Hello dear,
I rejoice with you. Accept my sincere congratulatory message. This is the best news of ones life time. Pacific is a place to be and you have just made the very best choice. Welcome onboard class of 2010!

Enjoy and go tell your friends, classmates and professors that you just got into the best pharmacy school ever. See you fall 2007.

Hi DannyPx,

You have no idea how much your words mean to me. I am so happy and excited. I know there are so many people who deserve this, and I will never take this opportunity for granted. I have been accepted to the best school ever!!!! Thanks again and I will see you in the fall!

I can't stop smiling! I just received a call from Vanessa... and I got accepted! I received the call about 5:30 Pacific time. I still keep pinching myself; I keep thinking I am dreaming. Anyway, I hope some of you are going to be hearing something soon.

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is awesome 😀 and hopefully many more to come...

Vanessa called me right before my Anatomy midterm! It made it so hard to concentrate. I am so excited and thankful.

You are just on the right way to acquiring great pharmacy education.
Congrats and well onboard class of 2010!

Congrats Pharm47! Was Pacific your first choice, or are you still hoping for another school? I am definitely going to be at Pacific. I haven't even applied anywhere else. Congrats again, and maybe I will see you in the fall.

And now it looks like the acceptances are rolling in...congrats to pharm47 and ammarha for getting accepted...all your hard work paid off after all...

Congrats everyone!

I didn't get a call =(

haha, it's ok, I'll just wait it out.

EDIT: Just found out Vanessa will be out of town starting tomorrow (Nov. 7th) until Nov 13th. Aww man, this doesn't look good for people who didn't get a call tonight. Seems like she would make all of her acceptance calls before she would leave for her business travels. Ok, now I'm officially sad.

And I could've sworn there were at least 4-5 people on this board who went to the 1st interview. Only 2 have responded so far??

Quick question for all of you that got an interview...Do you already have all your prereqs completed or are you currently enrolled or even enrolled for spring 07 for some of them?

Hey guys. Congrats on your acceptances!

I am curious. Anyone get an interview invite that has not finished Organic Chem I yet? I am currently taking it and feel it may be a reason why I haven't gotten an invite yet even though I have a Bachelors. Doh.

🙂 Congrats to everybody who made it, must feel good. Just wondering is vanessa one of the people that also does interviews?

Yes, Vanessa does carryout interview duties as well (a very busy lady). To Ipinjoy, I do believe having Org I under your belt is an important distinction - however, I honestly dont know the answer to your question. I have not completed Org II, but have completed Org I.

Pharm - I never had a doubt. Congrats Congrats Congrats. I know you are still looking at other schools too... but now you can finally be in a position to pick, rather than just pray. What a good day 🙂

Thanks Above and Amarrha. I am totally psyched about Pacific...it lets a huge weight off my shoulders knowing I'm going to school next year. I have applied to a few other programs. At this point Pacific and Oregon State are at the top of my list. For now I'm just thrilled about Pacific. If I do get into OSU, I'll have to make a tough decision...weigh finances vs. my husband's job vs. selling my house, etc. etc. I truly believe God has a plan for me, now I just have to listen to him to figure out what that plan is!!

not to be "that guy" but im wondering how competative the people who have been accepted so early were (reason you got early interview, acceptance), gpa etc

The reason for "early acceptance" was that we all applied fairly early in the cycle. Since Pacific has rolling admissions, the sooner your application is in, the more likely you are to be included in the first or second round of interviews.

Stats are important, of course, but I think once you get an interview, they look at you as a person. They wouldn't offer the interview if you weren't already qualified.

