ranked list, letters (supposedly) wont do you any good. If the list isnt ranked, write a nice letter telling them how much you want to go there but write it so you dont sound desperate.
