What are some good books for ortho at the MS3/MS4 level? So far, Tablet PC has been told the following.

Tarascon Pocket Orthopaedica

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...t_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance

Netter's Concise Orthopaedic Anatomy (Netter Clinical Science)

http://www.amazon.com/Netters-Concise-Orthopaedic-Anatomy-Clinical/dp/1416059873/ref=dp_ob_title_bk

Handbook of Fractures (PDA version is available on skyscape though)

http://www.amazon.com/Handbook-Frac...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1257117977&sr=1-1

Some other ortho MS4s recommended surgery recall (already have from gen surg rotation). Is there a good book for general ortho reading, like Case Files or Blue Prints?

Are you sure you have posted on the correct forum?

You don't need a whole book. The ortho chapter in Lawrence's Surgical Specialties is pretty complete for clerkship/senior rotations. There's also a Orthopedic Secrets but it isn't as well-written as Lawrence. The Blueprints isn't that great either.

This one ^.

Also Koval's Handbook of Fractures. Depends on your school I guess. At my home school, you could do really well by knowing anatomy, so Netter's was awesome.

At my away rotation, I got Koval's because it was recommended by everyone. It was helpful for fracture classification. I also had Salter's textbook... easy to read. I had the first edition, and my dad bought me the newer edition, the pictures are basically the same.

If you are going in to orthopaedics and plan on doing several ortho electives during 4th year, I would suggest atleast:

- Netters Concise Atlas of Ortho Anatomy
- Handbook of Fractures

If you have a littel extra cash, I really enjoy ,and found it very useful to have.

- Hoppenfeld's Surgical Exposures

alot of the pocket-sized books are pretty worthless, but atleast they are cheap.

Pocket guide to musculoskeletal diagnosis by Cooper is good, and there is a .pdf version circulating online. Great stuff.
