I'm just thinking about how PTCAS will slaughter my pGPA.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I know it's nearly post-admittance time and the stats in the stickied thread are overwhelming. Happy for you all who worked hard and got accepted!

If you have the time, go ahead and retake those B's. Just be warned that some schools average the two grades instead of taking the higher one - it's best if you call each individual program to find out so you can determine if it's worth it to retake a couple classes. People are from everywhere on this forum so it'll be difficult to find someone that already has a list of schools for retakes. Just do really well in the classes you have left. Don't even make getting anything under an A an option.

Cast a pretty large net. Your overall GPA is fine, your GRE is great, your prereq GPA is a little worrying, since I am under the impression that prereq GPA is more valuable than overall. If you really want to stay in the state, I want to just warn you now that it is very competitive and you might be disappointed if you don't get accepted anywhere. Try to do some research into schools out of state and see if they fit your needs or not. Also, since you're a student at UCB and worked in Oakland with Americorps, you should definitely, definitely apply to Samuel Merritt, serving the underserved community runs well with them. Great school, and they calculate prereq GPA in your favor for the most part - I remember they said my prereq GPA was a 3.3 when PTCAS said it was a 3.1.

Just for your knowledge I'll post my stats here so you don't have to go digging in the stickied thread for them. There's hope for us low GPA applicants!

Like you, I also went to CAL. My undergraduate years were also rough, but after taking classes at a community college and finishing up my pre requisites, I still managed to get interviews and acceptances. Schools that take retakes for sure are Samuel Merritt and USA. I graduated in 2009, so a lot of my classes were past 5 years which prevented me from applying to certain schools. Just make sure when applying that you meet all the requirements, otherwise it would be a waste of money because schools will just throw out your application. I applied to about 10 schools, mostly out of state, but ultimately decided to stay in CA and go to USA. I am headed there in the Fall. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Hey man,

Personally, I think you have a solid stats and you shouldn't worry about retaking classes because your GRE scores is up there and you did your time in observation.

From my experience, I think it comes down to how real you are with pursuing a DPT.

Are you human? Do you really care about this profession and etc...

Whatever you say in your personal statement, make sure it reflects during interview.

There are so many people out there that are serious about DPT.

So show some emotions. (Which I'm not good at)

It seems like non-traditional applicants backgrounds in drama/dancing/theatre have done very well closing out on their interview.

Thanks for the advice, guys. In lieu of starting a new thread, I was wondering how PTCAS shows the GPAs. I'm a bit confused. Is there a science GPA that includes all my science classes? On the website, it says that PTCAS calculates 24 GPAs. What the heck.

I swear, GPA calculations are gonna drive me nuts. I'm trying to figure out where exactly I stand so I can pick and choose schools that I meet, if I even meet them.

Also, another question. I see people saying to apply early. Why is that exactly? Schools I've looked at say the deadline is sometime in the Fall, but they don't mention that they are part of a rolling acceptance. Obviously, if it is rolling, then it would be beneficial to apply as soon as possible, but if not, then it shouldn't make a difference, right?

Applying early is literally applying as soon as the application opens up in the beginning of July. You can go ahead and complete all of your school specific essays now, if any, by going to the school specific pages listed on PTCAS.

Even if a school isn't rolling and applicant A = applicant B in every category, but applicant A applied first, who do you think the committee will pick?
