LOL, an Altima, racing?

That's funny 😱

I lost my huge discounts when I didn't re-enlist. Active Duty SMs get the best rates. I get a small discount still, though. The car is so expensive to insure, my agent tells me because it's rare among other things.
Oh ya... going 80 in a 45 😛

nah jk ... i'm not stupid enough to get my license taken away when i JUST got it hahaha

oooooh so when you don't re-enlist you get the boot eh? pshh that's our govt. for ya.

The rarer the car, the more expensive to insure?

Smart girl. Particularly when it'd also cost you your intern license and thus your pharmacy license almost assuredly.

Pretty much. Makes sense, though. Why should I be entitled to privileges that service members get if I am no longer a service member?

The rarer the car, the more expensive to insure?

Absolutely, because I need to have insurance that says they won't just total my 1 of 500 Mustang if it loses a front bumper or something stupid. Cash value for the car, expectedly, is horrible (Since cars are [bnot[/b] investment material, by and large), and while getting $7,800 in cash for a normal 2008 GT would be OK, it would not be OK for a California Special, particularly one with Roush accouterments (Making it even more rare of the rare breed).

other things go into it, too... for example, the normal V8 produces 320/320 hp/torque, whereas mine is hopped up to 500/430 hp/torque, and a whole host of suspension modifications, etc. It all adds up to one expensive damn car to insure.

Plus, who wants to explain their "reckless" behavior to a committee when they have "crime/charge free" competitive applicants as it is...

How long did you serve for? When I was younger I was thinking of signing up for the Air Force because I thought traveling the world would be fun, but the more I looked into things (such as the 8 yr service commitment) and how junky the GI Bill was I quickly ran so far from that option it wasn't even funny. I don't think you service men receive enough credit or benefits for all you truly do.

I know how that is... my mom totalled her car last year (hit and run 5 car pile up) that wasn't her fault and dealing w/ that insurance junk was crazy.... insurance companies are scams. I couldn't imagine driving your car since it's 1/500...I'd be scared having to worry about some idiot side swiping and ruining it.

I know nothing about torque or hp... but it sure sounds fast. What's the max speed of it? 200 MPH? hahaha vroom vroom

How does your wife feel about you driving that beast?

I thought SHC's car was a mercedes.

I wish, I drive a 6 years old Lexus! 🙁 Maybe AFTER graduation I can get a benz...AFTER I get my 80K in student debt paid off. God, I will be an old fart by then...🙄

When I had to have a glucose tolerance test, they took 7 vials from me each a half an hour apart. The last time, they had a hard time getting a good vein and stuck me an additional five times with one chick trying to go for the vein in my forearm, not the usual place. It was HORRIBLE.

Plus, who wants to explain their "reckless" behavior to a committee when they have "crime/charge free" competitive applicants as it is...

Yeah... although a clever person will spin it into a "Well, I learned my lesson and this changed my life" kind of event. I guess I ca
n see it not being a sure-fire way of ruining your life... but pretty close.

From 2004 (right after I walked across the stage @ UCD actually, LOL) until 2008. My contract was ready to be inked for re-enlistment (Nice bonus, plus choice of station, etc) and I just could not stomach going back to the middle east for a third time. I had to say enough's enough.

There are a lot of benefits to service beyond things that are qualitatively definable, but I agree that some things are lacking, but I think that's almost how it has to be. As sad as it is, the Army needs people to re-enlist, and it needs people to feel like they need the Army. Having a dizzying array of "Get out of the Army and do X" advertisements would be bad for the business.

Unfortunately, when I bought the car, I thought we'd have at least one other daily driver (My wife's Tiburon) but she wanted to sell it a few months ago (Since she hasn't had a need to drive in several months, being in Davis and all) so... the CS turned into a daily driver. Oh well, a car's a car?

I know nothing about torque or hp... but it sure sounds fast. What's the max speed of it? 200 MPH? hahaha vroom vroom

The aerodynamic limit for that model of Mustang is somewhere shy of 200... It takes a very, very streamlined car to make it to 200. I did "hot lapping" at Laguna Seca and on a straight-away got her to 163 mph before I had to break. I imagine she'd top out somewhere at 170.

But the real gem of the speed, and the one I use regularly, is 10-70 mph, getting onto the freeway. Merging onto a fast-moving I-5 is so easy in that car. Whenever I drive someone else's car, like my mom's Prius for example, I feel like I'm accelerating so slowly.

As a point of reference for you, next time you're getting onto the freeway, time your 0-60. After 4.3 seconds, make a note of the time you're at - I'm already at 60.

