hmm, i can't seem to get the special rate to work for the hotel angiebare suggested =/

enter Z8U under the corporate/promotion code, i got 89.00 a night. still expensive so i haven't any reservations yet. other schools i interviewed with, their hotels were like 50-60 dollars per night.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, don't worry too much, i'll pray for you. is pacific your top choice? what state are you from? i'm actually from new jersey, which is far.

where is your first choice? somewhere in texas i suppose? my overall gpa is 3.68, s gpa: 3.58. getting my AS Honors Degree in may 2011. i worked as a pharm tech in walgreens for 3 years, hospital pharmacy for 1 year, 4 recommendations, one was from my pharmacist in walgreens. phi theta kappa member-international honor society for community college students, treasurer of the honors association at my school. i was worried because i don't have my bachelors degree yet. you sound like a well-qualified candidate. you are a better candidate in my opinion than me because you already have a bachelors. i thought grades are the most important? i think the pharmacy experience is a bonus, not a determining factor.

i'm only interested in three year accelerated programs at this point, but i applied to four year programs just in case. it's weird, almost all 3 year programs i applied to invited me to interview with me, but among the 4 year programs i applied to, only one school invited me to interview with them. I don't get it, it is so weird. what did i do wrong with the 4 year schools that they are not interested in me?

have any other schools invited you for an interview? maybe your first choice school will invite you, you never know so don't get too worked up about it. 🙂

omg, you have alot on your apps. I applied to both 3 and 4 yrs program. My top choice is utah, my cousin is living there so if I got accept into Utah then I can share room with her. I have interview with Touro in CA next week. Even if I can't get in Utah and Pacific, any pharm school, any program will be just fine 😛

congrats on your interview invitation with touro, i heard it's a really good school. hope you can interviewed by utah and pacific soon enough. thank you for compliment. i only have 5 interview invitations so far, which is not good. out of the 5 invitations, 4 of them are 3 year accelerated programs. me too me too, any program will do for me. but i still prefer the 3 year program, trying to make 100,000 one year early. hehe. :xf:

try expedia travel or orbits, put in the zip code, you may find good rates around the area

89 with breakfast and shuttle service is a pretty good price. Usually schools recommend nice hotels for prospective students to stay at. The cost of living is high in the pacific northwest compared to most other places in the states so I don't think you would find a decent hotel for 50-60$, maybe a motel 😉

thank you so much and good luck on your interview with touro-cali. California would be great to live because of the spring weather.

I don't know if you have applied to sullivan university in kentucky and it's a 3 year program too. that's the only one that has been ignoring me this whole time. when i called, the lady kept telling me there is no way to know my application status. i don't like that because if i paid 100 dollars application fee, i better know my status. i hate the silent treatment

you know what, thank you, you have a great point, completely forgot the west coast has higher cost of living. that's because i'm from new jersey, that's why i forgot. thank you for the reminder🙂

Yes, I just applied for that one 2 weeks ago. I am such a procrastinator. When did you submit your apps?

i applied in september. they are really pissing me off with the silent treatment. if you don't like my application, just tell me i'm not invited. don't just leave me hanging.

I know the waiting sux. They will interview until jan-feb next year so you still have chance to get interview invitation any time between now and feb. And you still have other options 🙂

i'm beginning to think they are not worth it

thank you so much, how much did you pay to stay at this hotel. it's good that they provide shuttle to school. do they provide shuttle to airport too? i'm flying from new jersey. any tips in finding a cheap flight? where in oregon is worth sightseeing. where did you go sightseeing specifically?

thanks for the tip, i love to travel, so i want to travel offhand and get my money worth, any recommendations? thanks in advance🙂

I paid around $90 for the hotel. Shuttle from airport is not provided, but I didn't need it since I rented a car to get around. Renting a car via hotwire.com is really cheap. Sightseeing was limited to downtown Portland...mainly to check out restaurants and shops. However, there are apparently tons more to check out in OR - nature scenes if you're into that. I've always been more of a city gal and a foodie!

I got my hotel through Hotwire for $45. It was Comfort Inn, which is very close to the school, about 5-10 mins or so. They have free continental breakfast in the morning with waffles and already made omelets. That's all I need. I also rented a car through Alamo since I have $40 discount through Discover card cash back program. The good thing is I rented a compact size, but when I got there, they said I can pick any car I want, so I got a Ford Escape limited with leather and USB port, for a total of $50 for 2 days (before the discount). So this made me really happy since I didn't bring any CD, just a USB for music. 🙂 (And the car got pretty gas mileage too, around 25 mpg).

I went to Canon beach, which is absolutely beautiful. The drive was very scenic as well, but a bit long, like 2 hours or so. Back in the city, you can walk around the Pearl downtown, Japanese garden, or go to the Columbia River Gorge. I got these recommendations from the website Pacific sent to me after they invited me for interview.

