Thanksss! I think it worked now!

:highfive:Super congrats! You done now or does anybody else on your app list trump this acceptance?

I still wanna wait to hear from other schools, because Mississippi was never my first choice, but not that one of my friends may be going to school there to get her masters, I am warming up to it! I would love to get into LECOM/South because of the accelerated programs they offer, but we will just have to see what happens. Thanks again!

Congratulations on your acceptance. Judging by your stats on that PharmApps page, there should be a lot of people with substandard PCAT composites and grades getting in.

Yeah I know my scores suck, that's why I am taking the test again Saturday...

Congrats on Ole Miss!!! Good Luck this saturday!!! 👍

Congrats on Ole Miss. You will absolutely love Oxford and our campus.

First time I've seen anyone mention us on this message board.
Out of state kids are rare in our pharmacy program unless you attend undergrad here from out of state. Do you have a degree in something or are you older with a lot of experience?

I am actually really confused by my 'acceptance'. I applied for what I thought was the PharmD program, and the letter I got basically said I was in the actual school, but I had to fill out background supplemental applications and pay a fee directly to the school of pharmacy. I am confused though because the papers were for a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences, so do you need to have a BS to get a PharmD there? I am taking the last of my prereqs right now, but I only have an AA. I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, I am going to call the school tomorrow. But I can't wait to come up for applicant day in January!

heyy girl ^ ^ just stopped by to show ya some love and congratulate ya hun...😉

by the way... i know it's none of my business. but, from what i saw on the ole miss sop site. i think a BS is required upon completing your last 3 "professional years" of their PharmD program. so, YES i believe you do and as for that BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences...? it's awarded after your first professional year of successful completion. then again, i'm sure PharmacistReb, will clarify things awhole lot better than myself eh[who better to ask after all]?... ANYWAY... best of luck! to ya moni...:luck:

hey moni how was the union interview. have they called you yet. i remember my interview was on friday and they called me on monday and got my acceptance letter on saturday. i already gave them the $1000 deposit. what did you think of them??

I thought Union was wonderful! The faculty and staff were incredible and some of the nicest people I had ever met! My interview was with a professor and a P2. I was really nervous even though they told us not to be. We were supposed to find out an admissions decision that same day,but Josh Clarke had his mind on going to the football game, so he said allow him until Tuesday to contact us. I heard nothing that day, but I got a call Wednesday. After a few rounds of phone tag, I spoke to Josh and he told me I am kind of on the wait list? He said they will put my app in a pool of others and when interviews come around, they would reconsider. He said he would contact me of anything changed. Did you get a tour of the school? We went into the gross anatomy lab and it was just that...GROSS! haha but congrats on the acceptance! It was a beautiful campus and I am not giving up hope!

Thanks! Yeah I was just confused, but I really didn't wanna rule out Ole Miss completely because it's a great school! I am hoping I can clarify everything when I call them. But I see you were accepted somewhere too! Congrats right back at ya! =)

I see that they've extended their deadline. Does anyone know if they accept transfers? I have a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of South Carolina. Since it is not a "pharmaceutical science" degree, can you still get into the Ole Miss program and if so, how does that work? Thanks in advance.

Give them a call! It wouldn't hurt to ask!

I actually applied to Ole Miss last year for Fall 2009, and got accepted from out-of-state. Pretty much, you'll have to earn your BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Ole Miss after spending 2 years before moving on to the 2 yrs of the PharmD program in Jackson. As long as you meet the 2.75 GPA, then I think you can move on. I don't know if they're changing the curriculum or requirements this year, but I can answer any questions that you have regarding the Applicant Day.

Yeah let me clarify the B.S. at Ole Miss.

When you get accepted to our B.S. program, you were accepted into our 4 year pharmacy school. Don't let that be confusing. We are awarded a B.S. after two years (P1 and P2) and then we continue to P3 and P4.

Essentially, it's a meaningless degree in terms of what you can do with it.

The first two years are in Oxford. The third year we do problem based learning in Jackson, MS. The last year we can choose anywhere in the state where there are preceptors to do rotations.

Also, a little tidbit for Moni. Ole Miss is highly ranked when it comes to passing board exams after graduation. We were ranked #1 for three years in a row recently with 100% of our students passing the boards.

