PCOM-Ga Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
eee! I hope I get my letter too - I'm probably a day or two away from the ATL letters 🙂 Thanks for posting! So glad you got in!

I interviewed on the 11th and they told us that we would know in 3-4 weeks. I'm surprised yalls letters are already out!

Wow! Congrats! So you heard from them in almost a week? I interviewed yesterday morning. I hope i get the same news next wednesday!

Yep... I'll bet the letters were sent out exactly a week after I interviewed. BigBoosting, hope you get the letter tomorrow!

Accepted!!!! Yessss!!!!!!!!!

congrats! i'm curious, did they also tell you that it would take 3-4 weeks and you just happened to hear earlier or did they say you'd know in about a week?

Congrats to all of you who have been accepted! I can imagine how rewarded you must feel!! 🙂

I was on the first interview day and Trena said she'd send out letters in a week or two. It only took 1 week though.

Thanks and good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear or who has an interview coming up!

I created a Facebook Page for the Class of 2015. Join if you like.

I went with a Community Page because Facebook revamped how they do Groups this past week and now they're basically useless. They lack the Discussion tab, which I think is important for people looking for apartments and roommates.

I also got accepted. I was in the first group on oct 4th. I know exactly who u r Bigboosting because u mentioned how u were waiting to hear back from VCOM-CC, congrats on ur acceptance. Luckily I got accepted to both schools; both schools are awesome.

Oh cool! Congrats on the VCOM-CC and GA-PCOM acceptances! They pulled me off hold so I'm interviewing there in a few weeks. I'm pretty sure I'm going to GA-PCOM but I want to visit VCOM-CC first before I completely decide because my mom lives just outside of Spartanburg. Which do you think you'll be attending now that you've seen them both? Can PM me if you like.

How far is the school from the airport please?

About 35 miles and 1-3 hours depending on traffic

Try not to fly in to where you have to drive between the hours of 7-9am or 4-7pm

Edit: Pro tip for out of staters...Check http://www.georgia-navigator.com/maps/atlanta before driving anywhere to see if it would be faster to take 75/85 or 285

You'll be fine. The interview experience was really great. At the time I interviewed, it was my third, and it was by far the most relaxed and pleasant interview. It made me think I was crazy to interview anywhere else than in Georgia in the first place...I like it here too much, partly because of the southern hospitality. So try not to worry too much. But I'll send you positive energy anyway 🙂

I couldn't stress this more. It was such a comforting, pleasant experience. The way they treat you really speaks volumes about the school and how everyone is like a family. I would def go here if accepted.

based on the facilities and the set up i felt no family atmosphere. the interview was nice though, definitely nothing to stress about. the location of the school is good too.

Cliffhuxtable, what about Ga-PCOM made you feel that there wasn't a family atmosphere? Was there any particular reason?

the facilities are all in one building, which is a warehouse that has been refurbished and just had a cold, sterile feel to it. whereas, other schools i interviewed at it was more welcoming and cozy. PCOM-Ga is a good school, but it just wasnt a great fit for me I don't think.

Its clean and sterile, but nothing is cold about it but the temp in the anatomy lab. As a student who spends a majority of the 24 hours in a day here, it is a warm and cozy place and just after a few weeks classmates begin to feel like family.

Congrats to those accepted already and good luck to the rest of you...enjoy your free time while you can and dont spend it worrying about next year.

Interviewed here yesterday (10/19), and everything that's been said was accurate. The interview experience was really great. The facilities are excellent, and the students are extremely friendly. The interview itself was very stress-free and relaxed. I'd definitely attend here if accepted. Now on to more waiting! Yaaaaaay!

How long did it take for them to post your LOR as received after it was transmitted?

Thank you for the energy.... I hope I have a good experience. :xf:

I have an interview scheduled Nov 1st....very excited!! Anyone else scheduled for that day? Any tips for the interview?

Hey y'all,

I'm interviewing this Monday (25th!) and so I understand there are two faculty members who together interview you. Does anyone remember what kind of questions they asked?

Has anyone ever gotten asked something about healthcare reform or the state of the care now? For people who already interviewed, was the interview really formal or just general questions about why you want to be doc? 🙂

Congrats on the interview.

The interview is very laid back and can be quite conversational at times.

For past specific questions asked, go here. I was not asked any questions about the future of the profession. Pretty much any professional school can be found through these pages by the way.

Good luck!

Anyone else other than the first week's group gotten their acceptance letters yet?

A class of 3 won't do 🙁

thanks! that link was very helpful.🙂

In the email that acknowledges receipt of the supplemental app, they provided a login and PIN.

ok thanks! about how long after you submit the secondary should i expect the email? I submitted it a week ago.

I think the next round of acceptances will be for weeks Oct. 11/12 and Oct. 18/19 so should get letters next week, one way or the other. I believe she said to contact PCOM if you haven't received a letter in four weeks maximum after interview.

For those accepted....... Is the envelope thick or thin? How much is the deposit?🙂🙂

Hey man,
I'm a 1st year... got on the forums for the first time in a while (you quickly forget about them after you are in and lose your mind and all sense of time). You definitely have to go somewhere you feel comfortable, or you will be perpetually unhappy...

For those of you who are on the fence however, I hope that you make the best decision for you. I've personally lived in many places around the US and Europe, and I'll tell you I am exquisitely happy here.

A word on the building and the community atmosphere.

The building is just that... a building. It houses everything you need to facilitate your studies. There are not a lot of extras.

That being said, Suwanee is pretty amazing. I'm not a city boy by any means, so Atlanta would be hell... but this place is not too overwhelming. The running trails, parks, restaurants, theatres, etc make for enough to do with your very very limited down time. And the ATL is a frequent hangout post-exam. Some students even live there. For those of you already in, I can't stress how GLAD I am that I only live 0.5 miles from school. The fitness room is conveniently free (though small), but there are 1,000 gyms and martial arts studios within a stone's throw.

As for the "family-ness"

I am amazed at how many people in our class (and the few 2nd years I know) are absolutely awesome. You will definitely find yourself with friends that you admire and want to keep up with. Every free moment I get I am either asleep or hanging with different people. Single guys, married guys, golf, grilling, partying... The second years are awesome and really helped everyone get settled in, and the lab TA's are geniuses (also 2nd years).

And the faculty, while sometimes quirky, are very personable and accomplished in their field. There are definitely favorites for their teaching style, but every one is brilliant and knows the USMLE/COMLEX backwards/forwards. That is what counts.

So yeah... the building is mostly a place to study and go to lab. But once you get to know the area and the people, it is undeniably like a very large, loving, slightly damaged family that you wish you had more time to hang out with.

Great post! Good luck everyone :luck:

Hey guys,

I got an invite from PCOM Georgia this week. Turned them down because I already interviewed/accepted to my first choice. Turned out ok for me. Would have loved to attend either PCOM-PA or PCOM-GA these schools seem really nice and have top level medical education.

Here are my stats if anyone is wondering:

MCAT-27-Q (7P 10V 10B)

Overall GPA-3.6

Good luck and congrats to everyone accepted!

Congrats! Just curious, when were you complete at PCOM-GA?

As BigBoosting said, "Anyone else other than the first week's group gotten their acceptance letters yet?"

"A class of 3 won't do"

Anyone that interviewed in the last three weeks heard anything from PCOM-GA.?
