We know why captain obvious is going to DO school, I suppose.
Lieutenant obvious actually...I'm not smart enough to be a captain.

This may be a dumb question. I'm studying for the mcat right now and a random thought came into my head. I have an idea about what the differences are but can someone clarify to me what the difference between osteopathic (DOs) vs. allopathic (MDs) is?
Thanks
Well, I've learned that about 15% of patients/general public know the difference between medical school and nursing school. So I will happily wear those scarlet letters.
Those FMG's where the same scarlet letters dont they? Oh, they dont. 🙂
^I don't think medicine is a right fit for you; clearly you're not that intelligent. I don't care what your MCAT score says.
Actually I was thinking more along the lines of a fully loaded Tesla Model S vs. a Geo Prism.
DO all the way, esp if you can get in!
MDs don't take into account the whole person, and the patient visit is less personable. This combined with them eating poop hotdogs make them less attractive to women. DOs also get to feel up their patients using OMM. In short, DOs get laid more than MDs.
'Tis been a revolving theme throughout this thread.you missed my point!
The two girls I know matriculating at a DO school this fall are both extremely attractive. 9+/10. And they're going to be roommates.
...should have gone DO. Or to vet school.
srs
Still stuck on "bone doctor"
You don't belong in medicine.
On another note.....do you guys think scientology and OMM are a match made in heaven? I sure do!!
DOs like Charlie Sheen up in this bitch.
Its OK, they're from/going to THE ohio state in THE Ohio... THE state with THE most astronauts. Something about it makes people want to leave THE planet earth. Why do people from OSU emphasize THE all of the time?
Reminds me of when I posted in the allo forum in a thread about IQ and maternal inheritance. A DO student comes out of the woodwork to flame me for no reason, and in the process revealing massive inferiority complex:
I still get a laugh out of it
What would they transplant? Feelings?

In the form of an accent, yes.
Ew, I wouldn't want to go to a foreign doctor.
I would much prefer an American DO over a Foreign MD.
I sense a racist.
I hope you mean just mean foreign trained MDs.
What's racist about that comment? Its more xenophobic than anything else.
Medical education throughout the world is not standardized. I doubt the caliber of Caribbean med students is up to par with DO students.
But in all actuality, I would prefer a doctor without an accent to one with an accent. It would just be easier to communicate.
Don't know how this went unquoted, but well done sir 10/10.

Also not all foreign trained mds are carrib. I could have gone to med school in France and that had to be better than carrib no?

Honestly, I've never met anyone who admitted to be xenophobic 😱

I don't see anything wrong with being xenophobic. I like Americans.
As long as you treat the abundance of immigrant patients you'll see in your medical career with the utmost respect. I like Americans too, but also love people of all countries. So many unique cultures!
I do think the accent thing is a bit overrated. It's not THAT hard to understand people if you are patient.
Not to offend anyone (I saw this because I am about to be really offensive), but being from Texas, I will probably go to school in state and the abundance of exclusive Spanish speakers is somewhat offensive.
For example, if I moved to France and expected to make a life there, I would learn French.
Same thing for if I moved to Spain or wherever. I don't understand why people willingly come to America and then not learn english. And then we have to provide every thing in another language to accommodate them. There are parts of Texas where every sign, billboard and document are in Spanish. That is absurd.
It seems disrespectful to move to another country (sometimes illegally) and then make no effort to learn the native language.
While shadowing, I encounted people who lived in the United States for TWENTY YEARS and still did not learn english. I mean, come on?
Let the flame war begin (that has nothing to do with the main topic in this thread).![]()

The DO v MD trolling got boring, so I wanted to enliven the thread about bit.

Get used to it in med school, and swallow all of your thoughts. I assume you might know some Spanish being in a place where there are plenty of Spanish speakers. It'll help you out in the wards, especially if you are on a team where noone is fluent.
Then, you can be fortunate to go off to a place for residency where there are only English speakers and those who dare to speak another language get insta-deported! North Dakota is quite nice.
This is off topic...I know 🙁
Yeah I mean, our ancestors learned the languages of the Native Americans they ravaged and stole land from. Wait...

Depends, do you have a sexy French accent? If not, then no.
DOs learn everything an MD learns plus we get additional training in OMM ultimately making us superior people and physicians.
remember those students giving cooty shots in pre-school? prime candidates for ***** ass allopathic schools.

Even after reading the entire DO handbook, I still don't understand that line. What does a DO take into consideration that all MDs don't?
spoken like a true symptom-lovin' biotch.
