Physic 2 and O-Chem 1 In Same Semester

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Physics 2 will be rough no matter what you take it with (assuming it's Emag at your school). Organic 1 isn't really that bad, it's mostly learning the general rules of the game. Anyway, if you can't handle two tough classes in a semester... 😉

Only you can tell that....because it depends on the individual. I took Organic and Physics along with two other upper-level science classes with labs for two semesters in a row and worked three part-time jobs as well. I made A's in all of them-- easily. Those semesters were a breeze compared to med school, though. However, most people don't have the same experience. There were plenty of people in my classe that changed their majors to liberal arts after taking just Organic I.

But honestly, almost anyone can do it IF they put in the right amount of effort and have some good luck. Yet, a poor professor will make it much harder for you in either of those classes. You really need to talk to the folks at your school who have been succesful and get tips from them. Find out what they did right....and do the same thing.

I took both and really didn't have a problem. I only needed a 55% on my organic final and a 70% on my physics final to get an A...and I dropped the ball on both, but I had just been to the 3rd funeral of that semester and was emotionally wrecked. (Up to # 5 for the school year now..wooooooo)

After being around Marines you shouldn't be afraid of a little work. Come on shape up and get busy, take Phy1, Phy2, Org1, and Org2 in the same semester. Who needs to sleep

I am worried about spending time with my family. I will not forget my wife, while I am going to school. I will limit myself to only two science classes a semester. Anyways, thanks for the encouragement.

Orgo 1 is a walk in the breeze compared to orgo 2. I also found physics 2 to be easier than physics 1. Go figure.

Was just a joke, I think two sciences per semester is sufficient. You may run into a semester down the road where you need to load up. Best of luck

What else are you doing for the semester? If you're just taking the 2 classes, then you should be totally fine with the family time.

If you're also working a full-time job and taking those 2 classes, then you won't have much family time left after studying. You will have some, but it will be much more limited.

I will be taking classes for my minor as well. Oh, and I do not have to work. This because I sustained injuries in Fallajuh, Iraq in 2004. Thus, the Veterans Administration is picking up my books and tuition for my undergraduate. Also, they are giving me a stipend on top of it.

Just depend on the person. I've heard many say that ochem II is easier, especially since you know what to expect. You have to think of difficulty relative to the time you're in it. Not when you're in the more advanced stuff looking backwards. I look at German 1-3 stuff and go "my god that was easy" but I'm sure some of it was difficult at the time I took it...ok, not THAT difficult, but tricky.

I took Physics, Orgo and Neuro all in the same semester. It is very doable and I got pretty much all A-'s and one A in the classes. I even had time to go out and party, lol.

Edit: I think its a good idea to try to have a somewhat heavy course load, because when you get to med school, you will have to take many hard science classes all at once. Also, if you do well with alot of science classes on your plate it might look good in the eyes of the ADCOMs because you are showing them you can handle having a very science heavy load.

I took Physics I with Organic I. Then Physics II with Organic II. That was a breeze in paradise compared to my Biochemistry course. It is definitly doable. Use the anticipation of the MCAT to motivate you to really learn the material, it will proove to be useful to you in the future. :luck:

I won't lie to you yes it will be hard, but its do-able.

I took Physics 1& Orgo 1 at the same time I would've been better taking them separately so I could dedicate more time to each subject. Got an A in one C in the other.

It really depends on what kind of student you are. I would say do it only if you're comfortable with the idea of taking the two courses together; they are not difficult courses, however, you are going to need to put work into both classes. From what I remember, physics II was relatively easy because it was more based on the applications of physics, such as electromagnitism. I don't really remember much about Orgo I; it wasn't difficult, but I didn't really put effort into the class, and as a result, didn't get a high grade. I think it's definately a doable thing and might make life a little easier when you have to take other upper division classes and not have to worry about taking those lower division pre-reqs (I took Biochemistry and Physics together for two semesters, and I am still alive and kicking. So if I can do it, you can definately do it).

I agree about the physics II being easier. It was a breeze for me. And I am one of the strange kids that enjoyed Organic, and I thought that Orgo II was easier than the first. Probably because it was all about memorizing reactions. Piece of cake. As for taking a hard load.... Try thermo, machine design, dynamics of machinery, fluid dynamics and two other classes in a semester. In engineering, unlike in science classes, you actually had to do more than just memorize, you had to learn processes. Physics and Orgo are totally doable in a semester. You will just have to work at it. Maybe a lot. But you can do it 😉

Physics II was harder for me as Physics I just seemed like a review of high school physics. I personally don't see the difference between taking 4-6 liberal arts classes or 4-6 science classes at a time with the exception that you won't be having to write a bunch of liberal arts papers typically in science classes. My personal limitation was always the labs of which I had a rule to take no more than 2 every semester. It's different for every person but you'll be taking a pretty full load of science type courses in medical school so it might be good to get used to it now.

there is a big difference in taking a full load of science classes vs. only 1-2 per semester.

hey i took ochem 2 and physics 2 Aced both of them. the more pressure the better. if you think you can handle it do it!
