I took an upper division mammalian physiology course and got a C+. This is my only low grade out of all my pre-requisite courses. My overall GPA is 3.74. Should I take a human physiology course (lower division) to get a better grade for the physiology pre-requisite for UCSF specifically? What were your experiences with admissions into UCSF in the GPA department? Thanks for any insight! 😀

i don't think you need to retake that class, unless you have the extra time, because your overall gpa is aready pretty high (how's your pre-req gpa thou?). i think for ucsf, the overall profile is really important. i think instead of focusing on one class, you should think about improving everything else too. involvement w/ pharmacy, community, work, ur essays for your application... thou if you already have excellent background, taking the class over definitely would be beneficial, thou, i would stick w/ an upper div.

I second every word. I had a 3.4 gpa with a C or two, and got in. I have a lot of research experience, good recs, and I spent A LOT of time writing some killer essays. UCSF really does seem to care more about the whole person and less about numbers, which is one important reason they're so good! Best of luck to you.

Hehe, sounds like you're a perfectionist.

I'll be in SF next year and my overall GPA is a 3.6. I've gotten 1 C+ and 2 B-, all of them were biology courses. What I do know is people with 3.8 GPA have been denied interviews while others with 3.2 GPA got accepted. Certain schools, UCSF in particular, are looking for well-rounded applicants. They give big points to research and extracurriculars. You have a great GPA and nothing to worry about in that department. Good luck!

I thought as long as you pass your last few pre-requisites, then it's all right.

If you didn't pass the class, that's a different story.

i had a c+ in o chem and i got in. my science prereqs werent great, about half As, half Bs and that C. i wouldn't retake it but its up to you. grades aren't everything at ucsf. it'll help but they don't take plenty of people with perfect gpas. good luck.
