PCOM Biomedical Sciences 2019-2022

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did you get a complete email or just looked on the portal?

Both for me. I had gotten an email “reminding” me that my application was incomplete although I had submitted everything. I replied to that email and shortly after I received a response letting me know everything was complete. I checked the portal and all was marked as received.

Hello guys! I'm a BMS 1 student at PA-PCOM campus and i can give you a little insight on the program. Amazing program in my opinion. They give you a preview of the DO classes is what classes were taking. Same power points just not into so much detail, nonetheless just as hard and very challenging (trying to keep up myself) the Linkage really is if you have a 500+ MCAT youre guaranteed a solid interview for sure. As long as you do well in the biomed program. With that being said, although its 2 courses per trimester, don't be fooled to slack behind and get behind cause that's the worst way to try and catch up. Would I recommend this program? Yes without a single doubt. Classes start from 5-9:30pm. tutoring is available for certain classes, and great ways to get involved on campus.

My stats were 3.3cGPA 3.1sGPA 3.67nsGPA and I had a well below average MCAT score, so for all those that are discouraged, they see past that to get into the program... now getting into medical school is a different ball game. I have to definitely retake my MCAT for sure and do more hours, but definitely worth it!

Can pcom accept LOR via interfolio or do I have to fill out the letter request form?

I really wish this program was integrated into PostBac CAS like the other programs I’m applying to. Makes things easier.

I submitted my letters from Interfolio to the email they provided on the website. Took a bit for the letters to get accepted.

Hello friends! I am in a strange position and wanted to here from other folks who are either in the Biomed program or prospective students in a similar position. Struggled with my pre-med courses in my first couple of years and my cGPA is a 3.2 and sGPA is a 2.7 from a elite undergrad uni. Studied my butt off to get a 510 MCAT but really dont know if it'll be enough to get into PCOM-PA normally considering the very low science GPA. I've heard a lot of good things about this program and really like the conditional acceptance. Anyone else in a similar position of low GPA, above average MCAT considering this program? Would love to hear some input, thanks!!

I can promise you that if you did their Biomed program for 1 year and do well, you will be immediately accepted into their DO program the second year!!! You are a lot of similar candidates in my current biomed year 1 rn, so not worried about you getting in!

My friend just finished his 1st year of the program. He got in with much worse stats than you and while he did not get in right after the first year, his MCAT was far worse and was the reason why he didn't. Either way he should have conditional acceptance after the second year now as long as his new MCAT is above 50th percentile or something like that. With your MCAT, I think you have a good chance of getting in after your first year as long as you do well during your 1st year. The average for PCOM's med school class is like a 506 I believe.

Does anyone know if you can just use your medical school personal statement for the application?

Has anyone applied to multiple campuses? I prefer Philly by a longshot but also will consider going to GA campuses if need be (2hrs vs 10 hrs from home). Does each campus make an unbiased decision on MS applications? In other words, if I apply to all three campuses will my chances of a Philly acceptance be affected?

I would add in specifics to why you think a masters will help your end goals.

I applied to all three campuses at the same time. Got into the Georgia campus at the start of December. Today I checked the mail and got an acceptance packet from the South Georgia campus, so I don't think your chances are affected.

Hello! I am currently applying to this program and waiting on all of my documents to be received and verified. I have a cGPA of 3.39, sGPA of 3.1, MCAT 505. Anybody else have similar stats and hear back already?

I had very similar stats! slightly higher cGPA, but slightly lower sGPA and I applied mid-Decemeber and heard back 2 weeks ago!

I used my personal statement and just edited it to tailor it more to the word count and added a paragraph on how the program would help me get into med school and reach my overall goals.

what abou that overall sGPA though? if it's close to the conditional acceptance requirement throughout the year do you still have a chance? assuming the mcat is fine

Does anyone know if applying without a standardized test score hurts your chances? My cumulative is enough to get it waived (thank god for grade replacement) but am I at a disadvantage from someone that does send scores in?

I dont think so, as long as you have over 3.2 on undergrad degree

Anyone else having trouble getting complete? I have had all the documents submitted in Early-Mid December and still have some blank on my portal for all 3 campuses. This is frustrating because it says they won't verify anything via email.

It took mine a few weeks to get everything complete! I would call one of the campuses and explain to them that it's been over a month and ask them if there is anything wrong. It may have just gotten lost in all the apps, especially with the holidays.

They had emailed me that they had not received my test scores even though I had initially sent them and then I resent them and it was marked complete the next day.

So I submitted my app the to philly and Georgia campuses via gradcas yesterday.

How long does it take to hear back? I see you guys talking about an online portal?

I sent my Gradcas application late November and was complete Dec 5th. My portal updated with a deposit mid January and got my letter in the mail a couple days after. So, like someone here told me, just have a little patience and positive vibes.

You will get an email with a login for the portal to your application and that's where you can tell how things are moving up until your complete. Then you just wait.

how long did you wait between your PCOM app Portal being complete with all of your material and getting the deposit notification on the portal?

I waited about two days and then it was complete. That was around December 5. Hi had a deposit update mid January. But, they only met once to accept students in December. They told me that once January starts they usually have admission meetings every two weeks or so. You won’t get a notification on the portal if there is a deposit update, you just have to check.

So I applied to their DO program as well so they already had my scores and didn't make me send it in again

I am applying for MSBMS 2020 through GradCAS and not sure if I need to get separate recommendation letters for each location I apply to or just once like the transcript. Does anyone have an idea? - Thanks

I have no idea. I applied to Georgia first and then the PA campus and 1/3 LOR’s were copied into the second app. Idk why or how.

For anyone currently applying, make sure you tell your profs writing your LOR to submit it on a letterhead! Finally got updates on the portal and they are instructing me to have my prof resubmit the LOR on a letterhead

Considering applying to the program if I don't get in anywhere this cycle. Does anyone who is in the program know how feasible it would be to tutor a 2-3 per day during the program to try and pay rent/living costs?
