out of state for texas schools

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Okaaaayy, so what happens if Mizzou offers you a hefty scholarship and the Roch doesn't?😀

Probably be quite surprised as I didn't apply to either school...oh you probably weren't talking to me were you...

So I got an email from Dr. Kellaway with a pretty heartfelt thank you for my letter I'd sent last week. Even if she was just being nice, it still made me feel kind of fuzzy inside 😛 That lady has got to be nicest dean of admissions I've ever met.

any ideas on how to withdraw from TX schools that i've been accepted to??? is a kind letter good enough???

Call, or email. Just make sure you mention dd and/or lacrosse haha. Where did you decide on, superstar?

Darkelven, get any waitlists?

I don't want sympathy recommendations 😡....oh who am I kidding of course I'll take it!

i'll totally recommend you. i hope ur sn is ur real name.

i plan on withdrawing from san antonio and a&m. if i choose to go to school in TX, it'll definitely be at UTMB.

i think my favorite school so far is Iowa, but it's a bit expensive and UTMB is much more reasonable...

haha you would choose the only school I applied to in TX. Heard anything from Mayo yet?

Okay so myKudu you might have sympathy for me on this one... so last night when I came home from teaching, I was like alright, I need to make this red velvet cake and my boyfriends favorite chocolate chip cookies for part of his present. I had to do it last night since I didn't have time today. I made the cake, put it in a little cake holder, and then made 15 cookies and I was letting them cool so I could put them in little bags. I put them next to the cake. This morning, I wake up at 4:45 am to go to work and I go downstairs... 2 cookies. One of my roommates gave some of them to my neighbors and one of my other roommates gave some to her boyfriend. I am currently rushing to make more... so mad.

I'm waiting on A&M so that's good 👍 San Antonio, I'm am no longer on speaking terms with 😡

What's with all these people baking cookies, buying candy, and presents...is there something going on that I don't know about 😕

I suggest prosecution to the full extent of the law. Cookie theft cannot be tolerated. Other suggestions...draw and quarter, thumb screws, lead pipe, burn at stake....for a girl.

If a guy, just make him watch a video of Rosie O'Donnell flopping around in a bikini on a Hi-Def TV.

No.

👍 😆

Hope you guys aren't trying to mislead me....😛

So I just got a job in this manager training thing with ATT. Through their interview they kept going over this "you have to want to move up in the company and be with us for a long time...." and basically I went along with it.

Honestly I didn't think I was that enthusiastic about it, but just a little while ago the guy called me back and was like, "can we count on you to be a team player and give a 100% for us?" So I was like, "Yeah of course, I'm in it for the long haul!" I really don't think I want the job, and now I sort of feel like a douche as I'd leave them at the drop of a hat if I get accepted to a school. The pay is descent and I"ll get benefits so I went ahead though. I guess I need to have something, especially if I don't get in anywhere this time around, still I feel bad for more or less lying to them.

You have no idea! When he said this, I wanted to look around for a camera to look into and frown awkwardly.

when employers have to resort to motivational speaking tactics, that just implies that the job is going to suck, but i hope it doesn't, for your sake.🙂

Thanks, I hope it doesn't suck either 😛

Though I guess that's the benefit of taking a job you don't really want to take to begin with. Worst case scenario I can quit 🙂

Haha…I had trouble finding a job last year before the match because understandably no one wanted to hire a guy that might not be there in a few months…especially for management, even though they liked me otherwise. I just couldn't lie, and frankly I'm not a good at it anyway. Hopefully this makes you feel a little better though…one of my int's was at ATT for selling cell phones. Part of the conversation went like this:

ATT Slimeball: So, would you have a problem doing things you didn't agree with?
Me: Umm….you mean like something unethical?
ATT Slimeball: Yeah, pretty much.
Me: Well, yes of course. I'm a grown man and I value my integrity.

He didn't give me much eye contact after that haha, and I didn't get the call.

You have no idea! When he said this, I wanted to look around for a camera to look into and frown awkwardly.

Just remember to put a cover sheet on your TPS reports...mmm'kay? Grrreeaaat...

It can be fun knowing you're at a job that doesn't really matter to you. Whenever you get into a situation you don't like, just randomly mention that in a few weeks you're going to be cutting up dead bodies. It pretty much kills any conversation.

