Issue with Pharmcas...when you click on Academic History then click on Coursework.

Under the course level option...should I list Organic Chem(w/ separate labs), and biology as "Professional" or as "Fr/Soph" and "Jr/Sr"?

GAP (Generally Accepted Principle) states those are fr/soph classes. I would say anything you are able to take within the first two years, should be listed as fr/soph regardless of when you actually took the class.

Professional classes are for post-graduation classes, like MBA, JD, PharmD, MPH, etc.

1 more quick question...what do I label the tutorial classes as? At our school we have a general chemistry tutorial and organic chem tutorial. You just show up, do problems and get an A for participating. Should I label those as Technical/Vocational?

Thanks

Label the tutorials like you labeled the class it went with. Organic chemistry is not considered professional coursework.

At my university Organic Chemistry was a 300-level class, so I listed it as Jr/Sr.

Most of my biology classes were 100 or 200-level so they were listed Fr/So.

My university followed this pattern:

<100 - remedial
100- freshman
200- sophomore
300- junior
400- senior
500- senior/masters level
>600- masters, doctoral

I took a 500-level class my sophomore year, but it was considered a senior/graduate level course...

Of course, YMMV.

For reference the school I originally attended went to 900 for course numbers, so it wasn't uncommon to take a 300 lvl course as a 1st semester sophomore. Honestly I doubt for the pre-reqs it makes a hill-o-beans difference as schools will fit the student's data into their model.

Hi Moose! 🙂

You are right that it probably doesn't matter much, and besides Pharmcas will correct whatever they think is wrong...

My school went to 900 too, but only 100-500 were open to undergrads. 600 and 700 were masters classes and 800 and 900 were for doctoral students only.

I think that schools have a lot of different ways of classifying this stuff!

Is the order/sequence in which the extracurricular activities are listed, of any importance. Because it says list "in order of importance" but i need to rectify one which will automatically become the last on the list. If sequence is important, then how can i get around itOr do i have to start all over again (i had 10 and i would hate to have to go through that gruelsome ordeal again).

I think that happened to me, and I think I had to do it all over again.

It's likely just the same as the AMCAS. You put it how it was on your original transcript before the class was repeated. So put the number of credits it was and the grade.

If no trace of the class is on your transcript then don't put it. (Happened to forget 😉 ) If it is on there then you definitely have to put it on there.

(Sucks because I didn't drop one of my classes and it's a GPA killer)

I was just wondering how much everyone is writing on the descriptions for the extracurriculars section of the pharmcas application. Are you pretty much just stating a sentence or two about what you did or going into more detail?
Thanks for the help.

Be as detailed as possible in the given amount of space.

It sucks that you can't really say that much. It limits you to like 175 characters including spaces. That's like two lines. I've got a lot to say, they need to give us more room! 😀

Has anyone submitted their application yet? I'm still waiting on one transcript and one recommendation, and its driving me crazy! When does Pharmcas send the first wave of apps out? I'd like to be in it, but I'm not sure my applications will be reviewed by that time.

From my experience, I'm pretty sure that Pharmcas does not start sending out your app to schools until August. Personally, I think you are WAY ahead of the gang. At many schools, students who turn their apps in by the beginning of October are considered very early. But, I'm not taking into consideration here schools that have early admission deadlines.

I just submitted my application on the pharmcas(reapply? 🙂 . however, my sister in law she forgot to list her COLLEGE PLANNED / COURSEs IN PROGRESS on her apps. and she e-submitted after noticed that she forgot to list her courses.

any expert that could help her fix this problem? PLEASE HELP?????. thank you very much.

Hey everyone i just had a quick question regarding the Pharmcas application. Can i send my official transcripts to pharmcas before e-submitting my application? I can't find a definitive answer to this on their instructions. Thanks for the help!

I'm pretty sure that ALL parts of your application are to be finished before e-submitting the app. Later, once your grades for Fall classes are available you can update with new transcripts.

Yes! Send your transcripts ASAP - they seem to be the part that takes the longest!

I'm currently filling out the section for completed coursework on PharmCAS and I have a few questions that will hopefully be answered. 😕

I participated in the Running Start program during my junior and senior years in high school, allowing me to take college level courses at the local community college while taking high school courses. Is there anywhere on the application that I can indicate that certain courses were taken as Running Start courses? The reason I ask is that the first two years of my college career were taken conjointly with the last two years of high school 😎 ; I would like this to be taken into consideration on my application, but am unsure of how to go about it.

