I would say go read Robbins and know it by heart. Robbins is a GREAT book and an easy read. If you don't know Robbins, there's no reason to even think about Osler. You will be the ultimate badass if you knew that book cold before residency.

Bwahahahaha
Best line I've heard all day

So your still in Med school or finishing? The question is like a Pre med sophmore in college asking you if he should go to USMLE step 3 review course. Do it when the time is right.

Don't go now. The course is at a level higher than yours at this time.

If you like to have a smooth start for the residency, do the following:

- Start reading Robbins...review the histology picture of diseases.
- Go over an atlas in general hisopathology or basic histology..to refresh your background in histology.
-Grossing (or specimens sampling) is usually the most stressing part for residents just begin the program. You might need to join your program as an observer 2-3 weeks before the official start (July 1) and stay in the grossing room to see how specimens are grossed. You can go over some books in surgical pathology dissection but not necessary now.
- However, clearing Step 3 is a very interesting idea...
Step 3 of the USMLE is usually taken in the 2nd year of the residency or beyond. This is because the exam is designed for those who are on the floor and in the hospital wards an dthus more familiar with the practice system and high chance of passing the exam..........it is titally the opposite for pathology....your chance of failing the exam increaes with doing pathology residency. Join Kaplan and start reviewing Step 3 material and sit for it in June. Register with the States that allows taking the exam without PGY. Good luck.

Would be a mistake to take Osler before residency. Osler assumes some general path knowledge particularly of terminology. Taking it well before your boards would not be a terrible idea. I personally would not take it too early, but I know others prefer that option because it helps guide their studying throughout the rest of their residency.

I'm actually in high school