Yeah, I got the memo about the TPS reports, I just forgot!! 😡

I'm still going to have to see how the ethics of the company works out. If I'm forced to swindle little old ladies I may have to think twice about the job, though it will be difficult to break my last record job of 1 day 😀

Hellooooooo! I'm super bored right now... I'm really hungry (I didn't eat lunch) and my boyfriend is taking forever to get his butt over here so we can go get sushi. Wonder what he got me... my roommates boyfriend was so cute, he called me to see if I was home so he could come put this huge thing of flowers in her room and then he put a bandana w/ hearts on it on her dog.

P.S. This red velvet cake I made looks quite amazing. And one of my neighbors who ate some of the cookies that weren't for them said they were pretty quality... so I guess at least they made someone happy 👍

Oh and also... I wanted to add this tidbit cause I think its funny. The Talk Sex lady, Sue Johansen (or however you spell it), on Oxygen is at my school tonight doing kind of like a live show sorta thing... it was sold out super quick.

Well sushi isn't going to fill you up, so you'll probably be ready for desert 😉 Your boyfriend should be happy about that

Ok, what did you get him besides the cake? Hey, can you do chessecakes? Haha, I'm asking like I don't already know the answer🙄.

I hate you. Just...stop.

Must be cheaper than the 900 #'s...

Who told you my valentine's plans?!

I'm with kudu, no more bragging about deserts unless they will be promptly provided by ups!

I made him more cookies, I got him his favorite chocolates (cadbury eggs and reeses hearts), I got him his favorite drink (those little Propel on-the-go things that he always carries around), and a picture frame w/ 2 pictures of us in it and I used my scrapbooking stuff to make it cute.

Of course I can do cheesecakes... I made a really good half cheesecake half pumpkin pie one back on thanksgiving.

Oh and sushi does fill you up... when all that rice expands... whew.

True that 👍 Have you ever heard that rumor about birds that fly around weddings and eat too much of the rice they throw explode! :wow:

So this new job isn't going to work out either  I'm not sure what's up, but I'm having some bad job karma out there or something...hopefully it just means I'll get into a med school this time around! You wouldn't believe these people, they're more or less training you how to be dishonest. I understand sales pitches and what not, but come on, I felt sleezy just listening to this guy go on about how they make sales. He talked about how if you have all the paper work filled out for a customer all you have to do is get their signature and you're good to go. There are all these other tactics and stuff that get pretty in depth. I'd ask them questions about various things and they'd either give me round about answers that didn't answer anything or just gave me distasteful looks. So back to the drawing board 👎

There are stories about boats breaking apart and sinking because of expanding rice. Don't fill your hull too full!

Good luck on the job hunt! I have a great job that I hate...so I understand fully!

I like that people from the TX thread read ours... makes me feel loved 😀

We were so full from the sushi, we couldn't even find room to eat the red velvet cake... but no worries, we'll make room for it tonight.

How has everyone's Friday been?

It's been fun to watch the relationship between you and kudu grow. You've got dd in there now, too, and it's just cute. 😍

Sometimes you guys have good info, too. The Baylor thread sometimes has good info, too, since there's a lot of overlap of information and people.

Yeah we have a weird threesome going on in here 😛

Fridays been ok, one of my friends had this yummy store bought german chocolate cake :barf:Made me realize how big a difference is between the homemade stuff.

So the a&m alternate list letter is in a deceptively large envelope. Had I not known it was coming I probably would have had a heart attack as I opened it. Basically it's a rejection letter, it even says that he hopes he'll see my application in summer for class of '13. They don't even provide postage for the envelope! 👎

Slow day...

I had to be at my lab at 10 this morning because the grad student I work w/ was going to help me start part of this new side-project that involves 3D plating of stem cells... I took these plates w/ 24 wells in them and added these little inserts where I gelled some 3D matrix stuff, then added cells about a week ago, and then today we were going to work on them. I get in there to find out that its pretty impossible to get the matrix out of the inserts... so I didn't need to come in. Sweet, grad student... thanks for the phone call.

Yeah we have a weird threesome going on in here 😛

I like how you said sometimes we have good information 😆

Yeah, tri-state threesome.

She said sometimes because most of the time it's me talking about Rochester, kudu making fun of Rochester, you talking about weird jobs, or a conversation about chocolate...

...You're right... we always have good info... what was she thinking?

Of course I can do cheesecakes... I made a really good half cheesecake half pumpkin pie one back on thanksgiving.

Oh yeah? Well, my Cup o' Noodles turns out great at least half the time…so there! Mmmm…pumpkin pie. How'd your turkey turn out….any other special accomplishments on TG?

