Did your AMC provide a pay bump for completing ABPP CN board certification, and if so, by how much? Thank you in advance for sharing information that may be helpful in an upcoming meeting with my superiors.

That’s literally why ABPP was created. The VA gave a pay bump to board certified providers. You should be able to find it under the “pay for performance” criteria for steps.

As PsyDr said, VA typically gives a one step increase for board certification (although the decision ultimately depends on local leadership). Which if my math is correct, equates to about 3% and some change.

I've heard of other organizations providing 5% or 10% bumps, but don't have any specific AMC names for you.

Also, some random advice for VA psychologists: if possible, time your board certification so that it occurs soon after a step increase rather than just before one, as the bump can sometimes reset the clock for you next step increase. I wouldn't say it's worth putting it off multiple years, but if you're almost due for an increase, it might be worth picking a later oral exam date if possible.

I've also not seen pay bumps in AMCs (case in point, my department).

I support advocating for as much as you can get (including getting your department to pay for all of the boards stages, including travel for orals). Depending on the culture of your AMC dept, you may be fighting an uphill battle with getting your superiors to agree to a pay bump (but awesome for you if you can do it!!).

My department doesn't do a pay bump for boarding either, but it's a significant boost to your portfolio for T&P, which can then lead to a big salary bump if you go up in rank.

Beware of getting strung along at an AMC. They can make a big deal about "promotion" and titles, but definitely look into the ratios of Lecturer, Assistant Prof, Assoc., Full....bc most places have a very bottom heavy setup, by design. Titles don't pay the mortgage and promises can't be cashed at a bank.
