Yea, i didn't really know what was going on at that point either...I was just curious since I wasn't paying much attention after I realized I was in

heh... yeah. That feeling I got when the phone actually had a ring dial tone, and then when she told me... I don't think I've ever been so excited and relieved in my whole life

anyone have any luck off the alternate list this month?

congrats to all that got accepted today. For those who did not, keep your chins up and let's all hope that waitlist has some movement.

Congratulations to all accepted today! I'm in too!

It's my first choice, so I'm glad I never actually committed to eating a poop hot dog.

For those on the waitlist, hang on! It's worth it. Detroit's one hell of a place.

Looks like I'm still on the alternate list as well....

IN!!! This has been the best 24h of my life😀

i'd love to go to miami instead of staying here in michigan. where else can you party on a clean sandy beach in warm weather after an exam? belle isle???

Lol. We are just stuck here in the cold. It's impossible to get into state schools with warm weather. In addition, there are no private schools in warm weather.

Univ of Miami is private. USC (so cal, not South Carolina) is private as well.

Congratulations UMP and Strongbow! I know how it felt to call in and have that super adrenaline rush right before they told you the news.
Double congrats to your two acceptances DocOB!
Stringer, HH, and shpamme....I hope you guys hear some good news next call in.

you forgot me. i'm still on the waitlist.

Good luck getting in those schools... USC is 72% in state and nearly impossible even if you are in state. Average of 34 MCAT and 3.7 GPA... Hmm...

U of Miami is 82% in state with nearly a 3.8 average and 30 MCAT. It's higher for out of staters.

Both are impossible to get in if you are out of state.

I didnt bother calling, do you know if they will mail out letters sometime soon?

I dont know why they just dont call those who were accepted, like how most schools do it (if a phone call is involved)

Both are "impossible" to get in for OOS? Uh...did you do the math? 28% for USC and 18% for Miami are OOS. That means it's possible. Maybe not for YOU if that's what you meant.

Thanks. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to remain positive (especially since this is my second cycle) with being on 3 waitlists total now. Seems another cycle is in store for me.

Such a snippy tone... 🙄

Lol. Of course I meant me. I was also including a vast majority of applicants. You have to either have some kind of connection to the school or area in addition to some amazing grades to have a chance.

It's a little more extreme as saying that I had a chance to get into U of M as an in state student. It's about 50% in state and yet the joke is that it's impossible for in state students to get in much like they have for California students.

I was set on attending Wayne State so it doesn't really matter to me.

I'm in at wayne! I interviewed Jan. 31st

hey, congrats to everyone who got accepted today. i also got accepted to WSU. but i have also been accepted to Drexel in Philly. I'm from california, so where do all of you think i should go? any input would be nice 🙂

and just to add to the UofM and USC debate...USC is hard to get into for IN-STATE applicants as well....i have a 3.7, 31 MCAT...and no love from the UCs or USC...california schools are just weird

i have an interview offer from drexel that I will most likely cancel after my acceptance today... it really is hard to separate the in-state tuition draw from the school for me. From what I know about Drexel though they send you all over during the clinical years, whereas Wayne has everything in Detroit. Both schools are huge. Drexel seems to be more in a suburb part of town. I think you'd get a lot more research experience at Wayne though, which is key for the top-notch residencies.

I'd go with wayne, but obviously I'm biased 😉

check out the summer issues of scribe on the page, they are about in the middle

cool, thnx!

just scrolled thru the 06 matches. Interesting that a lot of students seemed to stay around the midwest... not sure if that means WSU has a strong rep mainly in the surrounding area or if ppl like to stay close to home (most likely both I'd say...??)

definitely both... but WSU has a great rep in southeast michigan/midwest in general. something like 50% of all doctors in michigan and about 75% in detroit metro were either med or residency wayne alums ... are you from the area ?

if you want to be in the midwest when you graduate, go to wayne state... if you don't, go to where it's cheaper (i'm assuming that's Drexel)

UMP, I thought you were going out celebrating tonight- I did...3 for 1's, darts and foosball

pretty low key for me... i just moved to a new town a couple months ago, and most of the people I know here are law students that have school tomorrow... did you have fun, though ?

LOL, I went out with my best friend(a first year law student) and brother(works at 5am)

Yes it was fun and cost less than $10

I won a neat little guinness bottle opener too

heh... good stuff... i keep loosing track.... are you going to Wayne for sure ?

pretty sure, but there is still a chance I'd hear from my first choice school

I'm just thinking about that in state tuition...Miami would be sweet but you definitely pay for it living there. Of course I've lived in Michigan my whole life, maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

also, do you think that wayne state thinks you're overqualified?

I also go to UMich and my gpa is a 3.4 with a 30 on my mcat.

I hope the reason I'm waitlisted is that I'm overqualified, I'm going to tell myself that so I feel better! I'm still waiting on Umich though...maybe Wayne thought I'd get in there? who knows...

Jordanfen - are you a Umich March decision?

jordafen, - im a umich undergrad on wayne's WL as well... pretty high stats, much over their averages. I'm very confused.

Good luck with all your plans... everything will get settled the way it's supposed to in the end

I agree. I went to UMiami as undergrad, which practically means nothing in med school applying anyway, BUT I kicked butt with my gpa and only got the magical 30 on MCAT. No love at all.

i don't think there's such a thing as getting waitlisted for being overqualified 😕

i don't think so either... it is more concerning your willingness to go to Wayne St. and be in Detroit. If you profess love for the school and the city, you will get in 👍

Well, I did just that and was waitlisted. 😕

I definitely didn't profess any love. I told them what I like and dislike. I assume they appreciate someone who isn't likely BSing.

I suppose I should stop talking out of my ass now.... 😉
