Pacific University Oregon Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No, the supplemental app fee isn't included.

However, don't freak out. The PharmCAS was due 11/1. The supplemental is due 12/1. You still have time! Did you get an email confirming Pacific received your supplemental or that your application is complete? If not, I would go through the supplemental application again and make sure you paid. If it still looks fishy, give the school a call and ask what's up.

My pharmCAS application was submitted sometime in October. I was just sayin a little late compared to the rest of you (still before the 12/1 deadline). Anyway, I did get an email saying that I successfully submitted it, and to click on a link to check the status. When I clicked on it, it took me to the application website and next to 'status' it says 'sent, received, and confirmed!'...with a date confirmed of this morning. Not sure what's going on. Maybe I'm exempt from fees:laugh: Nah, I will give them a call to see what's going on.

...just called, said I wouldn't be penalized...it may have something to do with me having been an undergraduate there, but they haven't looked into that. They may send me an email asking for payment information. If I don't hear anything, then the fee is waived😀

On a side note, if people have any questions about the area feel free to ask. I was born and raised in the Portland area and went to undergrad at Pacific. Also been to the professional campus many times...did some of my thesis work in the lab at the pharmacy school.

Woo hoo!! Very nervous lol.

me too, that makes two of us

I wonder if that means they will start doing some rejections too? Or are they the silent rejection type? I have a VERY strong application minus my VERY low science GPA. I am curious to see how it turns out.

I was in the first round of interviews (11/13) and just got a call from Kieran yesterday regarding my acceptance! Very excited and I especially like the way the program is set up...however, very nervous about the assessments!

I'm currently a P1 and available for questions and/or concerns if any.

Congrats to those of you have who have received interviews and those of you who have been accepted!

Also for those that are not familiar with the area and are looking for a place to stay during the interview, I stayed at:

SpringHill Suites Marriot
7351 NE Butler Street
Hillsboro, OR 97124 US

It's about 10 minutes from school and they have a FREE shuttle service that will take you there and bring you back when you are done. Just let them know your time frame. They are also available to take you around town if you want to go shopping nearby, etc.

Goodluck everyone!

That's where I stayed when I interviewed last week...free breakfast buffet too!

Congrats angiebear!!!

Like i said in the UoP post, I would be thrilled to be accepted here over UoP anytime!!!

What assessment are you talking about?

I didn't know about this assessment thing either... Could you tell us more about it?

The curriculum is set up so that only one subject is studied at a time.

One subject for every 2 week period. At the end of the two weeks, there is an individual exam on the subject on the last friday of the 2 week period. Following the individual exam, you also work with your group on the exam. You must achieve 90% or greater on the individual exam in order to pass the assessment. If you pass on the group exam, an additional 5% is added to your individual exam score. If your score still does not meet the objective even with the additional 5%, then you take the exam again on the following Monday. If you still don't pass, you take the exam again at the end of the semester. That said, I believe this can only occur with a max of 3 classes during any one semester. Any more than that and you will be asked to leave the program.

Quite intimidating, but I still like how the program focuses on one subject at a time. The school will discuss this on Interview Day.

Thx!!! I posted info regarding assessments separately...see above!

angiebare- You are exactly right. They definitely go over this in quite detail during the interview. Technically the block only lasts 6 class days. Each block is started on a Wednesday (usually) and every other Tuesday (test week Tuesday) students have IPPE rotations.

Personally, I love the block system that PU has set up for our program.

Wow! Really cool! congrats! Mind sharing your stats, volunteer experience, LOR etc?

cGPA: 3.69
sGPA: 3.85
Volunteer - thus far, 440 hours at a community pharmacy
LOR - 4 total, 1 from head of the chemistry department, 2 from professors, and 1 from a pharmacist

It seems as though Pacific's program places a strong emphasis on teamwork, so your ability to function within a team will be incorporated into the interview. Consequently, your ability to communicate within a group setting is also a factor.

Hope this helps & much luck to all of you applying!:luck:

I have to second Ms. Singh 🙂 They make the 90% completely doable. They're not out to fail you or weed you out like in undergrad. If you study the material, you'll pass.