Secondly, during my time as a Running Start student I had to take 90-level math classes to work up to college level. These classes are reflected on the community college transcript because it was taken at that institution, however college credit was not awarded due to the less than 100-level status. Should I even list these two classes, Math 90 and Math 99, as part of the courses completed since it is not considered college coursework? If so, what would I indicate as the course level? It doesn't have an option for lower than lower division... 😀

Thank You for your feedback!!

Hi - I had this situation, although not to the degree that you do. You will have to list all courses that show up on the transcripts, period. That was the answer I got when I asked PharmCAS should I list all the audit hours for assistantship in my master's work.

Also, you will have to put in the dates (obviously) for all the college work, and you will have to put in the dates that you graduated from high school, so if they compare the two it will be obvious that you were taking college level classes while in hs.

Pharm schools in cali have a Nov 1st deadline so it's wise to get your apps in early. very wise from what I hear. I asked the director of admissions at USC, "how crucial is it to get your app in eary?" His response "Very."

And they dont start sending out application info until Aug 1st.

Phew! I'm relieved that pharmcas won't be sending apps out til August cuz I won't get everything done until then. So yeah, I won't be submitting until Mid August hopefully... no later than September.

I have a question about the PharmCAS application. For the honors and scholarship section, I have two scholarship that are renewed every year. Do I write the most recent renewed date or the first year I received the scholarship? The thing is, if I wrote the year i first received them, almost all my awards were in 2004; would that look bad?!

Thanks for the help!!

Hi everyone,

I'm confused. For the coursework section they require you to fill in your course title exactly from the transcripts. Fine. But they ask for the Course Prefix and Number: (ie CHEM101). Well my school doesnt have that. On the transcript it only has the full name of course (ie General Psychology or Calculus I) and then it has the numbers (ie 01:830:101:06)... nothing like BIO101 or CHEM101.

Has anyone that this similar problem? I tried to decipher it and guess that my bio class would be bio101, and psych would be something like psych101... but for classes like human ecology, logic reason & persuasion.... i'm completely clueless. Any ideas? Thanks.

i still dont understand how the whole gpa calculation on pharmcas works......do they count everything together, including the repeated classes.......for example, if i got a C in a certain class and i retook that class and got an A, do they just average these grades and then factor it into the whole calculation of gpa or they're doing something else.......thanks

Send PharmCAS an e-mail and ask them directly...

Hi everyone.
Is it possible to open a pharmcas account now, and then only apply a year later? For instance, I am guessing the current cycle is for the entering class of 2007? If I want to be in the entering class of Fall 2008, is it possible for me to open the pharmcas account now, and get started on my application with course listings, and LORs? Will something happen to my account when the cycle changes to the entering class of 2008? will it be terminated or something? 😱

Id really appreciate your help! 😀

Ahh... too lazy to find email address... but thanks, i'll do that.

1) I will be taking organic chemistry II and calculus in the fall of 2006. This will leave me with a few general education requirements to complete. At this point, its either
Macro-Economics (if i am to go out of state) or
American literature (which is required for my in-state school, which does
not require economics)
My dilemma is that my choice of GEn-Ed depends on the school i will attend. And at this point, the school i will attend depends on how well i do on october PCAT. I do not want to waste money and time on a class i will not need, but neither do i want to jeopardise my chances at admission because of outstanding prequisites.
All the schools i will be applying to require all prerequisites to be completed by end of spring 2007.Do u think that if i take these classes in spring of 2007( as opposed to this fall semester) that i will not get admission.
(i alos want to make sure i get A's in ORG II and Calc and ir really do not want to anything with these classes in the fall)
Any advice will be appreciated.

2) in the advent that i do take the 2 Gen-Eds in the spring of 2007, how will i be able to send the grades to the schools considering that pharmcas will be closed by then?

Sorry to bug everyone.. but I'm calling pharmcas and I was put on hold for 15 minutes...

I just had a simple question about the pharmcas transcript request form.

For the part where it says degree (if applicable), am I suppose to fill it out according to what degree I will have when I enter pharmacy school, or do I leave it blank if I'm currently a senior and do not have a degree at the moment.

