I got Pacific University confused with University of Pacific. I thought about Pacific but it isn't accredited. University of Pacfic is fully accredited. If your saying the students are having a hard time they should but not too much because it will hurt the success of the program. I also don't want to get in a one hundread thousand dallor debt and not be able to repay it because I won't be eligable to work. Not the best business decision I'd rather guarentee my hard work to something sucessfull. 😍

No offense buddy, but do you understand the process to become accredited? No school can be "fully accredited" until they enroll and graduate their first class. Graduates have the exact same rights (and thus are eligible to work) upon graduating from a AACP candidate school. The fact that students are having a hard time means Pacific designed its curriculum right. If it wasn't hard, it would prepare them for NAPLEX.

As of 10/17...I got an invite to go to the 10/28 interview!!! 😀 Booked everything from flight to hotel to car for that weekend. Lemme tell ya...its pretty expensive just to go to an interview...but I guess its worth it because I have a chance of getting in...See ya all there..

Wow, they're still inviting people to go to the 1st round of interviews. Congrats!

congrat on your interview anfhockey10! It should be so exciting, good luck on it. By the way I was just curious to ask you how can you applied for ED and at the same time applied for more that one college through pharmcas, because as I though, when you apply through pharmcas for ED, you can only choose one school, just curious to know? In case if I wouldn’t get in this year, would know how to do it for next year.

Again good luck on your interview.🙂

CONGRATS anf!!!!

Ok - Sorry I have been MIA for the past week or so - 5 tests in 5 school days gets a bit rough. Throw in your one year anniversary for a long distance relationship - and you have no time for message board posting...

Hope everything is going well for you all, I do have a question for ya guys (and gals)...

I just got an email from Pacific saying they have received my completed application 😱 When in the great scheme of things did you all receive this email? Does this mean I am way off the power curve of application processing??? I am so frustrated by where I am sitting right now. Any and all information you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.

~above~ - congrats on being done with your five exams and on your one year anniversary.

I received that e-mail on October 4th which is the day after my packet (containing LORs and transcripts) arrived to Pacific. My completed online application was done September 29th. I have yet to get an interview although I did meet the Oct 1st postmarked deadline. congrats ANF!

later ya'll

Hey above, glad your back! So here are my dates:

Postmarked paper part of application (transcripts etc): 9/1
E-submitted online app: 9/4
Received completed application email: 9/15
Received interview invite email: 10/2

I don't think this means you are way behind at all. It took Pacific 11 days to send me the completed application email as well. My guess is they got a big rush of applications right around Oct 1, so that could explain the length of processing. For me, I figure my application was probably "difficult," as I attended 4 undergraduate colleges, and thus had a confusing array of transcripts and prerequisites.

Afn - when did you get the email confirming they had completed your application. My app was confirmed pretty quickly - but I didn't get the completed app email until late on the 16th.

Sure no problem:
Started: 11:09 PM, August 01, 2006 (PST)
Sent: 07:02 PM, September 19, 2006 (PST)
Confirmed: 07:56 AM, September 20, 2006 (PST)

Thats just confirming that they received my electronic application. Vicki Simmons sent me an email on the 29th of September saying that my application is now complete.

Its either that they had a spot open via cancellation or maybe they are still looking for interviewees. I'm gonna tell myself that its the latter part..😀
Right now its looking like i'm gonna have to spend a butt load on paying for the flight hotel and car rental everytime I go on an interview, I mean that is if I do get a second interview somewhere else 😀

congrats again ANF. I agree it is costly do go through this process especially when you have to scramble and get a flight and hotel with only 10 days notice.

I have a feeling you and I will be in the 2nd group as both of our applications were finally confirmed (by Vicki Simmons e-mail) after Oct 1st. It sure would be nice to know more🙂

Wouldn't it be nice if you found out you were accepted by mid-November, and didn't have to go to the rest of the interviews? That's what I'm really hoping for. With an acceptance in-hand, I would only attend future interviews if I was REALLY interested in that particular school. Here's hoping...

