What is going on out there? Does anyone know anything?

From other posts, I'm guessing that the deadline for deposits is this Tuesday. After Tuesday they will continue down their List and send out more acceptances.

My status on AADSAS is still show "under review" and I haven't been rejected yet. Guess I'll be on the waiting list?

Either way, I'm trying to get back to the mode to prepare for DAT again...

20% of the class = 80 * 0.2 = 16
35 people is close to 50% of the class..

Which one is more accurate?

Wow that's surprising..
It means that virtually ALL of those who got offered last month have sent their deposits, right?

Since the second deposit is due on the 1st of May, I guess we all have wait til then.. unless some acceptees get into somewhere else and voluntarily withdraw their apps at Pitt..

That will be a long wait..

I think what he means is that 16 people from the class come from the waitlist, so therefore if 35 people are waitlisted, just less than 50% of the people on the waitlist get into the class (16/35). lets hope it moves more than that this year!

Does "under review" mean the same thing as waitlisted? i'm so confused b/c i think earlier in this thread there were people who got "waitlisted' and "rejected".. or is pitt just still in the process of updating AADSAS?

Plus it is Pitt's policy not to let us know the waitinglist number.. like where we stand (some schools do). so it's sort of a long wait without any anticipation..

I actually made the phone call yesterday but I wasn't able to get hold of her.
I ended up emailing her.. and waiting for the reply.

Does anyone have any information?

From what I've been able to gather from this forum:
1. Pitt has sent out one round of spring acceptances; enough acceptances to fill the class of 80.

2. Pitt denied people

3. Pitt placed some people on a waitlist

4. Pitt still has some people remaining 'Under Review'

5. 'Under Review' means if X number of people choose not to place a deposit on their acceptance, X number of people who are 'Under Review' will be sent acceptances.

6. The above (item 5) will continue until the class of 80 is filled.

7. Once the class is filled, those who are 'Under Review' still will be placed on the waitlist to serve as back-ups should people who have placed deposits withdraw for any reason.

This is what I am guessing: They have not filled the 80 seats, because we have not received letters/emails stating the class is full. They have since sent out another round of acceptances and are awaiting deposits until the end of next week (figuring ~15 to send in deposits). They will then send out another round of acceptances, if needed, at the end of March. I am guessing this whole process will be over by ~2nd week of April.

Thoughts? Agree/disagree?

Has anyone heard anything?

Anyone else get an email from Rose today saying their meeting soon to determine the final ranked waitlist? It had a letter attached confirming whether or not you wanted to be placed on the list and was to be faxed by April 1st. I guess this is the "official waitlist" and all that other AADSAS stuff doesn't really matter. I'm "Received/Under Review" on my app by the way.

The class is officially FULL. Our second deposits are due on May 1. If someone from this full class does not send in their deposit by May 1st than someone from the waitlist will be picked.

Well, I think at least 3 or 4 people in my class got in off the waitlist - we even had one guy get in the second day of school. Not to give you a false sense of hope, but it is possible to get in if you're on the waitlist.

And yes, if you've got more than one deposit down on May 1st, you're in a bad spot. May 1st is the day that all of the dental schools share the lists of who has deposits, and if you turn up on more than one list, the schools will likely just drop you - it's a huge no no.

Spoke to Rose today and she said that the admission committee would meet April 8th to decide the ranking of the people that are waitlisted. She also said that Pitt does not let u know how many will be waitlisted or what rank you will be. I’m new at SDN and just wanted to share info

Just got this:

Your request to be placed on the Class of 2014 alternate list has been met with approval by the Admissions Committee. You will remain on the list until a spot becomes available or your last requested date to be considered has passed. As an alternate, the University of Pittsburgh cannot guarantee that you will be admitted this year, nor does this imply any suggestion of an advantage to be admitted in the next cycle.
In the past decade, we have generally placed about 20% of each class from the Alternate List. There is no guarantee that this will, however, be the case in any given cycle. The Admissions Committee has ordered the applicants on this list, but I am not at liberty to divulge information involving that rank order. Suffice it to say that if a concrete offer is given to you by another school, perhaps the smart decision would be to accept that offer.
I will keep you posted as to movement on the Alternate List as it affects your standing. Thank you for "sticking it out" with Pitt. Hopefully, you will hear good news from me in the weeks and months ahead.

It's tough. Especially when it is the only hope.

Pitt is the only hope for me for this cycle. No other place to go... If I don't get into Pitt, I will be re-applying for the upcoming cycle.

Anyone in the same boat?

I thought they would probably start calling wait-listees starting today since the 2nd deposit was due May 1st.

They might have called either only a few people or only non-SDNers.

Or everyone has sent his/her 2nd deposit, which I definitely hope not to be the case...
