Hey y’all,

My school decided to go online for the rest of the semester because of the Coronavirus. They’re deciding right now whether to also switch to P/F grading, with the option of getting a letter grade. As I’ve already been accepted to dental school and paid a deposit, does anyone think it would be bad to do the P/F option? Is anyone in a similar situation?

I realize the best bet will be to reach out to my dental school but I want to wait until my school officially decides anything before contacting them. Just wanted to know what y’all think. Senioritis has hit hard so P/F would be huge lol.

Are the classes prereqs for the school you have your deposit down at or are they just classes for the completion of your degree? If the latter I'd say you're fine but def reach out when your school makes an official decision.

Make sure you check how the university registrar will communicate whatever the new policy is to the offices of admission. Usually you have to submit a final official transcript prior to matriculation, so as soon as you know, contact the registrar, then the admissions office so they won't be surprised.

They’re not prereqs or anything, just upper level chem classes to finish my major. I’m hoping they won’t care but I’ll definitely check in with them. Thanks for the responses!

Has anyone else’s school done this?

Definitely contact them now. Give them a heads up. Chances are it will be totally fine as it's really out of your control, but better to get that on writing now than to have it bite you a couple weeks before classes start when the dental school realizes it

Hey, I think I saw that you were going to Penn. I am too, and my college is probably also making all classes pass/fail. I was going to wait until they officially make the call (hopefully within the next few days) before giving Penn a heads up, but you're definitely not alone!

Great point, definitely do not want to have to deal with this down the line or risk any consequences. Planning on reaching out to them next week!

Yeah I’m going there too— glad I’m not the only one facing this. I’m guessing they’ll be pretty understanding, especially with multiple students are in the same boat. I’ll post an update once I talk to them!

I’ll be at Penn next year too. Let me know what they say!

I've been accepted and paid a deposit, as well. I was wondering if I can P/F a pre-req (biochem) . Anyone know?
