pcat scores for 8-21-10

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
WOW! It was early!!!!
I am "satisfied" with my score I guess considering what I got last time. Do I wish I could have done better? Yes, but satisfied nonetheless.
Composite: 71
Yes! 👍 Can we get some acceptances now. Lol.

PCAT SCORE Attempt #2 (old scores in parenthesis):
Verbal: 82 (43)
Biology: 99 (54)
Reading Comprehension: 45 (26)
Quantitative Ability: 93 (88)
Chemistry: 96 (68)
Composite: 95 (60)

OMG!!!😀

Note: The practice tests predicted my score pretty well! All of my scores match up except I usually got around 70 for verbal and around 60-70 for reading.

I'm stoked about my score...but it bugs me my two lowest scores are Chemistry and Quant...should I retake? Or be happy with what I got?

wow, that was frightening.

verbal :89
bio: 91
rc: 45!!!!! 😱
chem: 85
quant: 85
comp: 86

3.5/3.5 for writing and problem solving.

I studied about 25 days so I'm pretty happy with my scores.
I'm VERY surprised that I did well in chem and quant considering that I guessed on the last 10 questions for both sections. I don't know if I should retake for the 45 in RC. I was very sleep deprived during the test which resulted in my low RC score.

I really just want to blow off the oct test I signed up for. I don't think I can pull off a score like this again.

congrats! that's a good score, I presonally wouldn't mess with it just incase you have a bad test day next time! Think you forgot to post your verbal by the way 😛

I tried twice to get my personal score report but I keep getting an error message. I think it's because everyone and their mom is trying to get their reports too, lol. or maybe its a sign that I should wait for the mail...

This is great news. I just found out you can get your scores at the PCAT website. It was the best $20 I ever spent. I can't believe they posted so early.

I studied with Dr. Collins and his stuff his great. You should support him and buy directly from the guy!

Good luck to all.

I think I did well for 25 days worth of studying. That 45 in RC makes me want to take the PCAT a 2nd time... but I don't want to 🙁

Congrats!!! I didn't pass ;( First timer... I want to buy Dr. Collins since Kaplan didn't prepare me well.

Took the PCAT a few years ago as well. Pretty decent improvement. I can't complain and I'm glad the wait is over! Congrats to all! 👍

I'm sorry it's my first time too and I basically studied for ~6 hours a day for over a month... it was kind of my only shot at this since in October I doubt I'll even be able to look at any review material because of school. What do you mean by fail though? I think any score can be competitive if it's complemented by a good GPA, honors, etc.

Keep your head up though, it's kind of depressing seeing all the 90+%'s, but you never know how the next one will turn out. In my case my August one counts for Early Admission, so at least you have another chance to improve for the next test.

89 Verbal Ability
98 Biology

First time taking it!! Most Pleased!

anybody still seeing the "error report...come back to a later date" page? I still cant see my score report.

I'm almost in the same boat as you, one bad section and nearly the same composite.

Do you think we're still generally pretty competitive? I have a 3.89 GPA (4.0 Science currently *taps on wood*) so hopefully that makes up for it a bit. I put so much dang work in keeping my GPA up it better pay off heh.

That's good to know that PharmCAS should show they have your scores essentially at the same time/before you receive them. So if it doesn't show up in the next few days I should have Pearson send my 'transcript' directly to 104 PharmCAS then? I had just had them sent to my school stupidly (but was assured that since they use PharmCAS the scores will be sent to PharmCAS anyway). In October I have both 104/school.

Ya I guess they didn't do it the same way this time, because my PharmCAS is still not reflecting the new scores. Hopefully tomorrow so they can be sent to schools!!!!

I got a 33 composite ;( don't think any school will consider scores this low. My GPA is 3.5, not so good. The only good thing on my application is that I'm a full time pharmacy tech, thats the reason I don't get much time to study ;(. The truth is I procrastinated a lot and studied only for 2 weeks plus my quant speed is bad. Do you think I should buy Dr. Collins to do better? I have the Kaplan book, online practice test and some other practice test from a friend. Thanks for your advice 🙂

I hope so, then my bloody application will FINALLY be complete. I had a reference give me a panic attack (literally) by saying he wasn't going to do the reference right before the deadline after previously asking him 4 months prior (he did though, he was 'teaching me a lesson'), so I'll be very glad to be done with the whole affair honestly.

I actually think you're right, 50% is about the cut off for most schools (well at least for mine which had me freaked out a bit since I had no idea how I did). But it is your first time and you still have a bit to prep and get in the 'mindset' of taking such a rigorous test (ie get pacing down, work on essays, etc). You can only go up from here since experience is everything in these exams.

And a 3.5 is still good, most accepted averages are around a 3.3. A pharmacy tech is a great edge to have as well, I only have shadowing so at least in my view it's a plus.

Honestly it sounds like Dr. Collins may be a good investment. I used McGraw Hill, Kaplan, Barrons, and a few ACS Chemistry review guides so honestly I have NO other resources left to tap into. It's a bit expensive, but it sounds like it does get you in the mindset of the test.

Oh definitely buy the practice exams from Pearson. I got my pacing down to a fine science thanks to them.

Yowsas, tough lesson! Mine was already complete since I had a January score, but it was pitiful so my application hasn't gotten me any interviews, only a hold letter so far 🙁
I am PRAYING that my new score will be sufficient for an interview. It's not GREAT, but it's not BAD, and I have a 3.8 GPA so that levels it out I hope.

