Does anyone know the time frame for receiving our financial aid packages? Do we also get a packet to apply for scholarships (I know Mizzou and some other schools do that)?

Well, I'm in the same boat as you so I don't have any solid information but from what I heard some people got scholarship offers based on their application (not me 🙁 ) and after our first year we can apply for them instead? And I think I remember from my interview date that we wouldn't have our financial aid package until after April 15th...but take that with a grain of salt because its all heresay.
 
I e-mailed Jane Woodland re: financial aid a couple of weeks ago, and she said late April or early May. Definitely after the April 15 deadline.

Side note: Got bored at work and was looking at the Columbus Zoo's page. A year's membership (Free parking and Free admission) is only $44! Woo! Definitely investing in that after I move in considering it pays for itself after 2 visits!

Edit: Apparently we get in for $5 as OSU students? If we still have to pay for parking, then it pays for itself after 4 visits. Still not bad since us OOSers will be here all next summer.

Any current students know where we can find a list of discounts that our BuckID gets us?

A couple things about the discount tickets: you can only get 2 tickets a week, they are at the union which is on main campus, and they are not good until after you start vet school, so you can't get them say early August when you move down, even though you are enrolled, you have to have actually started school. And I do believe that the discount tickets stop being offered for June and July. I have gotten cosi tickets twice and zoo tickets once. Cosi tickets do not have an expiration date on them and the zoo tickets are good for almost a year, so if you plan to go in the summer, you could get two tickets a week during the year and use them. It is kinda a pain getting tickets though, they usually sell out by Monday and go on sale Thursday evening at 5 and if you go for 5 there will be a line. Totally worth it for just the random trip to the zoo or cosi like I do, but if you're gonna be going often in the summer, you'd probably be better off to just get zoo membership. I think they have a double membership where you can get in with a guest, too, someone I went to the zoo with before school started had that so then you could take a friend with you if you don't have a significant other. Not sure the cost for that, but if the friend gave you $5 it would probably pay for itself after a few visits.

Also, if you like water parks, they have zoombezi bay tickets for $10 where you can go to the waterpark and the zoo. That would regularly be $33.
 
Oh and I am not sure when financial aid amounts go out, sometime over the summer. I do know that the money doesn't actually come in until like the week before school starts which caused some issues for some of the OOSers

Be patient 🙂 Our financial aid person is awesome, but very busy. I believe we got our awards and such in June-ish and then it took some time after that before stuff was put in the system. For example, I am taking summer classes that start in June, and my stuff is not in the system yet.

Everything happened for us through email, so I'm guessing your class will be the same way. My advice to you: set up your Buckeyelink email, learn how to check it, then wait patiently and ENJOY YOUR SUMMER. 🙂

Uhh , yea! Very strange! My email def said I was #2 when I was first told
I was on the waitlist.... Oh well! At least it still ended well!
 
Does anyone know when the first semester book lists will come out? I found some of the books the first years recommended we should get online for really cheap, but I don't want to buy them in case our professors change the books.

For those of you wondering about Ohio's crazy unstable weather....its FINALLY been warm for more than one day in a row. It's been absolutely beautiful t-shirt & shorts weather this week. Last week I was wearing Hoodies and jeans except for the one day when it was crazy hot. I'm about an hour and a half from Columbus right now so I'm guessing the weather is similar there. You just never know what the temp is going to be day to day 🙁 Just be prepared for all seasons at all times!

Call admissions tomorrow, they are all so nice! I cried on the phone like a maniac when the Dean called me and they laughed. They won't mind if you call and ask!!

I believe we have tons of international opportunity through our school. I remember Tanzania, for sure. At Purdue, I went to Romania on a service learning study abroad, so I definitely recommend traveling abroad. It's awesome!

Does Dr. Couto still take a group out to Spain to work with greyhounds? One of the vets I work with says I NEED to go on that trip. She didn't go to OSU CVM, but her best friend did and loved that trip. Learned a ton!

Yes he does! I didn't get in this year but am hoping to go next year.

He gives priority to upper classmen, basically. And then it's based on your availability (he offers a few different trips/year).
 
Thailand and Spain both sound exciting! I did a veterinary study abroad in Japan during undergrad but I am itching to go abroad again 🙂

For OOS students, how does study aboard work with our 30 days? I know it said that it makes an exception but does it just take away all of your remaining days or do you still get 30 days on top of the trip?

It's doable! Just stay on top of the material from Day 1, and you'll be fine. Definitely keep up in clin path and anatomy.

Thanks Nstarz, I'll make sure to do that! I am getting so antsy... Half of me feels like I should start memorizing anatomy now from the lab guide, but the better half of me is saying its pointless! I am starting to freak out already and we haven't even started... I just don't want to be "that person" that failed out...
 
Am I the only OOSer who wishes the residency office would just lay out all of the rules clearly and answer our questions consistently? I'm getting more and more confused about what I'm supposed to do...
