International student applying to OVC for the first time. Would love to learn of fellow US-based applicants' experience with mailing that cheque to Ontario. Trying to find the cheapest and safest way to get the money to OVC.

Hi! I applied internationally last year and am currently a phase 1 student at OVC. I just sent my check in the regular mail and monitored my web advisor and it got there perfectly fine! Feel free to message me with any questions!

I received an international interview invite this morning at 9:30 EST!

Welcome to the party!! International interview invite. Glad I don't have to travel for it.

Has anyone else had their interview, or is anyone else interviewing tmrw, feeling nervous but excited🙂

Hi! I applied to a couple vet school this year and got accepted to SGU so far. I did get waitlisted at OVC (as an international student). I was wondering if anyone knew the statistics of getting off the waitlist there? Or if anyone knows how many people are typically waitlisted?
Thanks🙂

This has been merged into this thread based on it being about the OVC waitlist.

Hi! I am a current international student at OVC, the waitlist moves variable each year but the last a few years it has moved quite a bit. A friend of mine that’s in second year was initially denied after interview and then called in May and given acceptance because they went through the waitlist. Last year the waitlist started moving even before the April 15th deadline. I was initially waitlisted but found out in March I was accepted! Keep a close eye on your web advisor as my status there changed to accepted a few days before I got the acceptance email! Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck!

Does anyone know if there is a Facebook group or something like that I can join to begin to find other students accepted into the class of 2027? Now that I have been accepted I feel like I should start to find somewhere to live and I would like to find roommates, and connect with more people!

There is a group but you have to officially accept the offer before they can let you in. I was thinking the same thing!

Thank you! I’ve been checking almost daily😂

I’ll be touring OVC in a few weeks! Any suggestions of areas of town I should explore, for potential housing, restaurants (vegan would be a bonus), other area of campus, etc would be helpful!!

Once you accept your offer you get a big document with all the information on where to look for housing, the study permit process, etc. There is an OVC specific housing Facebook page as well as a Guelph university one that a lot of people post on looking for roommates. There are a lot of amazing restaurants here including ones that have great options for dietary restrictions. I don’t know any vegan specific but I’m sure you will find there are a lot of options. As an OVC student we have all the classes in the building you will see on the tour and have rarely been to any other parts of campus minus the bus loop and university center. There is an arboretum on campus that I’ve heard it awesome but I’m not sure how cold it will be when you come. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions!

How much is international tuition? I am looking at the Study Permit Information Sheet and it says $83,613 at the bottom of the page. I thought it was ~$76K based on this link, but maybe that is outdated.

That link is outdated, this link Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 Full-Time Tuition and Fees for International Undergraduate Students on the Guelph Campus | Student Financial Services is the updated one! But remember this is in CAD, so you have to convert it into USD to get a more accurate number. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Everyone who was accepted, can you send me your stats if you're comfortable sharing them? I am planning on applying to Guelph this cycle and am interested to see their averages. Thanks 🙂

I find it a bit absurd that they are no longer releasing the information...

Hi- if you're interest in stats such as my grades, and experience hours here is a summary of what I had on my application. I am happy to give you more detailed information if you message me! I am an international student though so I am not sure how helpful this is. I am from Western New York, there are several other international students that were accepted from my area of the U.S. (less than 2 hours away from OVC). I interviewed in early January and was accepted end of January.

Stats:
Overall Cumulative GPA 3.56
Overall Science GPA 3.49
>1000 hours community service & volunteer
~200 hours large animal experience with vet
>1000 hours small animal experience with vet
animal related employee experience (no vet) was >2000 hours total

Also had HUGE amount of extracurricular in HS and College (clubs, volunteer groups, NCAA athlete, etc)

Our class made a voluntary document of averages and casper quartiles for our purposes and to help future students applying. Only about half the class has input their information but I have attached a copy for you so you have somewhat of an idea for applying! If more people add their information I can post an updated copy! Good luck!

Hi everyone! I am a domestic applicant bur just wondering what sort of format they had this year for the interview? Is it a regular online interview or a MMI again? About how long was it for everyone?

Hi, does anyone know when we’re gonna hear about the interview invites? On the site it says late April and already almost May 😫

I believe its just a regular online interview about your experiences that you listed on the BIF. They removed the MMI and replaced it with casper from what I’ve been told.

Thanks for the information! Their website made it sound like a regular interview too but I wasn't fully sure.
