I'm so new to this research thing that I dont know where to begin. To those with research experience, how does one secure a research position? Should I just look up professors and email them of my interest? And how does one get published? Thanks!

Start looking up CVs and research interests on professors' websites. Find one that you like and email him/her. To get published, you need to make a significant contribution to the research effort. Each lab is different---so talk about your concerns with any potential research advisers.

Check out the Forum on "Student Research and Publishing" as well. :)
