don't you think they should get accredited before they increase tuition!?! they should have to earn it!

Ok - I have been doing some checking on dates... If "G" notified Jon Erik on 2/28/07, but the waitlist was generated 2/15/07 - something doesn't fit. To be honest - I really trust "G" - Some of us on the Pacific thread have known each other for nearly a year -
What are your thoughts??? Should I question Kent about knowing a friend who declined her seat on Feb 28th - especially considering that no one appears to have received that seat from the waitlist - even after I was assurred there are no seats being removed for deferred students. Man - I just want them to be straight with us -
Moral of the story - I miss Vanessa...

Hey guys...
That is no typo Rach... The first Waitlist letter was sent out Mid February - and my letter was actually dated Feb 15th, 2007.
I think the staightforward approach is definitely the best Max... I am exploring the situation - posting out loud if you will.
Should I inquire about the method for rescinding a seat? I never really thought about a grace period existing for giving up one's seat - that may indeed be an issue for delay.
What irks me - is knowing about the seat being given up on the 28th - but a new letter - dated 15 days later shows no mention of the seat...
I think a tactful email to Kent, stating the issue about knowing someone giving up their seat, and politely inquiring about my position would be best.
Any other thoughts?

Here's a really helpful link to their FAQs:

But to answer the question directly...they accepted 68 for their first class (c/o 2009), then this year's class should have 84. The class you are applying to will have 96 seats. According to the info online, this will be the max going forward.
Ladies & Gents - for those of us on the Alt. List - I'm afraid I have some bad news.
After talking with Kent this morning - He explained to me the situation - it is as follows:
Currently - 89 students have active deposits with Pacific U. COP
- Active deposit means that the student is assumed to still have the intention of matriculating in the Fall (so this does not include Gssincom's deposit)
Per a conversation between ACPE reps and Pacific - Pacific U. cannot matriculate any more than 87 students this upcoming Fall.
Kent informed me that Pacific was willing to matriculate 87 (3 more than previously mentioned)
Furthermore - Pacific is unaware of the number of double deposited students - this is obvious due to the school not participating in PharmCAS
If school were to start tomorrow - Pacific would have to Rescind their Acceptance offer to (2) students.
I should point out that Kent was extremely kind and forthcoming. The process of accepting more students than are likely to matriculate is a common practice among professional schools. Typically the deposit / matriculation ratio is 2/3rds... Pacific thus far has had 90 %. This is both positive, and disheartening - all at the same time.
To sum it all up - you can add (2) spots to your waitlist # - because right now, there are 2 students whom are technically accepted, but in reality are not.

I know this probably isn't going to be an issue in August, but if school were to start today and they still had 89 students, how would they decide which 2 people to "kick out?"
My only guess is they would offer 2 students one year to defer and guarantee a spot in the next class. But that better not be me or else I would go crazy!
And this just shows you how competitive p-school admissions has gotten. Hang in there Seth. Wait list #1 is a great spot regardless.
what is more unethical a student depositing at two places or a school accepting more deposits that they have spots for?
I actually cancelled my spot at Pacific(2/28/07 w/ Jon-Erik) once I was accepted at USN(found out late Feb of acceptance and recieved official letter in early March). So I was never deposited at both schools.
In my opinion another part of the process that is a little screwy is that the school keeps my deposit ($1000) even though I"ll be attending elsewhere. They should at least refund some of it!😉
And on a closing note, ~above~ I know you'll still get in! I am though sorry that your wait is further prolonged!
it's similar to the practice of airlines overbooking seats; they want to be certain that all seats are filled, and are banking that some passengers will not be on the flight.
Not quite sure how similar it is really. Just a few weeks ago Skywest/United Express overbooked a flight I was on and all those that chose to give up their seats actually did so because they were promised a "free ticket" on a future flight. I'm not quite sure I can see Pacific offering the two students that defer a year a tuition free P1 year for their deferral agreement😉
I think OSU just notified the bulk of students regarding acceptances yesterday and today. I bet a bunch of students who prefer the MUCH lower tuition will begin to let Pacific know in the coming weeks. Hang in there!
I received a letter from Pacific U asking me to fill out background check paper, experiential placement form, etc. One of the sheet says that I need to have
:
"Pharmacy Technician Licensing in the State of oregon (Apply for your Oregon Technician License no later than 6/15/2007). Please note your technician license will expire and require renewal at the end of September 2007. regardless, you must have a technician license when you start school at the end of August. The website is: http://www.pharmacy.state.or.us/pharmacy/licensing.shtml#PHARMACY_TECHNICIANS"
I don't have any license yet. The next PTCB is not until June-August for the 08/27/07 test. The deadline to apply for the current test had already passed ! 😱
This letter was signed by the Interim Dean on 4/20/2007. The deadline for the current PTCB was 03/30/2007. This does NOT make any sense.

I feel like such an amateur - my question was already answered in this very same thread - just above these posts... how embarrassing!!!
haha - the waiting isn't really that bad. Last year, no one was accepted off of the wait list until June. The only record of it I could find was Shakeitfast and Itsabouttime. Shakeitfast was originally #23 - and was finally accepted June 30th. There is no record of who was first - or even in the initial top ten that I could find. Eventually - around July 31st Itsabouttime was accepted.
So it could happen soon - or maybe a lot later...
If I stay #1 on the list - but dont get in... I might go crazy... I am contemplating whether or not I should be preparing my application for next year...

that is too bad you aren't in yet but rest assured you'll get in the next few weeks/months so don't worry about next year!
on another note, have you Class of 2010 Pacific folks got your summer Ochem review assignment yet?
Hopefully not too much of it🙂 I do remember at the interview day at Pacific that we were told that a Pac professor would send out some important "ochem-to-review this summer" so that P1's would be best prepared for some of their first year classes.hmmm... are we supposed to know organic for Pharm school???
As for me, my biggest dillema is buying a laptop. Anyone else in the same situation?
I was THISSSS close to buying a IBM Thinkpad t60 for $700. However, the last minute, I bought a Macbook for $999. A bit pricier than expected but the Mac OS really got me. It's also the most dependable laptop on the market (up with IBM's).
Pharm47: Wow, you really are going to PU! Great to have you on board. 🙂
Above: Must commend you on your patience. I'm rooting for ya. Also, I would email Jon Erik later and ask about the possibility of reapplying. I'm sure there's a way to skip 50% of the application since you're practically in. Seems useless to redo everything.
Sorry i've been gone 4 a while but am back with good news to those who still want 2 go pacific. I will be declining my seat in pacific and head to USN(Vegas).
Good luck 2 those still waitlisted.
Congrats Tic Tac!!! Was USN your #1 choice??? Also, have you notified Pac U of your decision?
If not - that means I am back to #1 on the actual Alt. List... VERY NICE!!!
