Hi everybody

I have just been invited for an interview at the University of Michigan – perio program.
I am very happy that I was invited, but I am also very nervous as this is my first invitation , and I’m not really used to this. 😕

Any insight on what the interview is about? Any previous experiences??🙄
I tried searching here, and Google too, but could not find any related information

I want to have a good interview; any advice will be greatly appreciated 👍

what freaks me out is that no one seem to be willing to share info on this🙁

Congrats to you too.
I'll be going to the second date, what about you?

I can't say I'm freaking out -yet 😉- but I really wish that there were more discussions about perio interviews in general

you are right, perio and prosth threads are the least active when compared to OMFS/Pedo but i dont know why

you can check other specialties interview threads just in case😀

I was interviewed last year at Michigan and to be truthful I was not even satisfied with their interview procedure. Program director is really a tough guy. From morning you should expect to hear that our program is best and if you do this you will be out, you do this you will be out so be prepared. I schaduled second date of interview and in morning PD said to all of us that I have picked 3 from last group and I am gonna pick only 1 from all of you. Also he decides most of the time to whom he is gonna pick prior to interview and he would let u know on table that u r in or out at the end of day. Alsobe prepared of his favourite question, Why should I pick you and do not pick others so you must know a clear answer of this question.
Anyways good luck guys and I am on the same boat and I could nt get anywhere last yr and applying this year too. All the above is my personal views so do not pay much attention to that and focus on ur interview.

I heard the same about Michigan. I externed at Michigan Perio for a week last year and I felt the same way. The program director knows a ton and is very involved in research, yet he is very haughty about himself and his program. I got accepted to a few programs last year and chose Case Western Reserve for various reasons - to the point that I declined about 5 interviews after being accepted, including Michigan. There are many programs out there; some are there to take your life away from you for 3 years, some are purely research based, and some are purely clinical. I wanted something in the middle. The director of Case was voted AAP outstanding educator of the year and he's been here for a long time. Clinically, they do tons of procedures, more than many other programs. For example, one of the 3rd year residents here has done over 20 lateral window sinus lifts - in most programs, you might do 5 all together. Anyway, good luck everyone, and I'll be happy to answer anyone's questions.

Hey Pontic

How long was the interview? Was there any questions about periodontics or just regular questions about personality and stuff like that?
and how did you find the residents?

I'm sorry that you couldn't get into any place. Good luck for you this year man:xf:

Dude, sorry to hear you didn't match. Good luck this year!!

I have to laugh at any perio PD who is cocky especially some dude from Michigan 🙄. No offense, but I think he should feel lucky he even has applicants who want to do the specialty.

Interview was quite long coz I can't remember exactly but 5 faculty member were taking interviews, and it was preety standarad interview questions nothing unusual. But the only thing is he made his mind prior to interview so if you are good on paper and he wants u to take in u need a big blunder to change his mind and also if he did not make his mind for u then I think u will be just hanging aroung seeing Ann Arbor

Hi

They've interviewed one person so far. They invite one person per day for the most part. They're in no rush since they have plenty of applicants. The only way to speed things up is if you submitted an application and have many other interviews or have been accepted, you can call the director and tell him that you're interested in his program and have other choices but you don't want to make a decision without seeing his program first. Do you know what I mean?

Good Luck!
