Ohh no Stringerbell, I was never one of you ... my acceptance was late, but direct.
Aww, and here I was, trying to welcome you!
I guess I'll have to amend that to "Well, thanks for opening up a spot!"

i've given up hope on the waitlist. i guess it's time to start studying for the mcats again.
This is my only acceptance. It is also approximately $30K (total) more expensive than all other US schools I'm waitlisted at. I just got back from the bank and we've concluded that it's not financially feasible without putting my parents through serious financial strain - and medical school is not worth this, especially not Wayne State.
I spent close to $10K this application cycle - I guess I should have looked into it more before being so eager to apply to American schools. I feel like total crap right now, with the possibility that I will not being going to med school this fall.
Well, at least Dartmouth has some financial aid for international students....anyway, I've withdrawn from Wayne State. Good luck to the OOSers/Canadians on the WList.
With all of these people withdrawing, no one has heard anything from Wayne State in terms of movement? I would think they would start accepting people off the alternate list by now if they did not overaccept.

I am thinking they are waiting until May 15th before accepting people off the alternate list. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
I think you're probably right.
I'm sure they made a number of offers on April 25, and some of those people will have decisions to make on May 15. (Though, I would imagine with interviews being that late, then perhaps they won't have other choices?) But in any case, people are going to take their time to make a decision and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a decision. I would anticipate early June before knowing. Heck, if things go true to form, they'll probably have the waitlist decisions on the last Wednesday of the month (post-ADCOM meeting), and this time they'll call us instead of us calling them!
I was told by an interviewer that they do no re-review applicants who are placed on the alternate list on the committee meetings after the initial decision has been made. Therefore, once you are on the list, you remain at your spot until you are accepted.
That would exaplain why they say not to submit additional material.

So the proverbial ranked waitlist does exist, then, and we're all numbers that are going to be picked, one by one? If this is the case, then I really wish I knew what number I am. :/

so is there no point in sending them a letter before may 15 updating them on activities, grades, and such?

does anyone know if you can drop in rank on the waitlist? for example, i interviewed and was waitlisted in january, so is there a chance that people interviewing after me can be placed higher on the waitlist?
I wanna know this too. Also, are the ranks on the waitlist based on all the people on the list or do they rank you according to the date/time you interviewed?
I have no idea. I'd call and ask. They were pretty open, minus the "where do I stand exactly" part.

remember the soup-nazi from seinfeld? i guess we can call wayne state the rank-nazi.![]()
"No rank for you. NEXT!"
I just found out I am in the Top 500 on the waitlist!

I called wayne state today and got some really helpful information from them regarding the alternate list (which I am on).
1) There are just a little over 200 people on the list right now--this surprised me, as I thought it would be quite a few more.
2) After May 15, they will reject some on the alternate list who simply don't have a chance of getting off.
3) Admissions, as in all schools, overaccepted for the class--the class is currently full. The movement in the next month can vary anywhere from 0 to 100 people.
4) There is only one alternate list (as opposed to an in-state and out-of-state ones) We are ranked on a scale to 3.0 and this number is set in stone. I tried leaving my name and saying I was still interested and was told literally that's not gonna help--the files are in a drawer with their score and ranked.
So here's to hoping that everybody and their brother drops from wayne!!!![]()

agreed...this info contradicted some percentages earlier about how many people are accepted/rejected/waitlisted after interview.
i have to assume this woman was correct. the percentages were hearsay earlier and this was literally the secretary of the admissions office.

then this (200 ppl) doesn't go along with the idea that wayne state puts most people on the alternate list.

According to my advisor, who referenced some sort of book he had on the subject, Wayne typically takes 40-50 off the list.
edit: what we need at wayne state is a regime change (aka change of undemocratic/dictator like adcoms).
btw, good info!
now, the question is, should I still study for an mcat retake in light of this news?😕

I am basically assuming I got rejected, I just won't get the letter until the first week of September like last year. So it will be the filling out the old AMCAS this weekend for me.
That waitlist info is good to know though...Though becoming a number sucks.
Yes. Start studying. I am. 😡
I have been on Wayne States waitlist two years now.
It was my impression for both of those past years that there was very little waitlist movement. But there being only 200 on the waitlist makes me feel a little better. Not much though. *counts her pennies, hopes she has enough to apply to 30 schools*![]()
That waitlist info is good to know though. Since I had always thought they community built, and I would have to wait for a in-state non-traditional to drop. So, I myself am actually happy they don't do that. Though becoming a number sucks. 👎
Good luck everyone, hopefully there is more movement this year.![]()
