Hey guys, wanted to remind you to vote in the senatorial primaries today.
I would recommend Tom Coburn, as he is definitely better at money mgmt than most politicians, is a physician, and seems to have character.

Laterz.

Fenrezz,
Where in Fl were you? I graduated from Cape Coral.....

I grew up in the Ft. Lauderdale/Boca Area. I'm just finishing up a rotation with the guy who wrote my LOR.

Well I'll make sure to sit next to you when we play. I always like being close to my money. :meanie: :meanie: :meanie:

Hell if this weekly thing becomes consistent, I'll buy one of those Hold 'em tables like they have in the casinos. They're perfect for sitting 10 or 11 people, and made for mini-tournaments. 👍

hey, for all of you that live in westport, can you give me a rough idea of what utilities run? Im making a budget right now 🙁

Yeah, I was getting concerned the last few days. Been hearing that Humphreys was making up a lot of ground, plus the fact that I feared that the population of OKC would help him overtake Coburn.....

.....and then.....

With 80% of precincts reporting, it's Coburn leading over Humphreys by 60-25%.

The one disheartening note is that numbers indicate that the dems have turned out in almost TRIPLE the amount of the reps for the primary. My main hope is that a large number of republicans skipped the primary, feeling that their candidate would win easily, and that they'll all be back in November.

interesting, boomer...I haven't seen the returns yet as the TV is on Fox News. I was very turned off by Humphreys, myself, which motivated me to go out & put in my Coburn vote.

Every race listed......a little more up to date now.

I was EXTREMELY put off by Humphreys and Anthony with their attack ads. That's generally a sign of a campaign that has little substance (see, the democrats/Kerry ads against Bush).

They started charging for water starting this August. So I'm not sure how much this will run. Victoria told me to expect around $10-15/month.

Electricity is highly variable depending on how much you run your heat and air conditioning. When I keep my air on 70 during the summer my bills usually run around $80-90/month. During the winter, it's more like $40-50/month.

I have basic cable (15 channels) with high speed internet. That runs $52/month.

I don't have a cell phone yet so I use SBC local telephone. That runs about $23/month not including long distance phone calls.

I pay $23/month for renter's insurance through Stacy Johnson at Farmers.

Are you and KD having a party at your new place when you get back?

If we do we'll have to do it the weekend after I get back. Soon as I get back to Oklahoma, I'm going straight to my Norman rotation. I'll talk to Kevin and we'll set something up.

Are you on core now, by the way? I thought I heard that you were.

IM elective at TRMC. Basically a warm-up for CORE. I start Psych on Monday.

Howdy, howdy.

While I was driving to Tulsa on Monday, I phoned in a request to 92.5 KOMA (I wanted to hear Jim Croce, but Rapid Roy must have been a little too obscure to play...). Talking with Jeff Cook, I discovered that there are a lot of hurdles you have clear on the road to and through medical school.

Luckily, all of us have passed the first one:

Me: Hey, Mr. Cook ... this is Jeremy. I was wondering if I could request the song Rapid Roy the Stock Car Boy by Jim Croce?
Jeff: Let me see if I have that ... you know, I have a cousin named Jeremy.
Me: Oh, really? Yeah, they're all good guys.
Jeff: Yeah, he was going to go to medical school, but something stopped him.
Me: Aw, man ... what stopped him?
Jeff: Ninth grade.

So, to all of us who passed the first hurdle! Let's keep it up!

Adios for now.

I just heard - 100% passing for the MS III's. CONGRATULATIONS  We are so proud of you. We hope to follow in most of you guys' footsteps 🙂 .

xray, are you ever going to quit work? My last day at work was 7/9. Just got done with Organic chem finals. Leaving for San Antonio tomorrow, so will be out of touch for a week. Then will leave for Kansas City for a weekend. Busy cramming last minute vacations before school starts.

drdad, how did your mission trip go?

katz, did you win against the MS II's and III's - you show 'em 😛

best, have you gone motorcycle riding yet around town?

see you all in 2 weeks

Yeah, I quit my job a couple of weeks ago, and it's kinda sad that I will never drive an ambulance again.

I had a temporary summer mentor emailed me a couple of times, but my real mentor just gave me a call a few minutes ago. You should all be hearing from them within the next few days

Nah, you'll finish first year just as sane as when you began....whatever that is. 😉

Hey All!!

