Hey if this thread is already going please refer me to it, I have looked and haven't found one.

Anyways, are there any PA's that are taking the plunge into Med school? I decided I would and have been accepted to ATSU-SOMA and am really excited and nervous. I was wondering what the chances were of me being able to work a shift a week in an emergency department or urgent care. What does anyone else think?

Congrats and Godspeed!

Here's a thread I found by googling "PA to DO".

There is one 3 year "bridge program" that I am aware of: LECOM.

http://lecom.edu/college-medicine.php/Accelerated-Physician-Assistant-Pathway-APAP/49/2205/612/2395

There are 12 spots; 6 are reserved for students that commit to going into one of the primary care specialties. It looks like there are some stipulations. I'd refer to their website for the specifics, but here are the application requirements from the LECOM APAP page:

1. Be Certified Physician Assistants.
2. Have obtained a minimum of 23 on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).
3. Have a minimal GPA of 2.7.
4. Complete an osteopathic residency [if in one of the 6 primary care spots]

Haven't heard of any others or any PA to MD, for that matter. Outside of the LECOM program, you'd be starting fresh. I would imagine your PA certification would be an asset.
