Physics

Yes. One year of physics is required. Although it does not have to be calculus-based! Thank god for that.

i think some require calc based.

I musta been lucky... All the schools I applied to during my 2nd attempt didn't require calculus-based physics (NYUCD, Columbia SDOS, University at Buffalo, SUNY Stony).

Everything I learned in calculus kind of went in one ear and out the other LOL.. 😀

I have to agree. If you have an adequate understanding of calculus, physics can actually be better understood since most derivations of physics theorems are calculus based. Calculus based derivations are usually much simpler and less drawn out than algebra based derivations (that is if an algebra based derivation is even possible)

Besides, isn't the science of physics based on calculus anyway? Theoretically, I don't even see a student learning "true physics" unless he/she takes the calculus based.

Just my 2 cents

Yep.. Sir Isaac did indeed develop Calculus for the express purpose of solving physics problems.

For people who are taking both physics and calculus together at the same time, it's probably better to take the non-calculus physics though. Taking calculus-based physics without having taken at least 2 semesters of calculus first (derivatives and integration) is a nightmare.

Physics w/o calculus. It's all about the plug and chug. But I guess if u have already taken calculus, the calc-based physics will be more appealing.

One other note - some schools only require the lecture, not the lab as well. You can put this off till spring semester in case you get a letter in Dec from one of those schools and not take it at all.
