Ok I'm not sure what the AACPMAS application entails, but I know when I was thinking about medical school that for all those apps you needed a personal statement.. can anyone give me a heads up on if the podiatry school apps need the same? Since applications for 2009 don't open until September 2 I didn't want to create an account just to check what the essay part might be haha 🙂

You DO need a PS. From what I remember, it's 500 words.

Any other suggestions on what to write? I'm sure it's different for everyone, I'm just having trouble getting started though.

explain how you first developed an interest in peddling worthless orthotics for a living. describe the emotions you felt when it first ocurred to you that you could make a $hitload of money scamming innocent people out of their hard-earned money.

I don't think you can get a cookie cutter answer here. A personal statement should refect you. Your style can say a lot about you. Are you pleonastic? 😉 Are you a get-to-the-point type of person? Tailor it to mirror how you think you will react in an interview. Be as much of yourself in your PS as you would in your interview.

I added a section about why I wanted to be a podiatrist. Personally, I didn't let that overshadow my entire "theme" of public service because I emphasized that paragraph with choice words, but tied it into the overall discussion.

To start my statement, I used a very personal experience, to justify my podiatry school application. GL.

public service? you're supposed to be a doctor not a ****ing police officer

I had trouble getting started as well. I read a couple of different personal statements from friends so I could get a good idea of how to structure my personal statement. Eventually....I created my personal statement using my experiences with my grandfather which demonstrated ultimately why I wanted to be a doctor(podiatrist). I also tied in how my extra curriculars developed me as a person. Also the best advice I could give you is that you must constantly get your personal statement reviewed/edited. I think I had a good 20+ people read my paper.

Good Luck on the personal statement. On the one hand it is easy because it is only 500 words, but on the other hand, that makes it hard to know what to write. Not a lot of room for filler, just make every sentence mean something. Make it personal and you will be fine!!
