almost all do.
almost all that don't, will require you to bring one to the interview.

None of them require it but most ask for it. It is always optional. I did not send in a single picture. A picture of me was taken at every interview I attended.

Oh, some do require it, or at least say they require it.

why do they even ask for pics???

Did you guys get a glamour shot pic worth 10K or what? Most of the professional places cost over 100 bucks for 5 pics!! i guess I need to worry about it when I get secondaries, but it's good to know.....

they ask for pics b/c they only want the most beautiful people coming to their schools 😀
i don't know why really. i'd imagine it helps them remember who you are after they've interviewed you. i can remember someone much better by looking at them than by reading about them on paper.

i think they require a picture to take the mcat. that picture, i think, goes to med schools so they can match it with the picture you send to them, and compare that to what you look like during the interview. if it's different people..you're in trouble.

if you're uglier than poop run over twice, i don't think you should worry about it. but who knows.... 😛

i had mine done at Sears. they had a special. it cost me like 50 buckaroos for a bunch of 3x5, which i would then trim down with scissors if the school asked for 2x2 or 2x3 etc.

i always thought it was just so they could remind themselves of who you were in case they forgot after the interview.

🙂

I think they use pics so they recognize you when you come for an interview. It may also help them remember who you are when they're reviewing your app post interview. They do NOT judge you on your looks (although it might be cool to have a class full of super hot students...) 😀

Here's the deal:

Photos are used for two reasons: (1)to refresh mental images from the interview and (2) some school match the MCAT picture to the interview person to the person who registers at the med school in August--kind of extensive, but I guess they don't put anything past pre-meds!

Also, if you have a CVS nearby, you can get 16 passport sized photos (2X2 as the schools usually request) for $7. Not bad, huh? No cutting or cropping required.

Best of luck, and smile pretty 😀

thanks guys! now what's CVS? 🙄

Just about all of my secondaries required a photo (or recommended it)

KDMD is right--CVS is the best place to go, although I heard the pictures don't come out so great. 😕 But that's definitely the cheapest and easiest way to go.

I got mine done at Sears for $40 and then I copied them using a Kodak picture maker for $6. the trimming down to 2x2 was annoying though, so I say go to CVS. they don't have that store in Florida though, so I had no choice 🙁 ....but, I ended up liking my sears picture and I made an enlargement for my Mommy. 🙂

Tweets•••••It's a drugstore in the Northeast.

there used to be CVS's in southern Cali also... but I'm pretty sure that's besides the point.

Just go to a camera store and get passport photos made. . . then, for the remainder, use a color xerox machine or color laser printer. . . 😀

Can someone explain to me why oh why do they require your picture? What does it have to do with the application process? Could a badhair day ruin you?

anyway, i submitted my photo to UCSD, but it was *probably* not required. It might have been, though.

If you have a Costco membership, they also do passport photos (2 for $5).. they aren't glamour shots but they will do the job (very plain, but also very affordable 🙂 - just my style) They take the pic with a digital camera, so you can check it out before they print them up to a perfect 2x2. As others have mentioned, you can scan the pic at one of those Kodac machines (I found one at Wal-Mart) and make a whole sheet of copies for $6... however, as Foxy mentioned, trimming the copies to 2x2 can be a pain.

Thanks for the responses.....I think I will go to Sears and get some pictures taken b4 my secondaries come in.

I had my hubby take a picture of me on a digital camera. Then I printed out copies whenever I needed them. It pretty much cost nothing. Know anyone with a digital camera?

Or, there has to be someplace nearby that does passport photos. Try Kinko's or Walgreen's.

here's another idea...you know those little photo booths they have in shopping malls...they kind you sit in with a friend and then make funny faces at the camera?? i know quite a few people who used pictures from those this year...and it's a helluva lot cheaper than what i did -- the passport photo route...

i think there's a possibility that they might judge you on your appearance if you have *crazy eyes* (that's a joke...but, hey, maybe if you really did look kinda psycho...and you had those *crazy eyes* in your interview...uh oh)...but not bad hair or anything else. after all, they're faculty of a medical school. how do you think THEIR hair looks on a day to day basis?

LOL guys...that's funny. We don't have a CVS in Washington, but I think I will go to Costco and get them done when the time comes.

Although, there's always the idea of kissing up to a friend with a digicam. 🙂
thanks for your help guys,
