Still no news from OISE anyone?
This is getting ridiculous...they dont answer emails and I've left phone messages.
Same here! I even e-mailed my POIs for an update and nothing....... aahh 😡
Side note: did anyone else find the personal statement requirements for OISE ridiculously long compared to other schools? Most schools cut me off at 2 pages; admissions office for OISE told me 1200 words... in 12 pt font, that turned out to be 3 pages for me. Maybe that's what's taking so long?🙄

UGGHH and dont get me started on the application fee - easily 3 times as much as other schools. Seriously?
Anyone have any info on the York Clinical-Developmental program? Reputation, etc?
Hi everyone,
I had an interview with York adult clinical (MA program) about two weeks ago. My POI said that we would be hearing back within two weeks ... so I'm pretty fraught with anxiety, and I haven't heard anything yet (it's almost the end of the business day here... so I'm getting frustrated).
I'm now starting to think that I was mistaken in thinking that I'd hear back from my POI, regardless (whether I got in or not). Can anyone please, please PM me their POI if they either a) had an interview at York, and/or b) got accepted?
Thank you! I just feel like I should have heard back by now 🙁

I don't know all that much about the process at York, or if this will make any difference to you but I only received my interview invite on March 5th. I declined it because I've already accepted elsewhere, bit this makes me think that if they make decisions as a faculty (which they may or may not do) then you might be waiting a bit longer because they've obviously still conducting interviews. That said, I do know someone who already received an acceptance to the Adult Program, thought I don't know who the name of their POI.
That probably wasn't very helpful, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Best of luck!

AGREED. And then the application asks you to indicate your "top 3 alternate program choices" - is that supposed to justify the exorbitant fee? OISE doesn't really offer any comparable alternatives to the SCCP program...
Also, this is completely biased and I'm sure not everyone had this problem (just venting😀), but I applied to 2 programs at UofT (SCCP and MSW), and somehow they mixed up my references, and one of my MSW references showed up for the SCCP application. By the time I noticed, and contacted the OISE admissions office to re-send the reference request to the appropriate individual, it was about 2 weeks out from the app deadline. After they finally fixed it for me, they told me that they would absolutely, under no circumstances, tolerate any more changes to my online application 😱😕 ...It was their mistake to begin with!
Also, I've received an acceptance at University of Windsor's Child Clinical program. Anyone have any info on this program's reputation?
Thanks 🙂
Thanks 🙂

still haven't heard from oise, but i did receive an official acceptance to the uoft phd psych program. so, looks like uoft is finally making decisions hopefully oise will follow.
I heard elsewhere on the net that someone in Toronto received acceptance for OISE SCCP on the 11th. I'll keep hoping until the actual rejection notification, but I guess we'll all know pretty soon!

No interviews? Or they received an invite for an interview?
The poster said she received an "official acceptance", so I don't think it was offer of an interview. I was under the impression that SCCP admission doesn't require an interview.
Can't wait to get home so I can check the mail!!

I'm pretty sure OISE SCCP does interview.... still haven't heard from them so I'm quite positive its a no. Anyone here actually heard back??
Pickme- where did you read this?

This person received official admission:

Since it's been more than a week, I think it means a rejection for the rest of us....
OISE SCCP doesn't mention an interview in their admissions criteria or their FAQ, so I assumed they didn't do one. If I'm wrong, I guess rejection is even more likely :|

Yeah, I haven't heard from OISE either. Now that I think about it, I think I remember hearing somewhere previously (maybe in an email from my POI?) that they do not conduct interviews prior to distributing acceptances.
That said, I would want to visit a campus/program (even informally) before I accept an offer, so if they are accepting people and just haven't let them know yet, they aren't leaving us much time to organize a visit! 😕

Also, I've been wondering about how the SCCP compares to other child clinical programs:
Is the OISE SCCP fundamentally different from a Clinical PhD program in terms of the employment opportunities you would be considered for after graduation? For example, I get the feeling that if, during your training, you got tired of working with solely with children, graduating from the SCCP program probably wouldn't allow you to switch to working with families, or adults, since the it sounds like the material is geared towards working with children in an educational setting.
On the other hand, if you graduated from a Clinical-Developmental program (i.e. York), would this allow you more flexibility in employment after graduation?
This is probably something I would ask at an interview or open house but it doesn't sound like they are having one...🙂

I applied for adult clinical at York and still haven't heard anything. I emailed the admin 1.5 weeks ago to ask about my status. They said if I hadn't received a rejection or acceptance yet (my case), then I'm still being considered. Unless there's my rejection letter lost in the mail, then they are REALLY taking their time!

