***Official Wayne State Application Thread***

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
She did tell me, though, that there were people taken off the alternate list. So, at least it is moving! (tries to see the good side) 🙄

Well that's good....Wayne State ranks their list right? I wonder how much they stick to those rankings..

Alternate list still as well... 🙁

did she say how many were taken off the list so far?

Or, you can look at in on the pessimistic side, like me, and think "Great, they're moving people from the waitlist, and I'm still not accepted. I wonder how deep on this list I am?"

Sorry, that's just me. :/

Not going to lie, but that's me too. I was trying... like I said, haha. This process seriously sucks. I hope we all get in.

Does anyone remember what alternate list movement is like after May 15? I wonder how many people are on that list...

woohoo!! so what are your preferences now ? Do you want to stay close to canada and come to Wayne?

On an average yr, how many are taken off waitlist...if i interviewed and was waitlisted in jan (interview early jan), what would my chances be???

in canada there is no such term... it's just black. As far as I know

I have a feeling that this year the waitlist movement is going to be normal based on the fact that slow waitlist movement (like last year) is rare, it is statistically improbable for it to happen again.

whats considered a normal movement...after may 15, does wayne tell u where on the list u r?

Not everything works according to statistics! (I know I'm a pessimist). Maybe I should start using the tactics professed by that "Secret" phenomenon. 😛

Last year sucked, though. It was only like 12-15 people.

Really and truly I do not know. I call myself Nigerian/Italian/Canadian or usually Canadain for short, as my mom is from Italy, dad Nigeria and I was born and raised in Canada

Dear Wayne State:
please let me into your school now. I have been waiting patiently since I was put on the alternate list Dec. 20th.

Sincerely,

Me.

if you don't mind, what are your stats?

this will help me get a feel for how long i have to wait after you get off the list.

Inside Edition, Spiel, Hamburger Helper, Keyser, et. al...

How about we all just bumrush Wayne State, overwhelm them by the power of our numbers, and force them to take one of us? I know it's risky, but it could get one of us in. 🙂

Or it could get us all rejected!

I will go into it with the same mindset that I did last time.
I will assume that I am still on the waitlist, and if I'm accepted, it will be an awesome surprise. 🙂

(Interviewed 1/22, Waitlisted 1/31, Still on the Waitlist 2/28.)

I have my interview on April 5th. I have no idea when I mailed the materials, late January probably as usual. (I am a horrible procrastinator because I can find the best excuses for myself. Well, the last two years have been good ones, maybe. 🙄 )

However, Mr. Stringer Bell you are not bringing me any more optimism since your stats are simular to mine. 2.98 uGPA, 3.57 grad GPA 34 on my MCAT.

So yeah, with this being the 3rd time I am interviewing, and with your stats being so simular to mine (I was kinda hoping the grad degree would be a bit of a magic bullet), now I'm all :scared: .

But really all this means is, if I don't get in, I just have to get all my materials in sooner, right after I re-take that MCAT 😱 . And maybe I should apply to more than one school too. 😀

Ahhh, Ms. Hunter, I do apologize for being deflating to your optimism. My only excuse is that there is nothing about this process that is easy to be optimstic about.

Our stats may be similar...but you're in-state, right? That might help you some, I would think. Is this your third cycle interviewing at Wayne?

It takes some serious ovaries to apply to just one school. Good luck on your interview! I'll see you in August. 😉

True dat. Especially with all these traditionals running about with their 3.6, or even 3.4's! 😛

Oooooo you're outta state. Please don't take this the wrong way but, there's hope for me yet!!! *dances about*

It was less about the ovaries and more about the Benjamins. 😀

If I don't get in this time though, I am applying to like 35 schools (MD and DO) and if that doesn't work, it's the carribean. 😉

But yes, I am really looking forward to meeting you in August. :luck: 👍

My home state is California. In-state status doesn't help me, ever. 🙂 But if you're going to dance about, you should at least save one for me. 😉

This is cycle 3 for me. (I took a lot of years off after cycle #2, being a working stiff in the health care field.) Cycle 3 consisted of applying to 35 schools (MD and DO), so yeah, I'm a lot like you, just temporally displaced. I don't think I ever would've gone the carribean route, though.👎 Fortunately, I have a DO acceptance, so I won't have to. 🙂 But, y'know, if Wayne comes calling...

When I interviewed, I bade farewell to my fellow interviewees with "See you in August." Let's see if it worked.

I have been hiding down at that SMP down in Cincy. 😀
Been too busy kicking med student butt to post on forums. 🙄

I remember you asking about it, good to see you didn't need it yourself. 👍

There are many people in my program (It's an SMP where we take classes with the med students and is designed for people with high MCATS but less than stellar GPA's) that are from California just because the Californian schools are soooooo competative. So yeah, I have heard that you all are basically out of state everywhere. Sorry mate, for you being geographically challanged.

Yay! On your DO acceptance. You are at least going to medschool somewhere next year! Though it would be cool to see you around Wayne, and maybe even have you in my lab group. =]

hope to see you in Detroit next year 👍 Why did you apply so late?

Why?

Procrastination?

Laziness?

No money?

The typical string of excuses?
Like......
"OMG Biochem exam is coming! And I haven't even had a chance to look at the HMP shunt pathway! And then I have spent 15 hours looking at the kidney and it still makes no sense! There is just no time to write!"

😳 😛 😀 😉 🙄

I have a few questions:

1. Did anybody that get an interview get rejected right off the bat?

2. Has anybody been accepted off the waitlist so far this year?

3. Does interviewing earlier in the year mean I have a better change of getting off the waitlist (I interviewed in December)?

4. How many people are usually accepted off the waitlist?

5. What do I have to do to get in (eating a poop hot dog not an option)?

Thanks

Hey- so according to my premed advisory, from the people they interview, they accept about 30%, waitlist about 63% and reject about 7%. So, there was probably a small number who get rejected after the interview. I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, that they interview about 700 people. As far as how many people they accept off the waitlist, I think it varies from year to year. I know that last year they accepted an unusually low number. My friend was waitlisted, and she said even admissions was surprised at how few people they accepted off the waitlist. Anyway, hope that helps. I'm in your boat with hoping to get off the waitlist- good luck!

I know (after having called in last time) that there has been movement on the alternate list thus far.

Last year was a horrible year for movement, as the previous poster has said. I was on the alternate list and didn't get off of it. I am on it again this year. Hopefully, things will be different!

wait... they only accept 210 people right off the bat? For a class of 290? Although there have been people who were waitlisted initially and then accepted a month or two later, so that might make sense

gosh i hope i get in in the end of April. We are all due!

Yeah, I was unsure when I calculated the numbers also. I am pretty sure the percentages of 30% accepted, 63% waitlisted and 7% rejected are right, but I may be off on the number of people they interview.

I was told at my interview they interview 1000 for a class of 300 i thought, or i remember at least. In that case 30% is just right.

From the website:

Entering Class of 2006 Information
In-State Out-of-State Total
Number of Applicants: 1,165 2,220 3,385
Applicants Interviewed: 668 213 881
Number of Matriculants*: 229 59 288

And if I remember correctly about 400-450 people eventually get an acceptance offer, based on waitlists, people picking other schools, etc... So your 30-63-7 scenerio might still be right. They seem to under-accept initially, and then try to gauge who really wants to go from the waitlist? 😕 I'd be working that admissions office if I were you guys 😉 (Or not... I don't know?)

thanks all for the replies. i have another question though. on the website it says they offer acceptances from october until march. but i remember the sheet they sent us says they offer acceptances until april, i lost the letter they sent can somebody clarify? also if there is a call-in date in april when is it?