Yeah i didn't do so hot on this. Way worse than I was expecting. 🙁 Especially compared to what I've seen here so far.

Thanks fullmetalphrm!!! I bought the online tests too, they helped but my timing needs to improve. I bobbled in half of the quant and chem questions, so mad at myself ;(... Good night and best of lucks with your application!

Don't worry...we only post our good scores. :meanie:

I took it the first time back in June but once I saw my 65 composite I decided I wasn't so eager to share. 😉

Yeah it was pretty crazy...

That's what I'm hoping, that my GPA manages to 'level me out' and be generally more competitive than the average bear. I'm kind of crazy since I'm only applying for one school in Early Admission, but it has rolling admissions so I essentially get two chances to get accepted.

Mean I couldn't really apply to other schools anyway since their pre-reqs were different (I'll have them later on though), and honestly going out of state is way out of my limits (both for living and out of state tuition). Plus I love the school I'm applying to (I shadowed there and mentioned that in my essay) so it could work out for me since I'm kind of taking a 'blitzkreig' method of school so far and want just one amazingly good shot right off the bat.

haha I know but 65 its not that bad ...If I tell my dad I got a 33 he will kill me for sure... so ashamed of myself 😡 back to sleep deprivation ;(

No prob, I'm kind of bummed about my chem too since it's my absolute best/favorite subject but that's just the way it goes sometimes heh (like math the one I felt WORST on was my BEST how does that work!!?!?!).

Good luck to you as well! Just never give up, that's what I have to say to myself to keep going. This will all pay off one day I'm sure.

Aw he has to understand that sometimes it's the 'luck of the draw' and you're sure to improve the next time.

Also don't lose any sleep over it. I have sleeping problems occasionally as well, but just try to not sweat it since losing out on sleep is kind of a slippery slope.

yea there is a huge bias... the postings so far are definitely not representative of the whole score distribution.. the ppl who did well get stoked and want everybody else to know haha...
but for the people who they think did bad, it is my experience that schools really dont weigh the PCAT much, i heard the dean of admissions at UT pharm (ranked #4 for ppl who care about that) say today that PCAT was the least important thing to him; and posted stats showing a good %ge of the class scored even below 50%.. so dont get discouraged

Verbal - 97
Biology - 94
Reading Comp - 91
Quantitative - 85
Chemistry - 85
Composite - 95

I'm giddy as a schoolgirl right now! Could hardly believe it when I saw the scores. I was hoping for 75 composite! 😀

Thanks for this post.

I completely understand the frustration coming on SDN and seeing every one with at least an 80 or above and thinking "ummm WTF?!? who are these people???"
But like he/she said - people only tend to post good scores.
I scored a 43 composite my first time and was too ashamed to tell anyone. This time I scored a 71 which looks like dirt compared to what everyone else is posting on here right now, but I am still satisfied. I am a firm believer that GPA is an accurate reflection of ones potential for success in pharmacy, or any professional school, so I feel confident that my GPA will level me out.

Yeah I have seen nearly all 90+% so I was kind of sad that I didn't break 90, but honestly ~70 is average correct so mostly everyone who managed to do relatively well still stands a fighting chance even if they're not the 'monsters' that post here. Dang it a 99%, it felt like I was punched in the chest when I read that.

I agree, but even still GPA alone doesn't really 'level out' an applicant as far as complete package goes, maybe just the academic part. People love to pour over gpa and pcat scores becuase they're hard, quantifiable stats, easy to compare, categorize, etc.. I think schools are more concerned (id say 60to40) with other qualities vs. measurable gpa/pcat stats.

Did you strictly do the practice tests or read through the entire booklet?

Please share 😕

Thanks for letting everyone know that the scores were up! I was just fixing to head to bed when I saw this thread. I've been losing so much sleep wondering when the scores would be posted, and after getting my scores, I'll be losing even more sleep wondering if they are good enough to get in some where

I am also applying to USF, although I am a little worried about them being non-accredited right now. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for ur post it really made me feel better! I hope the dean of USF falls into those that don't care much bout PCAT scores 🙂 :xf:

well USF is a new school, and i have heard that these new schools sometimes like to recruit applicants with high gpa/pcat stats to try and 'establish credibility' among the ranks of older, perhaps more "reputable" schools. By doing this, they can post online for example, a chart showing how 'excellent' their students and incoming classes are; this tends to attract more similar students with the same mentality.... schools will also do this to show off diversity with minority groups etc... But I wouldn't worry about it, most people arent good standardized test takers. its just how it is. some are. i dont get the impression that it is a make/break component of the app at all. and ive done some serious research and talked to a few diff. deans and adcom ppl.

my scores are

verbal: 63
bio: 79
chemistry: 84
reading comp: 24 🙁🙁🙁
math: 85

i can not believe my reading comp. score. i am going to have to retake because i want to go to Wayne State pharmacy and they require a 25 for reading comp. otherwise i would've been pleased with my score since i have a 3.8 GPA

English is my 2nd language and i guess that shows 🙁

congrats to eveyrone tho🙂

That's still pretty strong considering English is not your original language. I couldn't imagine doing this test in your shoes, and you did amazing in chem/math and bio, so don't get down on yourself.