All in all, it was a good trip. I wish it stopped raining for a little while so that it doesn't look so gloomy all the time. But I guess that is why Portland is so pretty, because of the fog and the green trees from the rain. 🙂

You are quite fast and correct! Thank you Delano! 🙂

I browse the threads from time to time so if I notice someone who have been accepted to a school I just go ahead and add them to the roll call.

PS. Congrats to everyone on getting interview invitations. I got an email asking me to complete the supp app but I think I am going to email them to let them know that I am no longer considering their program.

Because my PCAT score was just received, I got an email saying my application is complete and I saw that it was updated on pharmcas too.
But i noticed something weird - for the 4 items listed below supplemental under Pacific Oregon it has today's date as date received and has the school deadline listed as December 1st but 2009! I'm assuming this is just a typo or something?

thank you so much. it's weird most of the interviews i got are from the 3 year accelerated programs and i don't know why only one four year school invited me for interview. but congrats on getting accepted to pharmacy school🙂

there is no flight directly to hillsboro? we have to fly to portland first? does any one know how to get to hillsboro from portland

anyone is coming to the january 8th interview? i want to go sightseeing after the interview, or before too. who is interested in renting a car together so we can split the cost and go sightseeing together? let me know

Do you guys think 3 year programs look for different kind of applicants than 4 year schools? most of the accelerated invited me to interview with them, but only one four year school asked me to interview. I wonder why,

I got an email saying that I'm on hold. Not too happy about that, especially since they said I won't get an an interview for the January 8th, but maybe i can get one for the 22nd. But if they're not looking at me too favorably now, then that means my chances of getting in when there are fewer spots left at the 3 or 4th interview are even worse. 🙁

When were you confirmed? My app was confirmed on 11/19.. so not going to make the 1/8 interview date. How does the "hold" work? I assume you would still be in the running? so Cheer up! :0

[ps:wandernkind: if your reading this.. Yes my app is almost right on the deadline. Yikes. 😉 ]

Is "confirmed" the date in pharmcas where it says for the supplemetal "Date Item was Postmarked or Received by School?"
If so, then my date was 11/23/2010 - i thought it would have been received earlier since I sent it few weeks before that, and I don't think they were waiting for my pcat which just arrived.
Also, I'm not exactly sure how the hold works. Especially because it said the next emails would be sent mid-December, so I hope they'll be able to see my grades in time before sending out those emails. Because I think my grades this semester would help me out. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. 🙄

You will have to fly into Portland (PDX) and then take the train or taxi to Hillsboro. Hillsboro is only 20min outside of Portland.

I got the hold e-mail too. I am trying to be positive, but I am guessing I am not gonna get an interview at all. My science GPA is just too low. Oh well, maybe next year

I did not get any email so I called and the lady told me something like that. I feel the same 🙁

Oh now im not sure. I got an email from Kieran saying my app is complete on 11/19 ( supplemental mailed on 11/18).
BTW I read the forum for Pacific class of '13, and I am a bit worry about their process.. a person got in AFTER orientation! and the hold process seemed to drive everyone crazy bc it doesnt say if you are in or rejected...

oh never mind- I probably should have realized this sooner, but the date I mentioned on pharmcas (under the supplemental info) is not the same thing i guess. I just went back to the pacific u website to see my supplemental (where it says "review your activity") and I saw there that it said mine was sent on the 11th and "confirmed" on 11/15. Not that it makes a difference since I'm on hold. But I'm guessing that's the date you were told when you called in.
I too am really worried about this, but I hope that it won't come to being accepted after orientation. At that point I hope to be accepted (and have my payement in) at another school. Best of luck to you! who knows...maybe we'll be at the 3rd interview together

I agree, it is super scary the way that pacific accepts people. However I have a friend who was accepted a few days before orientation to a medical school. This is just how it works I guess. All I can do is plan for applying next year. I guess we just have to keep our heads up!

for people who are coming to the interview on january 8th, i'm wondering if anyone is interested in renting the car to go sightseeing. i'm willing to split the cost, because i'm from new jersey, so it's easier to stick together for sightseeing. if anyone is interested, just either reply to this post, or PM me. thanks🙂

thank you. are you going to attend pacific or you are looking at other options? what other schools did u apply to?

My top choice is UOP, followed by Pacific and MCPHS. Luckily, I was able to get into Pacific and MCPHS but UOP put me on hold until March. I'm a bit torn...UOP and Pacific are neck and neck in terms of what I want from a school. Not sure what I would do if I were able to get into UOP too...

UOP - hold
Pacific OR - Accepted
MCPHS Worcester - Accepted
Loma Linda - pending decision
Western - waiting for an interview
Touro CA - High Alternate

Quite a list of schools! What are your top picks?

