So I'm pretty much starting over all my Science and Math classes that I did poorly in. My other classes like English, Humanities, etc, I did great. Not worried about those. I don't want to give up like this. if you don't do it you will regret it. I just have to come up with a better study strategy and do this. I always been intimidated with science and math, especially math. I'll be 24 next month and plan on going back to school in June since it's too late to register for the Spring. If I have to take just 1 science or math class some semesters, not all, I will do that just to have a good grade. Just until I gain enough confidence in these classes to take on two or so at the same time. I just want to make it to interview at least. Some people don't even make it there. Like in my case.

I'm confused, are you asking a question, looking for validation, or what? 24 is not too old to start, I know there's others who are far older, but still.

I'm just sharing what I did and what I need to do to correct it starting at 24. Only thing I'm starting new at is age but starting over my science and math classes.

Just want to pop in here and say that while it's great you're doing what you need to do to pursue your dream career, if you truly do need to "just take one math or science class a semester" in order to pass or do well in those classes, vet school will be horrible for you. Vet school is like all of your science classes from undergrad pushed together into one semester, every single semester. Finding good study strategies and ways to cope with multiple difficult classes at once will better serve you for preparing for the madness of vet school in my opinion.

Agree. Speaking from my own experience, some of our courses are like half a semester in one lecture. For genetics, our instructor said word for word "This is three semesters of genetics in 35 minutes" and that was just our first lecture. We also had pharm, tox, path, path lab, and immuno that quarter.

Eh. That's true. But, yanno, your capability to manage things grows. I couldn't have handled one of my vet school semesters as an early undergrad. But undergrad grew me to where I could handle grad school.

I couldn't have seen the number of cases I get in our busier hospitals when I graduated from vet school. But now I can.

It's all a process of growing. I wouldn't get discouraged at not wanting to take a full science load early on in undergrad.

But by the time you graduate from undergrad you probably ought to be able to handle a full science load or yeah, yer gonna be in trouble.

Yeah I mean I wasn't saying to totally right it off if you can't do it now, just to realize that if you're toning down the courseload in order to get into vet school, starting vet school is going to be a shock to the system. Work up to it over time.

This sticks out to me. Are vet school applications a challenge you just want to see through, or is this really the career you want? It seems strange, after all the hard work you are putting in, for your goal to be just to make it to an interview.

I don't know if this is true in your case or not, but as a general rule it's not going to be enough to make it through vet school if your primary motivation is just your desire to "not give up." While being persistent is admirable, the only motivation that's really going to get you through is that understanding that you absolutely want to be in this profession no matter what. Don't go to vet school just to prove something to yourself; go because you genuinely believe you'll love being a veterinarian.

I appreciate your response out of all!! You are right! I need time to grow. I'm still at the beginning of my undergrad and still trying to find a good study strategy. I'm also working because I need money. I'm aware of vet school being more more difficult than undergrad. I strongly believe if I adjust myself better before I'm done with undergrad I'll be suited for vet school. Like you said it's all a process of growing and maturing. Thank you sir!
