PCSOM Class of 2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My weekend was pretty good. I took my brother and mom to Breaks Interstate park and showed them around. We took some pics of the park, which was absolutely beautiful. I posted them on our webpage under the recreation tab if anyone would like to look at them. Anyway, the weekend was pretty nice and we did some yard work as well.

How was your weekend Willie?

Aaron

Aaron,
Good idea posting the pics on the website, they look good. 👍

Hey Dennis,

We are going to be neighbors friend. I will be moving in on July 15 on the first floor. Thanks for the compliment about the webpage.

Aaron
****! There goes the neighborhood.

hahahaha

You got that right. Are you going to be moving in on June 15. I was at the apartment on Saturday and they were dry walling all three floors. I think they will be finished very soon. Later bro.

Aaron

P.S. Do you play golf by any chance?

I have played about three times. I wouldn't call myself a golfer. Picture Happy Gilmore without the long drives and with a big slice, cruder language and less patience. I did spend about half my interview talking about golf though, cause they asked me if I had any questions and i said, "Yeah, can you show me an acre of flat grassy land around here?" My interviewers said," yes the golf courses." They talked about how Golf Magazine had done an article on the course in Pikeville.

I am gonna move in probably first week of August. I'm on the third floor middle. Did they finish the outside stairs and railings yet? Marvin said there were gonna be nice columns and stuff.

Hey Guys,

Just got back from traffic school. Half of the class I felt like I was going to go to sleep. I hope that this isn't an indication of things to come  . Not much is happening with me right now.

Aaron,

I had to work this past weekend. So, I didn't get to do that much. I didn't even have anything interesting happen this weekend.

Ok y'all, graduation was last Saturday, so y'all are now officially OMS-Is!!! Move this puppy to the Osteopathic forum! Welcome to the family Student Osteopaths!

Hey Dennis,

They were still cutting the edges of the balcony out to install the outside stairs. Yes, they are working on it, but it is not finished quite yet. I will be glad when they tear down the old metal building behind our apartment. It also looks like we are going to have a nice parking facility. Later Dennis.

Aaron

If everything works out (aka if I pass lol) I will be a OMS-III. I am currently trying to work some stuff out with the administration so I can be a one of y'alls' teaching fellows next year...so we'll see.

Current PCSOMers

I was wondering about something. Do you think that Angel would give me the email addresses of the class of 2008 members? I would guess that it would be violating confidentiality, but I wanted to see what you all thought. I wanted to let them know about the Class of 2008 webpage so they could get an idea about housing, banking, etc. If anyone could answer this for me I would appreciate it. Thanks

Aaron

Aaron,

I think that would be a great idea, but I don't know if Angel could do that or not. You should definitely ask her, because I think the webpage could be very helpful to the members of our class, especially those who just got accepted. I can't believe our class is already full! I can't wait! Also, I just got an apartment at the Autumn Suites last week, so we're going to be neighbors! See ya later!

Misty

Hey Misty,

Yeah, I thought that it would be helpful for our newly accepted classmates to know this information. I am glad that we are going to be neighbors, I talked with Dennis yesterday and he said that he was moving in first week of August. i will probably move in on July 15. BTW, I added some of the pics from Breaks Interstate Park on our class webpage. Check them out, they are really neat.

Bye Misty

Hey everybody, I want to get the word out that I am in need of a female rommate for next year. If anybody is interested, please PM me for details. Thanks and have a great week!

when is this thread moving to the osteopathic forum? join the others... 😀

Have you guys and gals seen this website:

http://www.med-ed.virginia.edu/specialties/

I highly doubt this is a good determinant, but I took the test. Based on my answers, it says my top choices would be nuclear medicine, neurosurgery, and otolaryngology. I'd have to say that nuclear medicine doesn't interest me in the least, I'm not too keen on neurosurgery, but otolaryngology is something I have definitely thought about.

It's not really a surprise to me that family practice rated dead last on this list. Despite going to an osteopathic school, I'm not really interested in doing FP. I'm more interested in doing something procedural that will give me a variety of procedures.

