Ohio State c/o 2017 Applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ohio is going to have 7 days of interviews this year, from December - February.

You don't happen to have any inside info as to when they might start sending out invites do you? 😀

Nope 🙁 But I will definitely let you all know if I hear something!

Thanks NStarz! It helps to have some sort of idea of when interviews are!

Thanks for the information!

I got confirmation that my application was complete, so no need to worry about transcripts anymore! 😀

My application status has been changed from "Incomplete" to "In Review", and I picture 10 people sitting at a round table with my application. All of them are shaking their heads in disapproval.

The horror!

Whats the website to check if our applications are complete or in review? When I click the link they sent me it says error...

Maybe just try to access buckeye link from the OSU home page?

I just want them to start interview invites already, is that so much to ask?!

I am so anxious about hearing back! I called OSU at the end of last week about when they are releasing interview offers -- they said mid November at the earliest :/ Hopefully we will hear sooner!

ahhhhh 🙁 The suspense has been killing me for months already, and now it's later than I thought?! ....I wish we could just fast forward for a bit

Booooooo

No worries. They are really quickly working through all of this and want to get you guys early interviews. They had a ton of people apply this year (and why not? OSU is awesome!!) I know the waiting is unnerving but you're almost there. Time will seriously fly by. Trust me.

Time needs to fly faster! My email addiction is getting progressively worse. I am glad to hear that it might be mid- November before they start inviting. A general time frame is better than nothing. I am so ready to start!

agreed! I am also OBSESSED with checking the status page... Does anyone know if the status page gets updated before e-mails/letters are sent?

I recall emails being sent out before the status page was updated.

I too remember email long before the status page was updated.

Yep. Even after I was accepted my status page didn't change for a while.

Remember to check your spam box too! Sometimes when OSU sends emails, they send them to entire groups at once. I remember finding at least one OSU email in my spam email.

Acceptances vary by applicant. Some aplicants can recieve an acceptance the day of the interview (usually by phone call) or shortly after (usually within a week). This is usually a very small percentage of applicants, so do not worry if this doesn't happen for you. From what I have heard, it is reserved for highly ranked applicants that absolutely blow the interviewers away.

Somewhere around the first week of January is when the first "big" wave of acceptances went out for the C/O 2016. This was done by email. The second wave was roughly a week later. I interviewed on December 10th and was accepted on January 4th.

Things may be different this year based on the different interview dates (which now go into January/February?)

Thanks! 😀

Sorry for the 4590374897 questions, but does anyone know how many IS and OOS applicants there were this year?? I saw on another thread that there were 800 more OOS this year?!

It was 500. I was embellishing a bit 🙂

260 resident applications and 1066 non-resident applications.

I spoke with the admissions office again today (I wish I wasn't so nervous/obsessed 🙁) and they said interview offers are going out mid-late November... I then asked the guy if there would be waves of interview offers, and he said he ASSUMED that they are all going out at once. Does anyone (NStarz perhaps? Since you are my lifeline 😍) know if this is true? It definitely has pros and cons... but it's frightening to think that if we don't receive an offer by the end of the month then we're out of the running...

Not a clue. Sorry 😛 Once my anatomy exam is over (Monday), I can poke around a bit and see if I can get some info.

Do not go into the interview expecting to get an acceptance right away, that can lead to major issues with being anxious and nervous and thinking they're going to reject you. The end of November and all of December was HORRIBLE for me because I interviewed mid November and was thinking I'd hear back quickly and then nothing. I waited 53 days! It was pure torture and I got myself worked up for nothing because I got accepted, not even waitlisted then accepted. I freaked out because I had the early interview date in November and everyone else on here that had that date got accepted within a week, except me 🙁. If that is you, remember that this board has very few people on it compared to the total so what happens here isn't necessarily reflecting the general pattern. At orientation I met a few other 53 day wait people, so I was not alone.

Also, if they hand out the information packet and you read acceptances will go out between say December 20th and January 6th like last year, do NOT freak out when December 20th comes and you didn't hear back! It is a general time frame, last year the huge wave of acceptances came January 4th (luckily when I got mine) and January 7th (I may have had a heart attack if forced to wait those 3 days and see yet another wave get accepted and still not have heard anything). Some will hear much sooner, but seriously, believe them when they say no news is good news, it means they're still considering you and they have NOT forgotten about you, I promise. It is a rough wait though, and I know from experience how tough it is to go through it. Just try and relax and know you've done all you can at that point.

I know that's jumping ahead a bit, but seriously, if you think this waiting is bad, it's nothing compared to the wait after the interview. Everytime the phone rings, you check your email 50 times a day. I seriously wish I had taken the later interview date so the wait would have been shorter, it was crazy!

Oh, and one thing I did notice is that they seem to accept their out of staters first, I think so if they already know they want to go to OSU they don't have to spend the money on travel to get to the other interviews if they know they're in at OSU. Just my opinion and not sure if it will be the same, but if you are IS, just remember that. I feel the ISers are less likely to get accepted right away and more likely to get accepted in the mass email. I don't really like the strategy because it made me feel that I wasn't a priority to them, but the review process is super tough and time consuming, so they can't get all the invites out right away and I agree with the philosophy of accepting OOSers first, not because they're more important to you, but because you give them valuable information that can save them a lot of money, plus they really want you guys to come to OSU and want you to have ample opportunity to choose OSU 👍

Good luck guys. Coming from the other side, I just have to say enjoy this time, things get crazy in vet school and you'll wish you had enjoyed the time leading up to it. I would have enjoyed my summer a lot more if I had known how vet school would be instead of counting down the days until it started. I enjoy vet school, but it is seriously more work than you can imagine!

My understanding is that the early interview invites go out first, then the remainder of invites. Since interviews are going to be spread from Dec-Feb I'm not quite sure how that is going to work this year. But they are definitely trying to accommodate for the increase in applicants.

Also, they send out quite a few rounds of acceptances. I interviewed on Dec 12th and received my acceptance email on Jan 13th. But last year interviews ended on Dec 16th. So they may wait until all the interviews have been completed before they start sending out acceptances? Not sure but that's my guess.

Hope that helps!

For any current OSU CVM students: Do you remember when you received your acceptance? How long after your interview did you hear if you were accepted?

I can't remember the exact date of my interview but I think it was maybe 11/11 or 11/12? I was one of the lucky ones who got an acceptance offer the next day and I'm a local in state student. So I think it varies a lot for every individual and there is probably no predicting it by in state/ out of state status how long your wait will be in hearing back. Even a one day wait was intense and I know people at the early interview who waited longer. Try not to make yourselves nutso over it (easier said than done though, I know). 😳

Quick update -- I had to check the status of a transcript last week, and admissions said that they expect to send out the first wave of interviews the last week of November (after Thanksgiving) and may be sending the last interview invitations out as late as February/March.

FYI: Interviews this year are Dec. 1, 17, 18, 19 and Jan. 12 and 26.

Good to know -- thanks! So I'm assuming this means that they will not be sending out interview offers as late as Feb/March?