Sorry I vanished for a while - just trying to enjoy every last bit of my summer. I did hear from my mentor yesterday. She seems pretty cool. You guys should be hearing from your's soon, and if not I know the school has been mailing out letters with the mentor's contact info and hometown.

How is everyone spending their last few days of freedom?

Catch ya later.

For the record, i hate moving. Ive made 11 moves in the last 5 years. #$#$#!!
Im still not completely set up at my apt either. Boo for unpacking and setting up too 👎

Less get our orientating on!

If you haven't already, you should go check out OSUCOM's website. They've updated the schedule for orientation week, so we can now all know what sort of trouble we're going to be getting into.

How about that BLS pre-test? I'm a big fan of answer "C" for question 8...
I'm with Kwooder - let's open those flood gates!

The best part is that you have a decent chance of making a 100% on your first med school exam!!! 😉

Hey MSIIs or IIIs, how big of a bag will we need for the MSI book load? What kind of bag works best?

Does anyone know what day we are supposed to bring our microscopes to orientation?

The microscopes will probably be needed on Thursday. That is when they have Histology Lab Orientation. I hope thats right anyway.

Can we substitute that for the grade on the first Histology exam?

lol... Meek wouldn't go for that 😉

Depends on whether or not you'll be studying at school. A backpack or one that you can wheel around is good. I studied mostly at school & kept a big plastic storage box in my car with my books. That way I didn't have to carry them all around but they were easy for me to get to. 🙂

Hey, anyone know if the grand piano in the school is off limits? Ive played on it a few times and no one has said anything yet. But i dont want to get chastised when the "right" person sees me doing it.

Does anyone have a pic of Dr. Meek grining, that would answer all questions like this, unfortunately it is hard not to like the man though,

You can play it. A couple of my classmates played it rather regularly & it never was a problem. They mostly did it at night or on weekends, though, but a few times during the day when all of the important people are around. 🙂

I'll see all of you MS-1's in the morning. Let the fun begin...

bagels and coffee for breakfast? gimme a break

hehe. I hope you like pizza.

They could have saved money and had OJ instead of expensive coffee or at least cups for water.

Oh yeah and whats the deal with only having ranch dressing at every meal? Is that an Oklahoma thing?

I'm gonna start bringing a bottle of salad dressing and a "sippy cup"

just wait until thanksgiving when they bring out the squirrel and dumplings and 'possum casserole :scared:

um..... yummy

BTW.... I AM BACK!

MS1 is cool so far

I saw some of you today...are you all as bored as I was just being there for about 10 minutes? I thought so...I was ready to cut my own throat by Thursday of orientation week. Ugh...

I'd like to encourage all of you to go to the ACOFP luau at Dr Stower's house on Sunday. It's a good time with lots of food and drink. It's just a nice, casual time to hang out with each other. If you have kiddos, the Stowers have a pool & they let the kiddos swim.

So, go...eat...drink...talk...and relax 😀

Dr Stower's wife told me I have to come, so you get to be graced by my presence, too 😉

NO TV NO INTERNET MAKE NICK GO CRAZY!!

Argh. I mistakenly set up my cable hook up apt for this saturday instead of last saturday. Oh this poor little rich kid. Whoa is me.

OSUdoc08 said:
Are we talking iced tea and coca-cola drink or are we talking drink drink----I know you said all the kids will be there.

The reason I ask is because this will directly affect whether I go there or go to a poker tournament.

there is drink-drink...and the regular kiddo stuff, too. you will be well taken care of there 🙂

Why is it that when I tell people that I'm starting medical school that they ask what I'm going to major in?

Are you kidding me?

I always wondered what people most often majored in at law school too.

Well, when I tell someone I'm in med school I often get "oh, so you're going to be a nurse" +pissed+

I've gotten the major thing, too. I think they don't realize that you don't specialize until you graduate.

When people i dont know ask me what im doing, i just tell them im going into healthcare. Dont bother with the med school/doctor bit.

Of course, as a DO we will have to constantly explain that we are real doctors. As a family doc you still have to explain to people that you arent a general practitioner when they ask. Eh, oh well.

I'm not going to have cable---I'm paying out of state tuition.

Of course, I didn't even have a TV when I was a freshman in college, thing it would help my grades.......It didn't.

I usually have the TV just for noise. Or the food network, because it helps my culinary skills. Truth is, I could live without it, but I am an internet *****.

Just wanted to wish everyone good luck and congratulations! I hope to be there in a couple of years.
