I turned in my penn supplementary in august and have been complete since they got my mcat scores in august. I haven't heard anything from them even though I've been invited to interview at comparable schools. Anyone know anything about their admissions process? anyone have any advice? I'm from Pennsylvania and would love to go to Penn Med.

Hey Val!

UPenn is a non-rolling admissions school so do not worry. They interview until late February. A friend of mine applied really early on and he got an interview invite in early November over 2 months since he was complete. UPenn may just be slow right now because it does receive so many applications. UPenn is by far my #1 choice but my situation with the school is a bit different since I applied early decision and was deferred to regular decision. Honestly, call UPenn if you are really wondering about your status. The admissions people are the best.  😍 😍

I'm in the same boat as you valiumv. I don't think they've started offering interviews to the August MCATers, although as you know from personal experience other top schools have. Like Drj2b said, this probably has something to do with their being non-rolling. Incidentally, I don't think Yale has started getting back to people who were complete there in October/November...I think I was complete there in early November, because I dragged my feet writing their essays.

See this thread for SDN interviews with Aug. MCAT:

Neuronix?

just to repeat everything eveyrone said: Penn's non-rolling. Don't worry if you ahve a late interview because all apps are reviewed at the same time.

Definitely call Gaye Sheffler. She's really really sweet, and it might get you extra points if you call.

We haven't heard anything yet about application volume yet, but it seems that the applications are on the rise here.

It's a really awesome school. You do well making it your number 1.

Sorry, I wish I knew. I told a MD/PhD applicant last week that if she hadn't heard by now that she probably wouldn't and lo-and-behold she got an invite yesterday.

To echo what has been said previously, call the admissions office and ask them to make sure that your application is complete and see if you're still in the running for an interview.

Good luck!

thanks guys. waiting for interviews, acceptances, VACATION!

Just got the e-mail yesterday!

hey usmaple, when have you been complete since?

Early October.

Hey usmaple!

Congrats on the interview invite at the best school ever (at least for me). UPenn is phenomenal. I wish you the best of luck at your interview and I hope we both get in! I must echo that I 😍 UPenn!

yeah i too just got the e-mail invite, yesterday actually. I think penn is a great school, i would love to get in. Don't know if i like it as much as Duke, but still.

for those of you at penn, what do you guys like most/least about the school?
and what are these medical fraternities? i think i'm going to try to stay at one of them the night before my interview. the more people i can meet the better.

Everyone I know at the med school here likes it a lot, but I have no personal experience with that (obviously), as I'm an ugrad. But my education here has been f***ing amazing. Amazing speakers, classes, etc. Most of all amazing friends. If Penn's med school experience is half as good as the undergrad experience, I'd say it should be everyone's first choice.
Ciao,
Ari

Don't worry. It took forever for me to hear back for my Penn interview. I think it was like Mid December before I got my email, and I know that people heard back even later.

i called the adcom office once to see what was u with my file since it feels i've been complete forever. but all i got was a recording and since i was late for class, i didn't listen too carefully to it but it was saying something along the lines of if ur not looking for admissions call the operator and applicants can check their status online. and then it started playing again.

what number would i call if i actually want to speak to someone in the office?

There aren't really frats at Penn med. There is one house just a block or two from the med school that calls themselves a frat and is located near a bunch of other frats and sororities from Penn's other grad and undergrad schools. Basically, it is just ten or so people living in a house together. Their rent is very, very cheap (less than $200/month), they have kegs, bars, ping pong, etc at all times, and they have a couple parties there a semester.
Good luck at your interview.