Congratulation to both of you. I'm waiting for my turn......

congrats to all who got in so far 🙂

Yes, GPA is important, but Pacific looks at the total package. They want a well rounded student who will be a good "fit" to their program. They look hard at your essays, your LOR's, personality during interview, and your pharmacy experience. I think that is what got me in the door. I had really good LOR's and have 5000 hours of pharmacy experience (retail and hospital). I just turned 30 a few days ago. It wasn't my GPA that sealed the deal... I have approx. 3.4-3.5 at this point. I am sure there were many students with much higher GPA's. I guess if there were any advice I would give, it would be to concentrate on writing colorful essay's, get pharmacy experience, make sure you have LOR's who really know you and will write a kick a** LOR. Getting pharmacy experience is really important if you really want to go to Pacific. It was very beneficial during my interview to have so much knowlege about hospital pharmacy and retail..... we talked about my experiences in both.

I think someone asked: I had both OChem classes done during the summer. The only classes I have left are Comm and A&P II. I hope this helps those with questions.

Just to add information, unlike Ammarha, I had close to the minimum required pharmacy experience. I had just 50 hours: all shadow/volunteer, none working. My gpa was one of my strengths (3.8-3.9), as well as my work experience in the business world. This just goes to show - they really are looking at very diverse candidates. Significant pharmacy experience can compliment a decent gpa, while a high gpa can compliment a lack of pharmacy experience. There is no "magic formula."

Argh, so I'm just keeping tabs on SDN folks.

So far:

-Ammarha and Pharm47 got the call.

-Myself, Sego, anfhockey, AND another anonymous non-poster is still waiting.

Hopefully today or tomorrow we'll hear something. I plan on calling the admissions office later today to check up on things. If anyone here wants to go first, be my guest. 😀 Either way, I'll update everyone here when I do that. Just kinda bummed Vanessa is away on a business trip until Friday, which can't be good. 🙁 BLAH!

How do you know she's out of town?

Don't know how Eddie knows, but she did tell me last night that she was leaving Tuesday for a business trip, and to direct any questions to her email.

I emailed Vanessa last night and I got an auto-response from her saying she will be out of town until Friday.

She does do a lot of recruiting for the school - After they sent out the first round of interview invites - she went on a recruiting trip as well. I would imagine that this is a good time for her to get away and get some other work done. We shall see what happens with the acceptances - I would imagine that they will only extend a few immediate acceptances - and hold off on some until the next round or maybe even through to the last round and the wait list.

I dont think she will be calling anyone else at least for a couple of days. Hang tight guys - your calls will come - If not in the next few days, it will come eventually.

hey ammarha congrats for getting in. Did you finish all your Pre-req? if not what else do you have left to take.

Well, I freaked out enough over this. I'm staying away from THIS specific thread until I hear back from Vanessa. If anyone else gets the magical phone call or new info, PM me 🙂

I just called Vicki Simmons (lead admissions lady) on the phone and she said they weren't done reviewing all the applicants from the 1st interview day yet. She said they plan on calling people sometime this week (or ASAP).

I mentioned how Vanessa was away until Friday and we were told we would hear in ~10 days (which is today). She said they're still working on everything. Yet some people already got accepted?? 😕

I didn't want to bring up the ppl who got the phone call already so I just told her thanks for the info. I am officially hibernating until Friday (or until Vanessa replies to my email). This thread is doing me no good, lol. That 10 day idea they gave us was the worse thing ever!

I'm hoping the adcom is busy STILL reviewing everyone this week. And since Vanessa was going away for a few days, they reviewed as much as they could, and then Vanessa called the ones who were accepted so far. Yes, I have quite an imagination. =)

*sigh* like my gf says "STOP STRESSING OUT! YOU HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THEM OFFICIALLY YET!"

I won't tell you not to worry because I know it is easier said than done. But look on the bright side..... it's not over yet. You haven't been rejected. Anything can really happen from here. Also, I think many people that were placed on the waitlist last year actually got in. Your chances are still as good as any. It's the waiting that sucks. It almost feels like your life is on hold. Hang in there.

Very true Pharm.... there is no magic formula. It is the sum of all the parts together.... and I remember Vanessa saying that life and work experience make a good candidate. Good luck on the rest of your interviews. I bet you are happy you didn't go the the football game after all. 😉

Hey Pharm... have you taken any Biochem yet?

hey ammarha congrats for getting in. Did you finish all your Pre-req? if not what else do you have left to take.