Also, we are an established pharmacy school (est. 1908) with a lot of opportunities, more so than these start up schools close to here (Union, Belmont).

Ole Miss is a great pharmacy program. Oxford is a great town to live in. It's actually much safer than Jackson, TN. It's a very small town as you probably know from doing applicant day here.

I'm a little bit biased but I highly recommend Ole Miss. Any other questions, please ask. I love touting our program.

So you're saying after the 4 years, I will end up with a BS and PharmD degree? I can't wait to go up there for applicant day! My dad has been shooting for me to go to Ole Miss for sometime now!

Yes, you get a B.S. after completion of P1 and P2. After P3 and P4 you receive the PharmD.

There is no difference from any other program except that you get a bachelor's from completing the first two years.

The B.S. gives people a chance, for whatever reason, to forego the last two years to attend our grad school in pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmacy administration, go to med school, or be a pharmacy rep, etc.

Just a clarification Moni, you are not officially accepted until after applicant day. They will make a decision regarding your acceptance after applicant day. You won't know for sure of the admission committee's decision until mid March or early April.

Thanks for the clarification! And yes, I knew I was accepted into the actual school, but after applicant day, I will be considered for the school of pharmacy. I really appreciate you taking the time to clarify this for me though. Ole Miss is one of my top choices, so I hope I get in!! Thanks again!! 😉

No problem!

If you choose Ole Miss, you won't regret your decision. It's a fantastic program with excellent facilities. We built a brand new auditorium for P1's and P2's right before my P1 year. So you will be in a state of the art lecture hall. And it's in the heart of our campus so you can get involved in other activities outside of pharmacy school.

Not to mention, outside of pharmacy school, Oxford is a REALLY fun town to live in. If you haven't experienced The Grove before football games, then you need to come down during the next two weeks and check out the UT or LSU games.

Can you tell us what to expect on applicant day? All I know is that it begins friday and ends saturday, which I find kinda odd. Any feedback will be appreciated.

I have called so many times to try and get info and nobody could tell me anything. I called last Friday and they said they will be sending you info reguarding applicant day through your ole miss email account, so make sure you activate and check that. I know it will end around 5pm Saturday (I am going next weekend). All she could tell me was that we will be getting measured for out lab coats and there will be a skills test. Also we will be having some sort of interview. Check your email for more info.

Thanks for the info! I'm going next week too. I don't understand why everyone gets measured for lab coats if not all of us will make it 😕 but i'm excited about the whole experience. I got the letter on my email account confirming the date and time, but nothing else as far as what we will be doing for 2 days. If I get some info i'll let you know! See you next week!

I had the opportunity to attend the Applicant Day last February, so I'll share a little bit of my experience. On Friday, it's pretty much informational day where they had powerpoint presentations on academic honesty and the BSPS/PharmD program, Q&A session with current students, a session where we had to take a test (you can't really study for it, so don't stress out), and another session where we had to fill out our extracurricular activities/work experience (so bring a resume with you to make this process easier when you get there). This whole process will take from 9-5PM on Friday. By the end of Friday, they'll give you a card with your interview time slot for the next day (anytime from 8-12PM). If you're from out-of-state, they normally try to place you at the earlier time slots.

Saturday is the real day, but don't stress out too much because the interview only lasted up to 20 minutes with a faculty member and a pharmacy student. After that, you get to mingle with other interviewees at the couch while waiting to be called into the Associate Dean's office to discuss about your chance of getting accepted to the program based on your transcripts, extracurricular activities, PCAT score, etc. and whatever questions you may have that you want to have them answered.

Although Friday was quite a long day, all of your questions will get answered before the interview day. The staff took care of us very well that weekend and everyone was friendly.

can you tell me how long after applicant day you received notification of being accepted or declined ? also, how were you notified? phone, email, etc.

i appreciate your information-

i appreciate your information-

I heard back sometimes around the first week of April, whether you got placed on the alternate list or accepted into the program. I received a letter via email saying that I got waitlisted. I called them to give me my ranking on the list, and I received my acceptance letter about a week later since I was #1 on that list. I forgot the exact number, but I thought they had about 30 people on the alternate list at that time. What I thought was weird was that they didn't require us to place a deposit, but it's all good.