Gsinccom - I hope your right. I do know that the 2nd interview invites were sent out the monday following the 1st interview (like 1,2, or 3 days afterwards). I know for a fact that Pacific followed last year's pattern for the 1st interview day - so if that holds true for the second - we should be seeing invites go out around Oct 30th and the week that follows.

For those of you w/ interview invites - Pacific normally takes 10 days to send out acceptances. Unless you will be waitlisted - in which case we would be waiting ALL YEAR LONG 🙁

That's not really relavent for me right now though ---> Im still praying for an interview.

OK...So my boss just told me I HAVE to work Saturday the 28th. We have a Go-Live for a new system we're implementing (I'm a business consultant) set for Tuesday, and I "need" to come in over the weekend to prep the database. I don't know what to do. My company is very unaware that I'm pursuing further education in pharmacy. If they knew, I'm pretty sure my boss would just let me go, or make my life miserable for the next 6 months. There's no way I'm missing this interview though...I don't want to be a business consultant...I want to be a pharmacist. I don't know how to get out of this one.

Im very sorry to hear about your family emergency on the 28th Pharm... I know the database prep is a big thing, but family is more important...

I think you know what I am getting at here. I am a big supporter of honesty, but there are times when the truth will NOT set you free. It might hurt your a bit, but not nearly as much as telling your boss flat out your planning an exodus. Any other thoughts???

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't know what to do. I mean this is pretty important for the company and I'm sure they wont be able to take no for an answer. Good luck with it.

Well, I just emailed him telling that I have a conflict that I cannot reschedule, and didn't say any details. He responded with: "well I hope you enjoy that USC OSU football game, if that's your priority." I had planned to go to that game, before Pacific offered the interview. Anyway, I just wrote back "Unfortunately that is not the conflict; I'm missing the game also."

If they want to get pissed and fire me, oh well I guess. I need to work, but I could always get a pharm tech job. The pay would be less, but at least they would be understanding about work missed for interviews, etc. I'm not going to tell my boss any details, and just say its personal. If he pushes me for more, I'll make it clear that he is being intrusive. Either he'll leave it, or I'll lose my job.

Thanks for the support. Its so helpful having people going through the same things!!

The reason why I was able to apply to pacific U is because they do not work with pharmCAS. Pacific U is not through pharmCAS.

That was an excellent way of dealing with the situation - It was very professional, to the point - and I think it avoids any real confrontation. Way to show people how to handle conflicts Pharm.

Not to derail anything - but Ms. Simmons just wrote me back...

Hi Seth,
Your application is at committee for review. Vanessa was out recruiting
last week so things were slightly delayed. You should be hearing
something shortly.
Have a great day,
Vicki

:scared: 😱 Man I hope they like what they see... hearing something shortly would be awesome - It takes a long time to receive a rejection letter, but they normally send out interviews and acceptances pretty quick.

I dont normally ask for favors guys - but if you could send a few prayers my way, I promise to do the same for you - I could really use a little of the G- man's help right now...

Seth,

that does sound like you might still get in on the first round of interviews! Maybe I'll be the only one heading to the second one in November (I hope I get one!🙂)
Did you e-mail Vicki about your app status or did she send you that "you should be hearing something shortly" response out of the blue? That sounds great!

I wish she sent it out of the blue - but no, I sent her an email responding to the "application complete" email I received on Monday night. She responded very quickly, within an hour and a half of sending the email. I asked whether or not I had been reviewed, seeing how my app was turned in near on 20 days ago.

I dont think I will be called for the first interview date. I think some people might have rejected the interview (as strange as that sounds to us). Lets just keep our hopes up G - Ok - im gonna grab some food (late lunch)

holla at cha guys later

This is the timeline of my app process:

Started: 06:36 PM, August 16, 2006 (PST)

Confirmed: 08:05 AM, September 19, 2006 (PST)
I received the email from Vicki Simmons on the 19th as well confirming my completed application.

I think Pharm is correct.... I bet they had a whole lot of applicants coming in around the 1st and things began to fall behind some. But no worries yet! There still is time. Even if you get in for the 2nd interview you would still be sitting fine. Hang in there.