Quite a list of schools! What are your top picks?

my top choices are LECOM-ERIE because of the low tuition cost, pacific university-oregon and south university. I'm only interested in the accelerated programs at this point. i'm actually trying to go sightseeing with someone who is also coming to the january 8th interview, so we can split the cost for car rental or even hotel, so this way it's cheaper for everyone. do you think it's a good idea?

hope you had a good thanksgiving. are you going to pay the deposit for pacific. how long do we have to pay the deposit? how much is the deposit for pacific?

i heard oregon is beautiful🙂🙂

I LOVE OR...it was my first time visiting and I thought it was gorgeous. It had just the perfect mix of city and suburbia. I definitely think you should go sightseeing and having a buddy will definitely make it more fun! I'm a shopper and a foodie, so I spent most of my time in downtown Portland 😀

You have 2 weeks from the date on the acceptance letter to submit a deposit. The deposit is $1000, nonrefundable but it is put towards your fall tuition. I'm definitely submitting my deposit as I will not hear from my other top pick until March.

Let me know what you think of OR! Would love to hear how your interview went as well...BEST OF LUCK!

angiebare: i'm planning to go sightseeing at portland, cannon beach, and maybe columbia gorge drive. need to rent a car and drive around. i'm planning to stay an extra day to travel. as for the deposit, i guess you prefer pacific over MCPHS, MCPHS put my application on hold until my fall grades come out. I think MCPHS made mistakes at calculating my gpa, their calculated GPA for me it's lower than the pharmcas GPA. i'm pissed at mcphs for making so many mistakes.

I also got an email from kieran about the interview details and there are a few things that i think it's pretty different and interesting:

they take pictures of interviewees there
white coat try on
spontaneous writing within 15 minutes (was the topic hard for you?)
the interview is two on one. (how many interviews will there be?)

thank you for your good luck wishes, i need it. hopefully i'll see you in our first class. 🙂:xf:

MCPHS just wasn't a good fit for me in th end...their class size is too large (250) and I really thrive off of a smaller class setting.

I have had interviews at other schools that take your pictures, so it wasn't as surprising for me when Pacific took mine. The white coat try on is exciting because you feel like you're in the program...that one gave me tingles 🙂 The writing portion was easy and everyone gets the same essay question...I believe it was an ethical question. Something to the effect of "you're a pharmacist and your wife wakes up in the middle of the night with a severe and painful migraine. the law prohibits you from treating her, but what do you do in this situation." As for interviews, there is only 1 2:1 interview. My interview was with a local community pharmacist and a faculty member. There will also be a group exercise...this is done to see how you function within a teamwork setting.

Quick question:

Does the status on PharmCAS change to received only after they have reviewed your application? I received the applicaton complete and received email from them a while ago, by my PharmCAS status still only says postmarked...

They put me on HOLD.......Wht does it mean?????They havent mentioned anything in email/.......wht should I consider/????????

They put me on HOLD.......Wht does it mean?????They havent mentioned anything in email/.......wht should I consider/????????

It didn't say anything else? I was also put on hold. The email that i got said that I wasn't invited for an interview now, but my application is "still being considered for an interview" for one of the remaining 3 days and that they will email me again next month with the next batch of emails in mid-december.
Seems like there are a few of us in the same boat here. We have no choice but to wait it out. 🙁

Western - waiting for an interview
Touro CA - High Alternate

Angiebare, looks like we're in similar boats! I got accepted to Pacific OR too and I loved it. We must've been in the same interview day. I'm not going to the UOP interview until late January though..and I wasn't too impressed with MCPHS. Best of luck to you, and maybe I'll see you in the fall at Pacific! 🙂

According to the Admissions Office, around 34 acceptance offers have been sent out and so far 10 have sent in their deposits.
I will be at the January 8th interview day so I hope to meet some of you 🙂

congrats to those of you who have recieved interviews and acceptance. I'm one of the less fortunate applicants who have been placed on hold. I am curious to know if anyone has not heard back from pacific for the Jan 8th interview. My wife and I both applied at the same time(late), and I called admissions and they immediately sent me my hold email, but my wife has yet to hear back. Is their a waitlist to ensure their interveiw time slots are full? For the applicants who can not attend on Jan 8th, but recieved an interview. I'm just wondering if anyone else is still waiting.......good luck to all.

Quick question:

Does the status on PharmCAS change to received only after they have reviewed your application? I received the applicaton complete and received email from them a while ago, by my PharmCAS status still only says postmarked...

Does anyone know the answer to this question? Any help would really be appreciated 🙂

I don't think PharmCas will update the school's action as to whether or not they have reviewed your application. The best way to find out is to call the school...