Skb21,

I tried that test. It said that I should be either a radiologist, pathologist, or go into nuclear medicine. I guess that it can't be that far off of the mark (in my case) since two of these are specialties that I was already considering 😀 .

On a lighter note, I'm glad to see that we have made it into the osteopathic forum. We are finally MSI's

Yeah. There might be a little something to it. My top two choices right now are ENT and Ortho. ENT rated a 49 for me when I took the test. Ortho rated a 47.

Family Practice came in at a 32.

Yeah,

I remeber that family practice was rather down on the list for me too. Along with OB. But, did you notice that most of the questions were just repeats of other questions. It is like the test asked the same question 3 or 4 times. I can only hope that med school will be like this  .

Yeah. Those repeat questions really started to irritate me when taking the test.

The low end ratings for me were family practice, pediatrics, general internal medicine, and occupational medicine (whatever in the hell that is). Seems like everything that rated high for me were surgical subspecialties and internal medicine subspecialties like gastroenterology and pulmonology.

Hey guys, if you are interested in doing procedures (which I read a few posts up) our FP interns over at the hospital do a crap load of procedures. You just have to show that you are interested and the docs will be glad to let you do it. One intern in perticular, he rebuilds faces with the oral/max guy, tubes the patients on all the codes, spinal taps, central lines, and of course, OMT is considered (and billed!) a procedure and all of his patients in the clinic get that.

Bottom line, when you go rural, you get to do more. lol

Hey everyone,

I just updated the webpage again. I have some pictures of different apartment complexes in Pikeville, just click on the links. Take care everyone.

Aaron

Hey everybody,
I just attended a manual therapy conference this weekend and the instructor, Dr. Stephen Davidson, said that Ed Stiles is doing a great job with the OMM dept at PCSOM and that students from other schools are very impressed with PCSOM students' knowledge and skill. Thought you guys might like to know how other pros view the school. Later. 👍

What Davidson class did you go to? Was it his Neurofascial Release? How was it?

DOSouthpaw said:

It was his cranial concepts course. How do you know Dr. Davidson? I am gonna try to get him to come out to Pikevegas. He wants to and told me to see if i could get the school to sponsor it. Have you taken any of his courses? I know Dr. Stiles knows him.

I got a letter today from the Mississippi Osteopathic Medical Association inviting me to their Coast Convention in Destin, FL. The catch is that I would be volunteering to work at the convention, but for my voluntary service, they will put me up in the Sandestin Hilton.

It's a little short notice, so I do not know if I will be able to make it. I doubt I will be able to get off work, and I'm a procrastinator that needs to find an apartment in Pikeville.

Let's see.

Pikeville, KY, or Destin, FL? Hmmmm.

Hey Keith,

I have some of the apartments in Pikeville listed on our website. I also have the picture of some of them on the webpage. The apartment next to me and Misty is available still in the Autumn Suites... but I am not for sure

Aaron

Well, I'm the UAAO president, so I know many of the OMT guys/gals out there. lol Good luck trying to get the school to sponsor anything. If you want him to come, the UAAO will have to do a fund raiser and pay him cash. Honestly, I have not been too impressed with his teaching ability. Everytime I asked him a question at Convo this year he wouldn't answer, or he would tell me to pay for the class. If you ask me, that's a load of crap. Oh well.

Yeah he is a little short on the explanations and coupled with the fact that his NFR isn't the most concrete tech. it can be frustrating. If your level of palpation isn't at his level then you are left in the dust. He is a good business man and a good guy. He took the time to write me my LOR for school. Anyway gotta go.

Hey Dennis,

Did I tell you that we are going to be neighbors in Pikevegas. I wanted to tell you that the outside steps are almost complete on the building and it looks like the interior was dry walled when I was there on Saturday. Just thought I would give you a heads up.

Aaron

P.S. Misty is going to be our neighbor as well.