How does your wife feel about you driving that beast?

She loves fast driving and power... I haven't met a woman yet who hasn't muttered at least a slight "ooooh" when I hit the gas for the first time in 1st gear. 430 ft-lbs of torque, in comparison to say, an average Honda, is about 4 times as much (If not more).

Ever been on a rollercoaster like Top Gun?

Before:
phox.jpg

Just my kind of pho noodles and pho juice (no sauces or anything yet)

After:
pho2.jpg

I added fish sauce, oyster sauce (dark brown stuff) and the spicy pho sauce (red stuff). It's BARELY spicy enough with that much spicy pho sauce.

You can't really see fish sauce in your pho bowl so I took a picture of the bottle, kind of. xD
fishsauce.jpg

I was in a hurry so I didn't have time to rinse and cut green onions, cilantro, bean sprouts, and basil. I also didn't have time to cook pho meat or chicken. I forgot to put some fried garlic and friend onions into my bowl before I ate it. 🙂 If I had time my bowl would have looked better.

The red stuff reminds me of the Salmonella typhi animation we watched in Micro 😱
If it was, I'd have one interesting immune system. 🙂 So would the rest of my family.

As for the camera, the pictures were taken on my HTC Touch Pro, a refurbished version. I found out later today that it had echos so I'm calling Sprint tomorrow to request a brand no one. The next phone will be the 4th HTC Touch Pro they've sent me. =P 3.2 Mega Pixel camera with auto-focus. It wasn't auto-focusing when I was taking the pictures. Probably because I forgot to activate auto-focus to shift by default.

Regardless, that is actually how it looks in pho. It's red and it comes out of the bottle looking like that. Now that I look, THOSE pictures are really clear.

I've never had Pho... looks kind of like ramen?
It does look kind of like ramen but ramen is a Japanese dish (that, as most people might know, originated in China) and pho is Vietnamese.

The noodles in pho are straight and flat. There are different widths for different peoples' tastes. I like mine as thin as in the pictures. On the other hand, ramen noodles are wavy and have a round base (or cylinder-like base).

Weirder stuff has happened!

Obviously it isn't Salmonella typhi. I'm pretty sure the bacillus-looking things are my imagination + bad camera lens. 🙂

Oh, I almost forgot that there is a cover to the back of my phone that covers the camera and flash light with a clear plastic. It's probably that. It's at the back of the phone where your index finger and middle finger hold the phone. It's probably my finger prints making things look not at as clear as SOME people want pictures to be. =P

I faint when I see someone else's blood in a large amount. 😛 I'm fine if it's someone's cut or nose bleed though.

I feel sick in the stomach and get goosebumps even with a few drops of blood...YUCK!!! :barf:
I am the only 25 year old I know that is scared to donate blood! You will think only 5 year olds would be worry about stuff like that! 😳

What if you mess up while giving vaccinations? You might end up with a few drops of blood

We're still waiting to hear about your vacation/pharmacy school meet up 😛

lol I only went to Detroit to visit that friend. It was a lot of fun. The city itself isn't anything special, but I met a lot of really cool people and made some great friendships.

I know your thinking it must have been awkward, but we had been talking a lot prior to meeting and we are both not awkward and very outgoing so it felt very natural and I felt very comfortable! I am totally glad I went!

I agree. It's so funny when people who race get into a crash. Especially when it's street racing. The only sad thing is that I can't be there to rub it into their face when the police come. 🙄 No sarcasm intended.

Well, it wouldn't be so nice to laugh at them if they were close to dying or got seriously injured. If that ever happened to me and anyone who knew me laughed at me about it, I would probably not talk to him/her for several months or years.

Also, if it was a serious accident, you probably couldn't make yourself laugh if you saw it from your car and not on a video.

Nice? Oh, like how they were "nice" to us by speeding on the highway? Yeah, I'm totally going to show them kindness even though they contributed to putting me into harms way for their own gain. Totally.

No, you treat others how you want to be treated. Especially on the road.

I laugh because the person who sped through cars on the highway put the rest of us at risk. I find it befitting to laugh at their misfortune when they get into an accident. They deserve much more but I can't be bothered to do more while still abiding by the laws as a US citizen. It's too much of a hassle and their existence isn't as important anyways for that effort. I would only laugh at the person who sped, not the people who got dragged involuntarily into a crash (if it was a two or more car accident).

Their selfishness deserves such treatment 🙂. If you can't be bothered to wake up or leave earlier for work, school, or an appointment then that's too bad. But because some people can't be assed to do such things, they, instead, put us all at more risk than we already are at. I believe that is called being selfish.

