Anyone know of a univeristy of college that offers online physics? Thanks,
Dustin

this is just a suggestion, but you may want to check out ccconline.org ..one of my friends took online gen chem.. she had to buy a small lab kit for the lab portion.. she completed the class in one month.. on the transcript it didnt say it was an online class and the credit was granted from some accredited institution in colorodo.. it transferred just fine.. med schools didn’t bring it up and she got accepted to a top 50 medical school..

i took an online bio class.. but i had to go in for two days to complete all the labs and i had to take all the exams on the schools campus..

check local community colleges, universities, state colleges. A lot of courses can be taken online nowadays so I don't think you should have any problem finding a physics course. I have taken biology (with lab) and econ online

Thanks guys, I have been looking without much luck. I did find one community college in New York, but I am not sure if it meets the physics requirements of a medical school. I have taken about 25 online classes, including A & P, and none of them are listed as online, all of them are just listed as campus classes. Thanks again, if anyone has a specific university or college for me to check, that would be very, very helpful.

I don't know how medical schools view this, but if I were on an admissions committee, I wouldn't give much credence to a course conducted entirely online. First of all, if you're taking the exams online, how do they know you're the one taking them, and how do they know you're friend who's a physics Ph.D. student isn't sitting next to you helping you?

I took physics at an Ivy League university, and my physics class was damn tough. I can't imagine that admissions committees evaluate a grade from an online course in the same way that they evaluate a grade from a reputable institution of higher education.

Whats the differance between your Ivy League University physics and someone who took it at a community college?

Most physics classes are graded on a curve. I was in competition with people who got into my university, which is an amazingly talented group of students. I'd venture to say that the students who got C-'s in my physics class could have easily gotten A's at a community college.

Also, you have to consider the difference in the level of the material being presented. In my class, a concept was presented once, and you either got it or your didn't. We covered the entire textbook whereas my friends at good state schools (like Michigan) only covered parts. I can't imagine that the course at a community college would have covered as much as we did.

You say, "Whats the differance between your Ivy League University physics and someone who took it at a community college?"

Not to be pedantic, you should have spelled "What's" and "difference" correctly, but much more importantly, you ask what is the difference between my "Ivy League University physics" and "someone who took it at a community college." Well, my "Ivy League University physics" was a college course whereas "someone who took it at a community college" is a human being. That's a big difference. Just as taking English at an Ivy teaches you to avoid such logical errors, taking physics at an Ivy presents similar advantages.

I hope this doesn't sound too bitchy. I just wanted to use your post to illustrate my point.

Best,
Paul

Of course, if the person taking physics at a CC throws up 12 PS his knowledge base is pretty much vindicated.

Woof. Woof. We are all very impressed.

I LOVE it when you bark at me! (If they had a smiley face for erections, I'd insert it here.) 😀

we are talking about online classes that do not explicitly state that the class was taken online.. medical schools have no way of knowing the course was taken online and 90% of them would never scrutinize one or two courses if the rest of your package is quality anyways.

I'd school Dubya in an academic decathlon.

Sorry for not using correct grammar and spelling. It is always nice to have someone such as yourself point out the insignificant little errors in a persons post. Should I rephrase my question Alex.

Answer - What is very little? Correct; the difference between Ivy League Universities physics class and Community College Physics class.

I could give a **** what you think buddy, unless your on my states medical school admissions board, but from your post before, your obviously not on any admissions board, so no worries here. For some of us, who have other priorities, it’s not possible to just stop life and go to college. It must have been nice to be able to afford going to college, let alone an Ivy School. Too bad for me, my father was killed in the line of duty, serving the country. Too bad for me I had to work through high school to help my mom out. Too bad for me I couldn’t afford college and didn’t have a huge family income to support me. Too bad for me I had to work full time to support me self through college to get to the point that I am at now. Buddy, I have worked as a paramedic for 5 years, managed to fit in enough college classes to officially certify me as a senior. I only need Physics and Organic Chemistry to complete my medical school prerequisites. I am sure it is very impressive that you took physics at an Ivy League school, and it may be rather unimpressive that I took it from a Community College, but it is also pretty impressive that I was able to work full time as a medic and still earn a 3.8 gpa.

Try Illinois Institute of Technology at http://www.iit-online.iit.edu/internet/
Not sure how many physics classes they offer.

Hey Doc2B, have you taken classes here?

Dhageremtp,

I know lots of folks who have taken classes at ccconline and they all love it. You have to pick a "home college", one of the cc's in the Colorado network. Of course, they are all regionally accredited. Many of them picked Pueblo. They say the staff at Pueblo got back to them quickly. You transcript will come from your "home college" and it never say it was an online class. If you choose to disclose that info, well that is up to you. Poor working folks gotta do what poor working folks gotta do!!!

Throw in some upper level science classes at a good University and you will probably do great.....

I am going to take one or two classes through ccconline myself. I am also looking at edukan.org. Where have you take online classes?

Good fortune with your education

Agape

Won't the adcoms know that the classes were online if you took them through the Univ of Colorado and you live in say California? Just a thought.

Most all of my online classes came from Minot State University here in North Dakota. I have taken a couple of other classes from other Universities in North Dakota as well. The state also has a list of all of the online classes at

Thanks for the info! Which classes did you take? Did the staff respond quickly to questions/inquires?

Information Processing, Principles of Microeconomic, Humanities,Western Civilization I, Elements of Accounting I & II, Fundamentals of Management, Negotiations, Spreadsheet Applications, Principles of Macroeconomics, Human Resource Management, Safety Management, Organizational Behavior Prin & Practices, Stress Management, Applied Statistics, Introduction to Philosophy, Marketing, Business Communication, Health Care Regulatory Enviroment, Production Management, and A & P I & II. All of them have been great, some Instructors are quicker than others, but overall it has been great.

I've been browsing through the North Dakota website and it is really helpful. One question , do you have to go in to take tests, arrange a proctor, or are they online?

Agape....

All depends on which classes you take and how the instructor choses to do things. I would say that over half of the classes I have taken required me to have a proctor and take the tests on paper, submit them via snail mail.

i know cornell offers some of their pre-med course work online (i know they have offered intro bio), but im pretty sure its only for full time matriculated students, in effort to decrease the thousand students in the lecture hall.

and from what i've heard, neuroDO, they're pretty freakin hard classes . . . 😎

How about instead of being a bottle of Summer's Eve, you just simply answer the man's question? Either Ivy League schools excel at putting out graduates that only learned to say "I went to an Ivy League schools!" or you knew damn well what he meant.
