I really feel like I blew my interview and now I’m freaking out

Oh no! I wasn’t overly impressed with how mine went either - my interviewers weren’t friendly at all. I’ve heard a lot of people say that about today though. Chin up! I’m sure it’ll work out. Don’t let yourself stress more about it - then you’ll just be miserable!

Mine seemed friendly but it definitely didn’t feel like a “conversation” like I thought it would be. Besides the standardized questions I didn’t feel like they tried to get to know me at all and they wouldn’t even try to elaborate on my experiences. I’m hoping it went better than I feel like it did and I’m trying not to beat myself up but I’m pretty disappointed

I feel so much better now reading everyone’s responses (not that I wish bad for anyone) because I felt the exact same way. It was a “conversation” but it was a cold one. I felt like none of the questions correctly represented my abilities/ qualifications and I was disappointed when I left. My interviewers were friendly though. I just overall didn’t feel like “wow that was great” when I left. Maybe we all did better than we thought.

I feel the exact same way. I’m confident and happy with how I responded, but my interviewers weren’t conversational or friendly at all. I tried to provide extra comments when they spoke and facilitate extra conversation but they just didn’t respond to it. I answered the questions and they told me I addressed everything, then asked the next question. It felt super short and rushed. I don’t feel like they got a good view of me as a person.

I feel so much better now that I know I wasn’t the only one!!!! I thought it was an open file interview? Mine told me they didn’t look at my application/file beforehand they just wanted to judge who I was today. My interview was short and I left feeling like they didn’t know me any better than when I walked in that room

I was told it would be open as well! But they didn’t have my application and didn’t seem to know what I was talking about when I brought up my experiences....

Does anyone know what percentage the interview contributes towards final decisions ? Do academic/non academic factors also influence final decisions? Or is it only based on the interview? Thanks!

Yeah your interview just adds to your file review score. So if your file score was great you can do not as well on the interview score.

Hey I totally agree. It was nothing like I thought. I thought it was going to be more conversational and I felt like I couldn’t even speak because my answers were dumb. I felt like I didn’t tie into any of my experiences!! I think I went in circles :/

I’m so confused about that!!! I didn’t realize it wasn’t open until legit the end of the interview (this is my first interview ever so I didn’t really know how it would work). I feel like it wasn’t a conversation AT ALL and they blankly stared at me and I felt like I couldn’t elaborate

People were saying about the first interview date that it was so conversational and I don’t understand how they could change it for the different weekends

I will say, I had mine the first week and my experience was similar to those that had posted. Everyone said it would be so conversational but they asked me their 4 questions and then I asked my questions and that was the interview. It wasn’t nearly as conversational as I was expecting. They were friendly, sure, but it definitely wasn’t a flowing conversation.
I also think my interview was closed file. They didn’t have my application in front of them, but I’m not sure if they had reviewed it prior or not.

I interviewed yesterday as well. I guess it really depended on who your interviewer were. Right off the bat we were talking in the elevator and everything and they told me they only had access to my animal and vet experience. They also asked me 4 questions, but they asked questions of my responses and it was fairly conversational. They asked specifics of my application and we actually went 15-20 over the required time. My application isn’t perfect, but I feel like my interview went really well. I’m sorry for those of you who didn’t have the same experience, but I bet you did a lot better then you think you did!

I don't remember my interviewers' names because I was too nervous to memorize them. Do you guys know how I can find their names so that I can send thank you email?
Maybe just email the admissions people that the thank you email would go to and ask for the names of your interviewers? It would be [email protected]

I’m curious, what questions were asked that people were having difficulty with?

I wouldn’t say anyone had difficulty - just that the interviewers weren’t overly friendly as I was told to expect. I don’t know about anyone else but since there’s still a day of interviews left I don’t feel comfortable sharing actual questions.

Were they mostly questions similar to past cycles (like these)?

I know how stressful the time after interviews can be just waiting...I remember it seemed like a lifetime. Just don't overthink everything you said. I'm sure ya'll did awesome. If you ever need anything, even if it's just a little reassurance, reach out🙂

Hey y’all, so I just wanted to add a little tidbit from a professor at my school. She graduated from OSU and did her Pathology internship/residency there as well as sitting on the admissions board. She mentioned that the interview is analytical. They set your interview at certain levels of difficulty and keep the questions consistent between everyone. They just want to see how you react. And your score is based in THAT specific time frame of interviews. So I interviewed the first weekend, it’ll be different the second and the third. So just brush it off, keep your head high and be confident!!

When you say specific time frame, do mean that entire day or that exact time compared to others also interviewing at that time?

Edit: reading again, I’m pretty sure you meant specific day haha. Sorry for having a moment!

Is there another round of interviews still going on? I haven't heard anything since the email that said I was on a waitlist for interview

Ya this Saturday is the last round of interviews

Yep, I meant the day. It's supposed to even out the playing field between everyone that day

(Current 2nd year) I’m sorry that some of you were disappointed in your interviews. To make everything fair, interviewers probably could not elaborate/ ask further about your responses to keep the interview fair amongst all interviewers. They have to grade the response to the question, not “dig” for more info as this would vary amongst interviewers. I’m sure you all did better than you believe. I hope to see you all next fall!

Had a great day at OSU. I found the interview process very well organized and enjoyable. Everything from the facilities, administrators, faculty and student ambassadors to be some of the nicest people I’ve met. It would be an honor to receive an acceptance!!!

Glad you enjoyed yourself! I love it here🙂

Any idea when we all might hear? 2 weeks from now, later in February?! Never ending wait!

Did they happen to give a timeline in the information sessions today?

Some of the student ambassadors said in past years applicants heard by the 10th of February, but during the information sessions they said they are trying to get them done by the end of February. They interviewed about 500 applicants so it’s a heavier load than last year. So I guess anytime next month.

Just got an email saying to create my buckeyemail email. What does this mean? (Don’t want to get my hopes up haha)
I just got the same! Someone, help us ease our anxiety!!! haha!!!

Are you sure that it means you were accepted??? I got it also but can’t access anything....no password was sent.

It’s supposed to be the same password that you made for your regular Ohio state portal. It just sends you to a Ohio state mailbox.

It should be the same password you used to access and complete the supplemental application. I am terrible with passwords so I obviously forgot mine. I called the IT Service Desk in order to set up a new one 🙂

I got my call for the acceptance first and a few days later, I got an email that told me to create the buckeye email. I did it and got the acceptance letter soon. It must mean a good sign!
I am trying not to freak out until I receive a call or an official email notifying me of acceptance into the program! I just set up my email. It's so hard to focus now!!