Now if you're running late because of just plain bad luck, I won't hold it against you if you don't get into a crash while you speed to your destination. 🙂

Probably couldn't laugh? Lol, you don't know that. What's probable is that I can't help myself but laugh when I know or learn the circumstances of the crash and why she/he was speeding.

After I found out I was queasy around blood, I donated blood anyways at my high school. Granted I still fainted near the end of my donation, I was fine 2 minutes after I regained consciousness. 🙂 I plan to give blood whenever I can on my spare time in the near future.

Most people don't do that when they're selfish :meanie: They expect everyone else to yield and block them off as long as it's not illegal.

Some people who speed through cars can see what's coming ahead and are willing to take the risk and be prepared. I said only some, so keep that in mind  just kidding. But really, a lot of them are very alert when they're going slightly faster than other cars, and they're going to use the side of the highway or the road that is more vacant.

I'm sure people are willing to take the risk of getting into an accident over being late.

But one thing I do, is that I'll take the back roads and avoid traffic, so I won't have to be driving too fast.

Yield and block off [the speeding people]? That's a contradicting statement. They expect that? Are you even aware that it's expected of people to obey laws? Speeding is illegal. 🙂 Are you trying to say speeding is legal?

🙂 That is why it is more than fair to take pleasure in such "peoples'" misfortune. Serves them right. And I couldn't give a **** if you "wouldn't talk to me" if I knew you. Lmao, I don't care if I knew the person or not. Knowing a person or not does not bar them from the deserved treatment. That is what is called being fair, if you weren't aware. A pharmacist lacking the ability to be fair to each patient, well, 🙂 I don't need to say more. 😀

Right, just because these "people" are more "alert" and "prepared" gives them every single right to put the rest of us at risk? That's some logic you got there, if it can even be called that. But on Earth we call that being selfish. Not sure where you're driving.

I'm sure people are willing to take the risk of getting into an accident over being late.
Did you even read my post? It would seem apparently you didn't. 🙂

First of all, I meant "speeding people" expect others to yield, and the "speeding people" block others off when they want to.

From the way I see it, if you get in the way of someone and you know they're going faster than you, you're putting yourself at an unnecessary risk when you can move out of the way. When you're far enough behind, your risk goes way down, unless there's a lot of traffic ahead.

Looks like you don't see for $hit. 🙂 :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

I have no idea what you're talking about there. I see the road and other cars very well when I'm driving. Now if you're talking about seeing slow drivers on the road, well I don't see them unless there are many of them

But really, I can always tell if cars in front of me are going faster than me or slower. And that's enough to keep a safe distance.

I remember you saying you have two degrees... did you do one at Stanford first and then one at UCD? Since you already graduated from college did the military send you straight to OCS?

I agree that accelerating is a lot more useful and fun than actually speeding. Since you can't legally speed, it makes merging on the highway so much better. Toll booths on the entrance ramp are the best... My car isn't that fast or anything but I can definitely tell the difference when driving a V4 versus a V6... I've only driven V8 (heavy) SUVs and trucks though.

I used to cheer for a gym in Miami called Top Gun All Stars.

There are signs every 5000 feet or so on the I-5 stating for slower traffic to yield to faster traffic and to get the heck out of the fast lane. But people can't/don't read and sit in the fast lane driving 60 anyways when everyone's going 80 around them. What's more dangerous? Driving under the speed limit in the "fast" lane when everyone in the 3 lanes closest to you are driving 20+ mph over your speed ... or sticking with the truck lane and taking it easy. Personally I drive in the truck lane 90% of the time because people purposely drive slow in the fast lane and cause all the other drivers to rage and change lanes a lot. In the end, the "slow" lane is empty for 40 miles while 'slow' people camp the fast lane. Trucks follow basic road rules, they'll move over if they see someone's coming up behind them and they have a free lane to the right ...

Let the speeders get pulled over for speeding in the fast lane. Follow basic traffic decency, put away your selfish pride, and get out of the way of faster drivers ... especially tailgaters. That's just asking for trouble for both you and the tailgater.

In many states there are laws put in place where highway patrols are legally not allowed to cite drivers for speeding if they're only 10 mph (varies by state) over the posted recommended speed limit. Trying to "police" the speed of other drivers by driving slower on purpose is putting yourself and the other drivers in danger as well as being rather rude in terms of road courtesy. So your argument for "following the speed limit" isn't illegal in terms of them ever being cited for a ticket. It's not recommended but they won't get arrested/ticketed for it (within reasonable speeds/driving habits).