Does anyone know what they will be wearing or bringing to the interview?

Does anyone know what they will be wearing or bringing to the interview?

Definitely wearing a suit and tie to the interview. As for what to bring, probably information about the school and its program. Right? Is there anything else I'm missing?

Ummm... I have the code for Enterprise if you need it. I can get it REALLY cheap. It beats everything else especially if you are 25 year old or above. PM me if you want to get the code. The other day I got a cheap rent for $13/day for a compact. That was in summer. The cheapest I can get now is $26/day.

I'm gonna use the public transportation though.

I'm definitely not 25 years old yet. I think I have to pay an additional fee of 25/day on top of whatever it is if I'm under 25. Which blows.

Okay, then you need to use Enterprise. It has the lowest under 25 driver fee. It's 10 bucks/day. Others are between $15 to $25/day. Never tell them that you're under 25. You MAY get away with it. I did it once. I showed them my ID and it was their responsibility to figure out my age.

Just to let you know, call your current car insurance if you will be covered when you rent a car. My car insurance covers me if I drive a rental car. Plus if I use my Mastercard to rent the car, it covers any damage on the rental car.

$7/day (Enterprise) for insurance is a killer. May not look a lot, but add that with under 25 then it's hurting your wallet. Btw, there may also be airport fee if you rent from the airport. I know Enterprise at San Fransisco has such thing.

And never, ever, ever buy their full gas tank program. You can always find cheaper gasoline outside.

Thought I'd add some car renting info:

I used to work for Enterprise (worse mistake of my life btw). Anyway, if you're flying into PDX, don't rent from the airport. You can take the MAX to the Gateway Transit Center, where they will pick you up (I used to work for that branch - oh hated former life). Call the branch when you're on the MAX, and they'll be waiting. You'll save $$ big time just by adding ~15 minutes to your trip. Also, NEVER buy the insurance unless you really need it. My job was to sell that damn insurance, and the company pressures its employees to sell it SO much, they say and do almost anything to get you to sign it. Some of my former coworkers even used to tell people to sign in the boxes for "accept" even when the client said no. Later when the person went to pay, they saw they'd signed in the wrong box, but couldn't do a thing because it is a legal document. Anyway, I'll stop now. I hate Enterprise. Oh shoot, I said I'd stop...

Hi everyone I will be applying to Pacific for Fall 2007 admission submitting in the 2nd round. I'm just finishing up the application and getting my last LOR. I was wondering if anyone is applying with vertebrate physiology instead of human physiology?
Looks like a lot of you have interviews next weekend!!! Good luck to all of you and would love to hear how the interviews go!

How many people are they going to interview?

In an information session a few weeks ago, they said each interview group would be 50-60 people. I think last year they did about 4-5 interview sessions, so that would be about 200-300 people interviewed.

bump...

first round of interviews saturday - who's excited?

I'm excited... for you guys 🙁

Congrats on your USC Invite Pharm 👍 Good :luck:

~above~

Thanks! Part of me wishes the USC interview was before Pacific's, so I'd get a chance to "practice," but I'm just hoping for an acceptance out of either!

I'll update interview feedback on Sunday, so everyone in the future interview dates will have that as a reference.

I am so excited for Saturday too! I am definitely nervous, though. I am hoping I won't be a neurotic mess on Saturday. I think once we all get there and get a chance to meet one another and the staff, our nerves will start to settle. I have read the interview feedback from last year, and have like 10 pages of practive interview questions I found from browsing the web. I just figure I will go in there and be myself, and whatever happens, happens, right? I have almost 4 years of full-time pharmacy tech experience, and I am realizing how much it has prepared me for all of this. I am just a late bloomer! Good luck to everyone... and I can't wait to meet all of you who will be attending. And to everyone else still waiting; hang in there. Your turn will be next! Back to packing, and homework.... I am getting ready for a long drive! Cheers!

Where are you driving from?! Eek.