Aaron,

I was just wanting to let you know that I received those pics of the apartments you sent me, and I must admit, I'm a little worried! I'm trying to keep in mind that they aren't finished yet, but it looked like they needed a lot of work. I'm sure they will be nice when they are finished. Also, when I got my apt., they told me that I was getting the last one in the Autumn Suites. Mrs. Hensley also said that all of our neighbors were going to be medical students except for one couple. I'm glad that a lot of us will be living close together so we can give each other help when we need it!

Misty

Hey Misty,

My mom and dad talked with Mr. Hensley and he reluctantly showed them the apartment about a month ago. He said that he was worried if he showed them now without being finished that we would not be interested. He took my mom to the anthony and showed her what they would look like once they were finished. She said that they were beautiful. They wont be finished for two more months, so they will have a lot of improvement between now and then.

The area is a very nice area of town, it just is "junked" up a little because fo the construction. You actually could not see your apartment because of the construction on that picture. Honestly, I think they will be very nice once they are finished. Everything inside will be brand new with hardwood floors.

Dad drew me a schematic of what the apartment looked like, if I can find it I will scan it and send it to you.

Well, my wife and I were in Pikeville over the weekend and took one of the(last?!?) units in the Autumn. 2nd floor in the middle. It looked to me like all the drywall was up when Mr. Hensley showed it to us. The steps were almost done monday when we left. I don't think they will have any trouble finishing them in the time frame they say they will. It will be nice when that nasty metal building goes down, but that will be 9 months from now from what I understand. Every time I go to Pikeville, I like it more and more. 🙂

Hey Eric,

Yeah, when that metal building goes down it will be much nicer. I have been in Pikeville the past three weekends looking around at the surrounding areas, trying to get familiar with the school and area. I really like Pikeville too. I am glad to hear that you and I will be neighbors. When are you going to move into the apartment? I am going to move in July 15 or so.

You guys getting excited? I am worried about this financial aid stuff. I applied like 3 months ago for aid, but have only received one notice from Teresa in Financial Aid. I know she is on maternity leave, and is supposed to be back in think in mid June. See you all later.

Our move in date depends on my wifes start date at her new job. Looks like she may be moving in July 1, and me more toward the end of the month. As far as Financial Aid, I have been slack on that. I need to get my rear in gear.

What? That metal thing is staying outside Autumn Suites for another 9 months. Why!? It's official, I now live in the ghetto of Pikevegas 😡 ......well at least Earles and some others are there too. :meanie: I can hear the gunshots and sirens.

Mr. Hensley owns or will own the metal thing soon. He said something about having to own it 9 months before he could get rid of it. Some kinda town rule, or something in the contract.... I don't remember. But it will be removed some day. 🙂

HEY guys, I'm currently a 1st year and wanted to welcom you guys to PCSOM. I am originally from this area so if I can help you just ask. I will be here all summer working at the Mud Creek Clinic in Harold. I hope you guys are excited abouting coming. Although Pikeville seems like a small town it's growing, just give it a chance.

See you at orientation

Opps, sorry for the jargun. Convo is the AAO's Convocation.

The AAO is the American Academy of Osteopathy, the cert. board for OPP under the AOA. Convocation is their big meeting every year. All the big names in manipulation are there. It will be in Reno in 2005, so start saving now; it will rock!

Where is the Autumn Suites and this "metal thing"? I have lived in Pikeville for quite awhile now and I thought I knew every building on every street.

The Autumn Suites is located behind the Hardees. It has a green roof and is currently being renovated. It is directly across a Church of Christ and beside a Baptist Church building. You can see if from Hambley Blvd as you pass Hardees going towards campus.

Hey Everyone,

Wanted to let you know that I updated the webpage. Hope everyone is having a great day.

83 days and counting until the First Day of Class 😳

Key Karen,

Thank you for your welcome, we all really appreciate it. Have fun working at the Mud Creek Clinic this summer. I think Pikeville is a nice town and a great place for a school with not a lot of distractions. See you soon.