I have Anatomy and Phyiology II w/lab, and a communication course left.

I need to stay out of this thread, too.... and start working on other applications.

Yep. I took Biochem (4 sem. credits) and Advanced Biochem (2 sem. credits) in college.

You won't have to do the "Biochem Bootcamp" during the summer for sure! I haven't taken any Biochem at all. I asked Vanessa when she called last night if I should take a course next semester to prepare me for the curriculum. She said it is really up to me, but not necessary at all. I am not sure if I should skip it or take a course next semester.

How do you know she's out of town?

yea she's out of town, she's gonna speak with the members in the club i'm in at UCR. I hope to talk to her about the interviews when i see her.

What exactly is "Biochem Bootcamp"? I was under the impression that you only came back for the summer if you didn't pass some of the exams on the first and second try. Personally, I'm somewhat worried about my O-Chem background. I took it over the summer in 2002, and it's not exactly...fresh.

Yeah, I think that is exactly what it is. Vanessa mentioned during the info. session that some students would be going during the summer for it. I took both of my Ochems over the summer. I did well, but Ochem is one of those classes that is easy to forget if it's not fresh. I am sure it will be fine though. I am sure some stuff will come easy, and other stuff I will struggle with. I am going to try not to worry to much.

Yeah...I still need to finish A&P. I thought about auditing O-Chem this summer to "refresh," but that's probably not going to happen. With working full time (and hiding my application process from my company) and taking A&P, I'm pretty exhausted. Now that I'm accepted, it is going to be SO hard to finish the class!! I know I still have to do reasonably well, or Pacific could rescind their offer...but I highly doubt a B will raise any warning flags. I'm afraid if I'm not striving for that A, I might just get Cs!! That might cause some problems!

Yeah, I have thought of the same scenario. I don't think it will be a big deal if you do get a C. Vanessa told me on the phone that all I had to do was not fall below a C on the remaining prereq's and I would be good to go. The pressure is off... so try not to get too stressed during this last semester. We will have plenty of time to be stressed when we start next year! I am sure you will do well, though.

I hope this isn't too late, but super duper congrats, pharm47 & ammarha!!! 😀

WOw, congradulation to those who got accepted. Um...do you guys think it's too late for me to apply right now? I know the Dec 1 deadline is coming up. This is my first year trying to apply for pharmacy school, I am not very experienced. =(

Did anyone else get invited to "spirit Fridays"? I think I am going to go the day before the interviews. I am going to be in town early anyways, so might as well get an indepth look at the school I really want to attend. Anyone else coming?

It will be more competitive for the last seats no doubt - but If you like the school, and really want to go - I would say yes. Even if you dont get in this year, repeating your app next year shows a pattern of desire to attend Pacific. Just my opinion...

Never heard of it. Is it at the Hillsboro campus?

I dont think so - They said you attend classes - eat - and check out some spots on campus like the university center... How close is the Forest Grove campus? I would really like to go, but I am not to keen on criss crossing the great state of Oregon.

~above~

Forest Grove is not too much further than Hillsboro. Without mapping it, I'd estimate another 10-20 miles. In high school, Forest Grove was in our athletic conference, so I travelled there for games and meets often. Its probably an hour drive from Portland city center.

I've never been to the Forest Grove campus, but it could be cool to see what it's like. I vaguely remember something about a shuttle that runs between the Hillsboro and Forest Grove campus a couple of times a day, so maybe Pharmacy students have the opportunity to take classes and/or attend lectures at the "home" campus.

I have to call martha back today - so I will get more info and post. It seemed like i would be following one specific student around for the day...

A shuttle would be nice - because I am staying very close to the Hillsboro campus - ok, time for Latin - post again later

Thank you for the encouragement. That really helps. I will let you guys know what's going on =)

I'm hoping to hear back from pacific. that's my top choice school. since they haven't called back I'm nervous.