We are driving from Fargo, ND. It will be about 20 hours. I am actually looking forward to the drive... and seeing Fargo in the rear-view mirror! I have done the drive from Wisc. and Mich to Portland about 6 times already. It is a peice of cake now. Flying is too costly out of Fargo, and I could use the downtime... for relaxation and practicing for the interview.

Well drive safe! I'm glad there is a "we" involved: driving 20 hours by yourself would be tough.

I was just thinking about the curriculum at Pacific. I actually think the way the curriculum is set up at Pacific will work well with the way I like to learn. However, I wonder what some of the P1's are struggling with... the material...or how the block system works? I think it's natural that pharmacy students have struggles through school from time to time, because there is a lot of information to learn. I just hope that it's going to be possible to get through the program without failing or burning out. If you hear any other info. about how the students are doing, I would love to have the insight. I have a friend who is now a Pharmacist who used to think she would never make it through pharmacy school.... but she did and is doing great. I remember her saying that going to pharmacy school was the hardest thing she ever did, and her and her classmates all relied on eachother for support and encouragement. I think Pacific will do everything they can to help the student get through the tough times.

Wow, it’s interesting to hear rumors that have made it to the world “outside”. It's really not as bad as you've been led to believe. Yes, some people are finding the curriculum to be quite challenging. Should this be a surprise? A graduate curriculum in an aggressively condensed format, with a 90% minimum pass level to boot? Does that SOUND like it would be easy? However, the class average from the last four exams is 95% and the majority of people are passing without a problem and not coming back on Monday. All of the professors have done a good job of paying close attention to feedback and have more or less adjusted their lectures accordingly. Pacific is very teamwork oriented and most people work to help and encourage each other to perform well on the assessments. So, in-spite of the kinks that every new program faces, the assessments and workload have been nothing but expected and most students are meeting those challenges successfully. 👍

If anyone has specific questions or concerns about anything in the program or my personal impressions, I'd be happy to answer them (time allowing of course 😉 ).

Thank you so much for that feedback. I didn't expect anything less from Pacific. I am glad to hear that everyone is doing well and the program is a success. The curriculum isn't supposed to be easy.... if I get accepted I will be prepared to work my tail off.

I didn't think that Pacific required an essay on the interview day, but I wanted to find out if I am wrong. Does anyone know for sure? I don't think so , but I don't want to be surprised. Also, Pacific does "closed interivews", right? This basically means when you step in for the interview, they have no idea what was on your application or your stats? You pretty much have to approach it like they don't know anything about you. If anyone could confirm that; I would be grateful. Thanks.

The interview was a closed filed interview last year. If you check the interview feedback section, it tells you everything you need to know. Hopefully nothing has changed/will change this year.
Have a safe drive and see you Sat! =)

Best wishes to Pharm, Ammarha, eddie, anfhockey, sego, and all others who are interviewing this weekend. May you travel safely and may you get your acceptance to Pacific Pharmacy soon after interviewing!

Thanks! Hopefully we'll have good feedback you can use for the next round!

You are welcome🙂 I'm sure I could benefit greatly from the feedback you all provide and I'm sure ~above~ and others would appreciate it as well. Hopefully we'll hear about our interview invites the week of October 30th (if not sooner🙂). I'm thinking they'll have another round days before or after Thanksgiving.

Later

I have most of application complete and my letters will be ready by this weekend. I already sent out the transcripts..do you think I am too late to apply? I had applied last year and did not get an interview but I emailed Vanessa to show my progress and she said I did fine..what do u guys think?

Hmm... Like myself and G - we were a bit slower in turning in our apps - so we were not even looked at for the first round (the quickest). Those applicants have the best chance of getting in. Its ok, but sooner is definitely better

As to what you have done to progress from last year - they want it in an essay format on the essay portion of the app. Its great that you emailed Vanessa, but I think you can tell she is going to be optimistic for everyone (thats her personality to be upbeat and positive). Make sure it is eloquently put and hits the high marks...

Aside from that - hope for the best - we all are 😀

P.S. G - that was a very kind post - you guys are all great - I know you 5 will do awesome on the first round, I'm praying for you. Im praying for all of us without interviews as well!!!

Ok - back to microbio...