I bet you take a shower as soon as you get home haha.

It's been fun to watch the relationship between you and kudu grow.

Uh oh. We better be careful 39 or by next week they'll have us pregnant with triplets, dropping out of school, and eloping to join a Marxist Bolivian rebel army.

I suppose they're trying to be practical, but that reapp part is just an awfully tacky thing to say. You know, I bet the Unabomber was a rejected premed.

She was probably joking…I'd bet accountants have a peculiar sense of humor😛. I humbly posit that all the info in this thread is worthy of canonization, especially considering the number of our secret agents who've perished while garnering it.

Well I was actually in Columbia for Thanksgiving break (football practice... ugh) and I made that pie for my coworkers. I also made them pumpkin cupcakes which were pretty quality. I did get to go home on Thanksgiving, but my aunt does all the cooking/baking... she's not related by blood, but somehow I get that quality from her.

Well... what I'm currently doing is trying to make a 3D model of an in vitro stem cell niche. We've already taken pictures of a model I made, and so now we have to do immunohistochemistry and RNA lysis on them. So, I made this plate that has inserts of 3D matrix I set up, and when the stem cells reach Day 8 of a neuralization process I put them through, I seed the cells into the matrix. Over the next 6 days, the single cells (or embryoid bodies) form aggregates and then form connections w/ one another which allows things like cell migration. So today, on Day 14, we were going to scoop the matrix w/ cells out of the inserts to perform IHC on them... but, we use a lower concentration of the matrix and it doesn't work too well for the IHC protocol. If it had worked, we would have scooped them out, fixed them in paraformaldehyde, and then washed them w/ something called PBS (just washes away excess liquid media) and treated them w/ Penecillin, Streptomycin, and Fungizone to keep bacteria out until we use them. So since we couldn't scoop, it's on to plan B.... smaller wells.

haha I know, I was being sarcastic... considering we pretty much hijacked this thread, it's pretty wonderful.

Wow, that might be the sexiest thing I've ever heard a woman say, especially considering that as a former econ major with philo and hist minors, the space shuttle just flew over my head with you in it:laugh:. You give me too much credit, but even so it is interesting...I'll figure it out. Just think what you could do in that swanky new BSL 4 lab that coincidentally opens just in time for your matriculation:meanie:.

Ok. So two guys are out playing golf. They notice a funeral motorcade passing by, and one man takes his hat off and places it against his heart. The other man, moved by this, says "I think thats the most compassionate thing I've ever seen you do." The guy turns to him..."Well, its the least I could do after 30 years of marriage."

I'm not quite sure, but something tells me my boyfriend wouldn't approve of that...

I'm sure he'll understand when he sees the antlers on kudu. 😉 I mean you just can't argue with the evolutionary selective advantage provided by the mates with the large horns 😛

I suppose they’re trying to be practical, but that reapp part is just an awfully tacky thing to say. You know, I bet the Unabomber was a rejected premed.

Yeah they're probably just priming us to get ready for us to fork out some more dough 👎

😆Kudu's antlers are quite impressive, unfortunately I only bat on one side of the plate. I was only looking at it from a purely scientific point of view.

Come on now what would the oos texas thread be without our great lacrosse fiend??? 🙂

Awww... 😳 (that's as close as I could come to a blush)

Besides, I don't think a m&m and a kudu could get along by themselves very long...someone would eat someone...:scared:

Sorry I had too much to drink earlier I may be being overly friendly, lol.

Not to mention she's the sdn equivalent of Rachael Ray:laugh:.

don't say that. Rachael Ray WAS cool until she totally sold out and went into merchandizing.

Yeah, not to mention she got kind of weird with her whole talk show and stuff...and I mean come on, what's the deal with the dunkin dough nut sutff??

that's what i'm talking about. she's a cook, not even a trained one. how is her opinion on anything relevant?

It's not, but I know most guys (including myself) would probably follow a girl who can cook even moderately well to the ends of the earth 😀

have you seen anthony bourdain's no reservations? now, that guy is cool.

haha well then thank you for standing up for me Jolie... oh and I haven't seen the US version of that movie, but I saw the one it was based on in one of my psych classes... (I think it was German, it was awhile ago) called Mostly Martha, I believe. Super movie even in a language I can't understand... possibly better that way.

Add in "can do laundry" and most guys have an eternal love match 🙄

Well I can do my own laundry, I think I'd have to find someone who could tolerate my sense of humor for more than five minutes 😛....and of course the cooking.