OK, seems like we have 2 acceptances thus far for this school. I will update the roll call.

No no. Singh and I are already P1's 🙂 shoot us questions if you have any! There are no acceptances yet as the first interviews occurred on the 11th.

It seems like these 2 members above were accepted. Correct me if I am wrong.

oh I didn't even see this! I guess they have been accepted. 🙂 congrats to them. I'm not a part of admissions so I wouldn't know. I may see you all at interview day though.

For those interviewing in January, congrats on getting the interview!

Below are a list of questions I was asked during my interview:
1) 3 strengths & 3 weaknesses
2) how would you feel if you received an 89.5% and did not pass
3) where do you see yourself in 7 years
4) why Pacific
5) why pharmacy
6) what role do you take on in a group setting
7) how would you handle yourself if someone did something against your belief

As a quick reminder, there's a lot of emphasis on teamwork and many of the questions are geared towards your ability to interact and communicate within a team.

Thank you, angiebare! I received my invitation today and I am looking forward to the interview!

They did not ask you "tell me about yourself"? I find that kind of weird since that is like the number 1 question pharmacy schools ask.

Did they ask you anything about what you wrote in your supplement and personal statement (from PharmCAS)?

Thank you!

oh my god, i got my interview invitation to pacific university-oregon on january 8th. i'm so thrilled and i can't wait to fly to oregon. oooooyay happy🙂

Congratulations on getting the interviews! I am happy for you guys. 🙂
Now spend a lot of time preparing for the interview so you can nail it.

hey angiebare, i'm going to the interview on january 8th, do you have any recommendations as far as the hotel accomodation and nearby attractions to check out offhand while staying in oregon? thanks

Guess this means I am still on hold. I knew my science GPA was gonna bite me. 🙁

Hey now wandernkind, I'm still waiting too but let's keep our chin's up till the bitter (it won't come to that 😉) end! Worst case scenario, three more interview dates; I have a good feeling about it 🙂

I got my interview invite today as well! 🙂 It's on jan. 8, for those of you interviewing on jan. 8, are any of you flying from cali, if so, what city/airport are you flying out from and when? which hotel are you guys thinking of staying at?

I believe it was closed, so they did not have access to my supplement or personal statement. There was the standard "tell me about yourself". But that has been a part of every single one of my interviews and the easiest question I think 🙂

Best of luck on the interview...the school is very impressive!

I flew on Jet Blue out of Long Beach (short lines) to Portland (PDX). Direct flight with in-flight tv for each seat. I got a rental in Portland and stayed an extra day to tour the city...it's awesome and sales-tax free. Tons of great restaurants and boutiques!

my apps was complete on Oct 1st and I still haven't heard anything from the school....feel anxious 🙁

thanks...Pacific is my second choice. Im from Texas. I do not have any pharm experience adn no volunteer hour. My ogpa: 3.37, sgpa: 3.57, AS, BS, but no pharm experience and volunteer hours. I do not know if I will get interview invitation (may b not in worse case) because of that 🙁

where is your first choice? somewhere in texas i suppose? my overall gpa is 3.68, s gpa: 3.58. getting my AS Honors Degree in may 2011. i worked as a pharm tech in walgreens for 3 years, hospital pharmacy for 1 year, 4 recommendations, one was from my pharmacist in walgreens. phi theta kappa member-international honor society for community college students, treasurer of the honors association at my school. i was worried because i don't have my bachelors degree yet. you sound like a well-qualified candidate. you are a better candidate in my opinion than me because you already have a bachelors. i thought grades are the most important? i think the pharmacy experience is a bonus, not a determining factor.

i'm only interested in three year accelerated programs at this point, but i applied to four year programs just in case. it's weird, almost all 3 year programs i applied to invited me to interview with me, but among the 4 year programs i applied to, only one school invited me to interview with them. I don't get it, it is so weird. what did i do wrong with the 4 year schools that they are not interested in me?

have any other schools invited you for an interview? maybe your first choice school will invite you, you never know so don't get too worked up about it. 🙂

hmm, i can't seem to get the special rate to work for the hotel angiebare suggested =/