Also, if its my first time sending this form, I should put no for the updated and corrected copy boxes right?

Thanks a lot, and I know my question is stupid, I just want to make sure I don't have any processing delays, this whole app process has me stressed.

Thanks again 🙂

On the transcript request form you leave the degree awarded area blank if you do not have a degree at this time.

You are correct to put no for updated and corrected if this is your first request for a transcript.

i wish i could answer these for you,but i'm not very conversant the info. i hope you get a response from someone soon.good luck

That is a tough situation... On one hand you have the desire to do well in Calc and Org II - at the sametime, you dont want to look like you are avoiding a difficult schedule.

In my opinion - you should at least be a full time student. Grad school is intensive, and part of your pre-professional course work shows how you can handle yourself. If Calc and Org II bring you up to full time, I would say you could delay the two less-important prereqs until spring. If you were planning to take only Calc and Org II, then I think you are making a mistake.

Pharm schools know that you are probably applying before you have finished all of your prereqs - just ensure you have a full schedule, and that all of your prereqs are completed prior to matriculation...

~above~

p.s. - I will be taking Org II in the Fall as well - dont worry about it

i think what you have planned is fine. the gen-ed classes are obviously not as important as the core pre-reqs so it's good that you're getting that out of the way first (and getting good grades in them). as long as u put down ur intent to take those classes on pharmcas it'll be fine, the schools will see that you are underway in taking those. also in supplemental applications, a lotta schools ask u to list ur classes again, so they know u'll have all the classes u need. and for transcrpts, once you're done w/ the classes, send them into the school directly, i think that's standard protocol. as long as u finish them by their deadline (which i think u will) ur good to go. anytime you have questions, feel free to contact the schools, im sure they're more than happy to help u out.

and, those extra money you spend on one extra class would be nothing in the long run, so it's always best to take both. i took second sem of gen chem just in case i need to reappy again to schools that refuse to accept my undergrad's course sequence. i ended up not needing it, but hey, it's better to be prepared just in case.

Ije why dont you go ahead and take Org II and Calc this fall. If you really dont want to take the other classes, then take them in the SPring.

Nearly all schools will still accept you if you still have a few claesses you are completing. They call it contingent admission (contingent on you completing everything).

Remember i told you i still have 2 classes for Temple that i am taking this summer. So, go ahead and play it easy.

is there a way i can calculate the gpa just like pharmcas does.....i have classes from different schools, and with different system (quarter and semester)........thanks

thanks ije

Maybe someone can help me with this...

I took Advanced Placement tests in high school and they show up on my college transcript because my college required me to report it to them. However, I'm not using them for any requirements or pre-reqs, because I just took those classes in college. I need to report them to PharmCAS right? Do I need to send my AP scores report to PharmCAS, each school, both, none? Even if I'm not using them to fulfill any requirements?

Thanks

I was wondering for pharmcas when we update our grades, can we also update are extracirricular, such as the extra hours we've volunteer in the hospital?

I believe that once you submit the application, only the grades can be updated when the window opens in December.

Under the EC listings don't list an end date, so they will know it is a continuing activity.

Hey everyone i need some help with pharmCAS again. How do you handle transfer grades from other universities on your transcipts? For example, i went to 3 different universities during my undergrad education. I took general chemistry 1 at my first university and then transferred to a second university to take gen chem II. When i transferred over to my second university they gave me credit for their equivalent chem 1 class (with 0.00 credit hours) along with my transfer course listed (with 4.00 credit hours). This happened again when i transferred to my 3rd university. Therefore, chem 1 shows up 4 times in all on my transcripts. I'm really confused on how to enter my grades on PharmCAS with this mess (this happened with 4 other classes also). Do i enter them EXACTLY as they appear on my transcripts from all 3 of my universities?

Sorry for such a confusing question... This whole application is so frustrating for me. Thanks for any help!

I went to 4 undergraduate institutions - so I feel your pain! I think you are supposed to enter each course only under the school you actually took it at. For example, I took Econ over the summer at a state school, and then transferred it to the school I actually graduated from. When I entered my Pharmcas, I only entered Econ under the state school. I did not enter the transfer course that appears on the transcript of the school I graduated from.

I'm pretty sure this is the correct way to do it, as I have already submitted my application, and Pharmcas reviewed my transcripts. No errors appeared when they verified my entered work.