Edit: in cali, I believe the buffer zone is +10% of the posted speed. Anything over that is a ticketable offense.

So true. In Florida you won't get pulled over for going 10 over even in the most strict jurisdictions. In Miami-Dade County you can sometimes go 15-20 over, and a lot of people do and blend in with the rest of traffic. On the Turnpike or I-75 it's not unusual to see a stream of traffic going 90 in a 70 mph zone. Radar detectors are also legal which encourages speeding... not saying it's a good thing, but that's just how it is. I heard that in some states you can get pulled over for passing on the right, but that is the lane most people use to pass here because slower drivers do tend to camp the left lanes.

I thought enlistments were 8 years? Are you in reserves now?

That's pretty fast!!!

hahahaha smoked.

how many other "women" do you drive in your car 😛? I bet it's a chick magnet. How long have you and your wife been married?

No but I've been on a ton of roller coasters so I know what you're talking about. Right when you take off you get pushed all the way back to the seat.

YAAA!!! MORE DETAILS. Not just that you went!

is she hot?

What elseeee did you do?

1. I was thinking the same thing.

2. I was waiting for someone to ask that... My bets were on Crazybob though... dang.

I think I asked doc before he went if she was hot too, but yet again he dodged it! He keeps dodging all our questions... something makes me think he sees her as "more than friends" but b/c she's a member of SDN he wont say anything!

LOL I love the speculation! She's not hot. I define someone hot as "hit it and quit it," material. She is definitely a beautiful girl. 👍

Damn that bob guy really can't see for $hit if he can't even understand THAT. 🙂 Oh well, no use in bothering with dead weight anyways.

Trucks follow basic road rules, they'll move over if they see someone's coming up behind them and they have a free lane to the right
That's nice. Off-topic when put into the context of "speeding puts the rest of us in danger on the highway". 🙂

Let the speeders get pulled over for speeding in the fast lane. Follow basic traffic decency, put away your selfish pride, and get out of the way of faster drivers ... especially tailgaters. That's just asking for trouble for both you and the tailgater.
Selfish pride? Let's see, pride, pride... I don't see any pride where I laugh at other people's misfortune on very SPECIFIC circumstances. Or the fact that of fair treatment is, well, only fair. Are you seeing things, perhaps?

In many states there are laws put in place where highway patrols are legally not allowed to cite drivers for speeding if they're only 10 mph (varies by state) over the posted recommended speed limit. Trying to "police" the speed of other drivers by driving slower on purpose is putting yourself and the other drivers in danger as well as being rather rude in terms of road courtesy.
Oh, just like how it's much more than rude to put the rest of us in more danger because of selfish reasons?

Also, where did I say anything about "driving slower on purpose" to slow speeders down? Please, enlighten me. Are you just putting that in to validate your point? If so, that's great, but off-topic and not directly related to my discussion.

So your argument for "following the speed limit" isn't illegal in terms of them ever being cited for a ticket. It's not recommended but they won't get arrested/ticketed for it (within reasonable speeds/driving habits).
When I say "to speed", I mean the illegal action, if you weren't aware. If they can't get a ticket then apparently they're not "speeding" now are they? My my, reading comprehension.

Because you burned your taste buds out years ago? 😛

Nope, because my tongue is constantly producing new taste buds. Besides, I never put anything so hot that it permanently damaged my tongue or taste buds so my taste buds are just fine. Some people, like moi, have a tolerance to spicy foods, unlike other people. 🙂 Or we just like the spiciness.

LOL I love the speculation! She's not hot. I define someone hot as "hit it and quit it," material. She is definitely a beautiful girl. 👍
what ethnicity is she? has doc found himself a thick latina mariah carey knock off (see i remember what you liked) 😛 ?

The truly sad part is I actually love the taste. But if I use more than a tiny amount of it on anything without smothering it with something else, I'm left with my tongue hanging out of my mouth and tears streaming down my face for 10-15 minutes. But if you cut it down, you don't actually taste it even if the spiciness is tolerable...

It is unfortunate.

It's not my fault you couldn't explain yourself well.

You only said that you didn't think I read your post because I didn't agree with you.

But it's sooooooooo rewarding. I truly felt worthwile and like I'm actually helping people when I was immunizing. It made me appreciate direct patient care more than I ever have. I even did the San Francisco city wide immunization clinic.

Really? I thought you were scared of it too? I remember reading about it in the pharmacy forum. Does it hurt when someone (that does not have experience) practice on you? 😱

Practice on oranges first. Once you overcome the fear of orange juice squirt you can move on to squishy humans