Hey guys, I posted some interview feedback for Ole Miss. I didn't get in because I didn't have all the prereqs I needed. But I loved the school. If you have applied this year and have the appropriate GPA, PCAT and prereqs, you have a 99% chance of admissions this year. The applicant pool was VERY low this year (I think there are only about 80 just interviewing and the class size is 110) So it won't be a full class which is a great opportunity for one on one attention from professors. Like I said, I'm pretty bummed I didn't get in, but good luck to the rest of you!

Hey Moni,

What prereqs did you need to get in? Don't you have the summer to take them if needed? Did they mention what is the average GPA/PCAT of people accepted? I'm glad you like the campus.

Thanks.

My buddy is graduating from Ole Miss SoP this year and all he talks about is how hot the girls on campus are

The prereqs they wanted me to have were only for Ole Miss. I think they were Genetics, biochem, physiology, and something else, it's on the website somewhere. Originally, they wanted to have all the prereqs done by May, but because of the special circumstances this year, I think they were going to let you have them done by summer. There would have been no way for me to take all those over the summer and do good in them (plus I go to a community college and they don't offer those courses, which the dean had to mention which kind of sucked) Idk the averages, but like I said, if you have their MINIMUM 40 on PCAT and 3's on the writing and 2.75 GPA, you're in...if you took all the prereqs or are planning to =/

Hey guys,

I'm applying to Ole Miss next year for Pharmacy school and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their opinion about the school. I'm a bit anxious about moving to Oxford since it's an incredibly small town. IIRC, Memphis is 90 minutes away. (I was on campus for a football game in 2000, so I'm not sure if the town has changed much since then.) Any feedback that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I went to Ole Miss on Applicant Day, and I really like the school. The campus is beautiful in a very small town as you already know. The whole town seems to be on one long street (University Avenue). The school has problem-based learning, where's there's more group work rather than lectures during the later years. For the 3rd and 4th year, you have to move to Jackson to do your rotation -- so that's a bit of a bummer. However, your intern hours accumulate while you're in school, which is great! They have on campus housing as well.

Weatherwise - they have a lot of rain, but rarely any snow. I prefer rain than snow anyday!

Just be warned that they do have more pre-reqs requirements than some schools.

From what I've heard, Ole Miss will be joining Pharmcas next year.

Hope that helps a bit!

I just got accepted to Ole Miss & will be moving from Dallas, so I understand your worry. I loved the school, their staff is great & extremely helpful. It seemed to me like they were all part of a big family and i really enjoyed that. Everyone in town was so friendly. In my opinion, I think Ole Miss offers so much compared to other schools and their tuition is fairly cheap, even out of state! I just like the fact that I was treated like they cared & were interested in helping me, not just a number. Good luck!:luck:

Hey guys,

I have a strange question and I'm hoping that I can get some kind of feedback.

I have been in contact with the Admissions office regarding for applying to Ole Miss for the Fall of 2011. However, after sending the SOP my transcripts and my PCAT scores (I listed Ole Miss on my PCAT recipient sheet), I received an e-mail from the Dean of the Pharmacy school stating that they wanted to set up a meeting/phone interview in a few weeks. I'm definitely excited, but I was wondering how you guys would regard this. I'm not sure if this is commonplace for perspective applicants or if I should view this as something more significant. If those who applied to Ole Miss have any feedback about this, it would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,
I think this is good for you. Do you have most of their prerequisites already done? Dr Wilson (Dean) is probably going to discuss the chances of you getting in this year if you meet the requirements. He is super nice and tries to help students as much as possible. The class has not been filled for this year, so he's probably trying to work something out with qualifying applicants. I would take advantage of it since it is rumored that they will be part of Pharmcas next application cycle and that means competing with about 800 other applicants! So if you're missing some classes I encourage you to try to get them done in the summer!

Hey! I have almost all of my pre-reqs finished, although I may have a class or two that I'll have to tackle this summer since Ole Miss has a few requirements that are different than most pharmacy schools. How did your meeting with Dr Wilson go? Any advice that you (or anyone else in this thread) would be able to share? :xf:
