Hello,
I just moved into 4101 Spruce Street and I got a whole package of advertisements for internet/cable. Does anyone have any recommendations? I only need internet and cable, which i know Comcast has a package for (gotta love those flyers)...but anyone have EarthLink Wi-Fi, verizon, etc? At my last apt, my internet connection service was sub-par so i'm doing some research! Thanks in advance🙂

I have verizon with no complaints.

i live on 21st..near spruce and i'm getting verizon. i called comcast and they said we needed to have cable for atleast 24hrs before we can get internet, and if you have more than one t.v. you need a diff receiver for each one [you lease these receiver btw- $8.50/month/receiver]. for the internet, you have to lease the modem [~$3/month]. and you have to have somebody [technician] come in and hook things up even if you can do it yourself, which was going to cost us around $65. it all just seemed so complicated.

but you can still call them and hopefully you'll get a better deal. a few people i spoke with before choosing verizon, had said to go for comcast. its def. a toughie...there's another good service called the phillywireless [~$6.50 for first 6 months]. check that out too, i heard they have good service in the center city area. =) hope this helps!

I also just moved into 4101 Spruce St. and have been trying to figure out the internet too🙂 I signed up for comcast cable/internet on Wednesday, and they informed me today that the building will not be wired for comcast internet for two more months! I called verizon, and they told me that I have to have a land-phone with them in order to do internet through them; however, I haven't spoken to a local verizon person, just their general line. Best of luck, and let me know if you find anything!

hey i actually experienced the same information in the past two days since i don't want a land line phone...i'm very frustrated since i will be completely moving into my apt tomrrow and will be without a designated internet provider (and cable too!). i called earthlink wi-fi since i had a flyer in my mailbox. the rep said i could get wifi internet access from our building and it would 6.95 for the first 6 mo then 20 for the next 6 mo (its a year contract). you have to get a modem tho (4 dollars a month to rent, or you can purchase one for like 80 i believe). anyway, she was asking me all these sketchy questions, like "when you look out your window, what do you see?....how big is the building you are looking at..." etc. so when i move in im going to ask my neighbors what internet provider they use before i sign up for earthlink.

good luck all!

Gentle reminder: Don't Post Your Address on Here!!
You don't want some pyscho to pay you an unwanted visit.

PS. We have internet though Verizon (DSL + budget line: $45/mo) and Comcast Cable ($30/mo for a yr). Good stuff.

Philadelphia is wired for wifi through Earthlink. This means you can get internet in your house wirelessly without any equipment other than a wifi card (there is booster-type equipment to increase your signal available, it sits near a window). That is nice because it lets you roam the city with wireless internet. Then you can get cable from whomever you'd like and you don't need a phone line. I have Verizon DSL 3.0/768 but I'm at 45th and Spruce and their CO is at 57th & Chestnut so I don't know if your loop length would qualify you for those speeds, I'm at 11,000 feet. You can get dry-line DSL (no phone) from 3rd party providers like lightning bolt DSL (through Covad). Lastly, when we first moved here years ago there was Urban Cableworks and they had really good deals. If they are still around, look into them.

Cheers,
Marshall
