Amen!! I was actually really pissed off when I saw this and disgusted that people think this is funny! I'm a URM also and you wouldn't believe the struggles we face DAILY...and you really think we're taking away your med school interviews? If that were the case I and many other URMs would be in med school today. Its just as a hard, and it makes it harder that we have to prove how qualified we are daily!!

You know, if you're really a URM you should know that even AFTER med school and you doing your residency you're going to get people thinking either you're a janitor, nurse, or other "non-doctor" professions. So, either you learn how to handle that now or you can get pissed at every single moment that happens and look like an idiot doing it. I've been mistaken for a waiter just cause "I happen to wear the same shirt as them" before and even though I got pissed at that time looking back I kinda find it humorous. People are ******ed and the world is filled by them so chill out and when things happen laugh at it and feel good that you're a doctor and they're not.

You know, I've never gotten this. What, exactly, is there to be proud about being a URM? Did you chose to be or continue being a URM or something? Now before anyone goes full ******, it is very possible to not be proud of something AND not be ashamed of it as well, especially when it comes to a trait that you have no control over.
He's going for the world record of most interview invites in one application cycle. Looking good so far. No rejections.

I'm not being facetious, but if you don't mind, could you please list them?
I don't know about other people on this board, but I think that everyone should have to prove themselves by getting good grades and showing a good understanding of the material, not by skin color.
Seriously though, I'm genuinely interested in what "struggles" URMs face on a daily basis that replaces academic achievement and allows them to get into medical schools with lower stats.
Here is my arm chair sociological interpretation of this situation. All minorities face greater challenges than those who are in the majority. When we, Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Gays, Bisexuals or whatever say we're "proud" we are not proud of our inherent qualities. We are proud that we have overcome the inherent disadvantages of being a minority in a anglo/christian/heterosexual/male controlled society.

The theory is that not everyone had the "privileged upbringing" that us white folk had....therefore they were not as prepared for college as us "privileged white folk," thus getting poorer grades in college as a result of their upbringing wayyyyy before college.
As someone that actually DID have to bust my ass workwise/academically to get into med school after I did poorly in undergrad I dont get it either.....but what can ya do?

White people don't have to feel pride, they already have the power and control of our society. But seriously though, have you ever heard of in groups and out groups? Do you ever wonder why you might feel differently around brown people as apposed to white people? It's pretty simple really, most people from an early age base their in group on what race they are. Have you ever read nurture shock or Colorblind. They might do you some good.
Is the experience of Obama's daughts similar in anyway to the experience of other URMs?
I am an M1 now and I actually got an interview there last year but bailed because I had gotten into my school already.

I know this wasnt even aimed at me but....My in crowd is whoever I like hangin with...white black whatever. I dont feel at all different around people of color...in fact I almost feel like I have to act super tolerant as opposed to "superior."