Hey everyone...
I received a phone call today from a prof at York (for the adult Clinical psych program) for an interview. I declined because I have already accepted an offer from another school, however, for what it's worth I think there is still hope for anyone who hasn't heard.
Of course it's always best to prepare for the worst but keep your heads up because u never know... u may still hear.
Best of luck to all!

Is anyone in the position where they are deciding between more then one school? Any suggestions for clinical programs in Ontario? I have applied to some child programs and some adult programs.
CanPsychGirl, have you heard anything from OISE yet? I haven't heard a thing yet.
Good luck to everyone!

Aaaaah just got my rejection (snail mail) today - Mar 29 2010 🙁 I had applied only to the SCCP program.
Has anyone heard about the U of Windsor Child Clinical Programs? I hear it is one of the best.. thoughts?
I'm also wondering this... anyone have any thoughts?
yep Got rejected from OISE today for both their SCCP and their MA counselling psych program, and I was waitlisted at UWO's M.ED counselling program...I'm probably off to Carleton, for a MA in general psych
Can someone who got in to the OISE SCCP or counselling program please tell me what they did?! I have plenty of reseach and what I believed were really good grades, what do people have to do to get in?!😕

One of the students in the lab I work in was accepted to the SCCP program at OISE last year. I know she had great grades (an A average), and had some really solid research experience in 3 or so labs. Perhaps most importantly, I believe she was an RA for the prof that ultimately accepted her as a student. I know she had a stellar rec letter from our lab as well. Unfortunately, grades are uber important at OISE because they don't require the GRE. If you don't meet the A- cut off your application is not considered further.
Canadian schools still haven't heard from: UBC and Ryerson. I know it's probably a rejection, but man these guys are taking their time!
wow... still waiting here. paid $100 for each of these schools.
I also just received a rejection through snail mail. I have no idea why, my undergrad GPA is 3.78 (A-) from a top school in Canada and I have an MA in developmental psych from another top school in Canada with a grad GPA of 4.0. I have 3 years of solid research experience and 1 year of volunteer clinical experience at a hospital in Toronto. I also know my ref letters were very strong. I applied to the MA in SCCP (so I was willing to do another two years of MA!). I think my qualifications are better than most undergrads applying. So... what's the matter? Personally, I think this whole process is extremely subjective and biased. It ultimately comes down to 1 prof who decides amongst students and who certainly has his/her own biases. It is much tougher to get in if you don't have any connections (ie. you didn't RA in one of the profs' labs). Who cares if you're an excellent candidate (maybe even better than others who were accepted) when this process is far from fair and objective.
Anyways those are just my thoughts....

same!!
On a lighter note - I received an acceptance for U of T Social Work today!
Did they notify you by email or snail mail? Feels good to know I'm not the only one who applied to clinical and to social work programs - I was soooooo worried that I wouldn't get into a clinical program, and I thought I was the only one 😉
Hey!
U of T website says decision pending for both... don't even bother going by the sites, it only says decision made when they finally move their bums to change it.
I hear ya about Social Work...
I am currently on waitlist at York at my fingers (and every other part) is crossed...
So far, no acceptances anywhere else.

yeah the OISE clin. psy. programs are by far the most competitive i've seen. it's ridiculously biased for sure... the counseling one isn't that bad.

Yeah my average is a solid A (85%), my undergrad thesis is being published, I've been to numerous conferences and Ive been a RA in 2 labs... and I volunteer at a crisis hotline... I knew it all was competitive but I have no idea what more I could do to get in.
- I'm going to attend Carelton and get my MA then try to get into counselling in a year and a half..though apparently that isn't even a guarantee!
- it does all seem extremely biased!🙁

has anyone formally accepted any place/program yet?
I accepted at Queen's, and declined offers from Waterloo, UVic and York (Adult).
CanadaPsych - great work! Did you accept in adult or child and what research will you be doing?
I have accepted at York
Yes, please canadapsych, if you're comfortable doing so, would you mind sharing what type of research you will be doing?
I've been waitlisted at York Clinical-Dev, and accepted at Windsor 🙂 Haven't accepted any offers yet.
August2008 - did you interview for York Clinical Dev?
Has anyone heard good news from OISE Counselling Psych?
On a lighter note - I received an acceptance for U of T Social Work today!
Congrats on your acceptance!
No, I did not interview at York.

Well that's what I did thinking that after 2 years of MA in general psych (cognitive actually) I would have a heads up compared to undergrads applying. It gave me 2 extra years of research experience and showed I can do well in a grad program. Apparently it gave me no advantage.
^ it's not though. I applied to 5 schools in the U.S.... nothing. It costs more for them to take an international student, so you'd have to top all the U.S. applicants first. Plus a lot of people applying there have M.A.'s already.
I should have applied to York.
Still nothing from those schools, it's really frustrating. I think I'm going to resort to emailing them now.
