This may be a dumb question. I'm studying for the mcat right now and a random thought came into my head. I have an idea about what the differences are but can someone clarify to me what the difference between osteopathic (DOs) vs. allopathic (MDs) is?

Hey! My family used to own a Geo Prism. That car was a decent, only in the fact it got nearly 40mpg in the city. Otherwise it was literally a sheet metal box with an tiny engine and wheels.

I don't think IQ is maternally inherited per se, otherwise I'd be screwed.

However, a lot of mental ******ation disorders (or syndromes that are assoc. w/ mental ******ation) are on the X-Chromosome.

The Ross grad I interacted with while shadowing seemed a little dense. And I later found out he was doing surgical research for a year because he failed to match into a residency. I wasn't surprised.

Medical education throughout the world is not standardized. I doubt the caliber of Caribbean med students is up to par with DO students.


But in all actuality, I would prefer a doctor without an accent to one with an accent. It would just be easier to communicate.

I don't know anything about French med schools, so I can't really comment.

I will say when I was in Paris some of the locals were not particularly nice. But that may be because the only French I know is: "parlez-vous anglais?"

As long as you treat the abundance of immigrant patients you'll see in your medical career with the utmost respect. I like Americans too, but also love people of all countries. So many unique cultures!

I do think the accent thing is a bit overrated. It's not THAT hard to understand people if you are patient.

Not to offend anyone (I saw this because I am about to be really offensive), but being from Texas, I will probably go to school in state and the abundance of exclusive Spanish speakers is somewhat offensive.

For example, if I moved to France and expected to make a life there, I would learn French.

Same thing for if I moved to Spain or wherever. I don't understand why people willingly come to America and then not learn english. And then we have to provide every thing in another language to accommodate them. There are parts of Texas where every sign, billboard and document are in Spanish. That is absurd.

It seems disrespectful to move to another country (sometimes illegally) and then make no effort to learn the native language.

Get used to it in med school, and swallow all of your thoughts. I assume you might know some Spanish being in a place where there are plenty of Spanish speakers. It'll help you out in the wards, especially if you are on a team where noone is fluent.

Then, you can be fortunate to go off to a place for residency where there are only English speakers and those who dare to speak another language get insta-deported! North Dakota is quite nice.

I studied Spanish for three years and I am planning on brushing up on it during my gap year and taking medical spanish.

I am doing so because will just be easier to learn it, then to constantly have to get an interpreter. And I would hate to make a mistake or miss something because of language barriers.

Nonetheless, on principle I still feel that Spanish speakers should be obligated to learn English. I don't see how you can be a full participant in America without knowing English.

It only limits their own economic prospects to not know the primary language of this country.

Nah, I'm just from an area (Boston) with a lot of MDs. I have no idea about DOs and want to learn.

If anyone ever coherently explained the MD/DO difference on youtube, it might go viral.
