i am in big trouble........i have just cleared my exams and started applying for advance programme ......i have finished my doctorate studies back in my country china............but the problem is last week i went out with my friends to mall and we started doing shoplifting for fun.............we got out of one store so it thrilled us and we went to another one......where we got caught..........me and my other friend were arrested and they charged us with shoplifting and gave nontraffic summons on our record..........i still have to go to court this weekend but i m very scared now.............can anyone please tell me will it affect my chances for admission in school??????will it affect my career?????????pls ppl help me out...........i m really scared..........

Uh, you got caught committing a crime, and it sounds like you're getting what's coming to you. Of course it'll affect your chances of getting admitted.

this is too bad a situation!!..I really pity you. Why not go talk to the mall manager or someone..try to explain, plead, get down on ur knees..do anything..maybe they drop the case against you..it seems very difficult though.

U really need a good lawyer.

How can someone as educated as you do such a thing..anyways, no crying over spilt milk...

what is done is done, no use crying over spilled milk,get a extremely good part 1 n 2 score now n on toefl, i hope your gpa is good coz u cant change it now and apply to all possible schools, some schools dont ask abt that i have noticed in some forms, so u can escape, also try to add some voluntary charity activites on your profile, and inprove your profile as much as you can by doing research and worknig as a DA, and seek help from the best lawyer you can afford, and pray to god, and never think of doing this again, beleive me you will be fine,take care

sorry to hear your story. i guess you have realized how stupid you just did. it is a shame to play such kind of joke as an adult. now, there are two things you can do to help yourself. the first one is to talk to your lawyer with all your concerns since you already paid him/her to do it. second, google internet as much as you can and try your best to find a case similar to yours and see what the result could be. it is a lot of trouble to commit a crime especially as an international student or employee. you got yourself into it, now you have to pull yourself out of it. time is limited, so good luck and learn this lesson forever.

hi guys, thanks to all of u......some of later answers made me feel little bit good.......i know i did learn a lesson forever.............my lawyer told that he is goin to expunge my record..........i did some of surfing and found that it can be taken off but down the years.......my gpa is 3.68...my part1 score is 94 and i m waiting for my part 2 results...also i have experience of working as DA for 3 yrs in USA.........and i also joined NSP(national shoplifting prevention) programme and i might start working as volunteer in hospitals and library.........i hope this might help me a little bit.........can any one pls tell me that do they check our records while processing application or once we get admission?? or they might sometimes skip it????pls any help is appreciated..........i just have to telll i hope i just get admission cos i did not do because i m criminal or something.....i am law abiding person.......but u know sometimes u just dont think n that happened to me............pls guys dont hate me.........sdn makes a lot of difference to one's life............i dont know wat i m writing and wat i want to say so i m stoping here.......but thats my stats

when u apply to any school, and they ask u to disclose any such thing, make sure you disclose it, and be extremely apologetic in your letter,but unless they ask in the application do not tell, but do not hide anything if asked ,it can affect your chances even after getting in a school,but dont worry ,you will be fine, just explain that apologetically in the interview if asked, americans appreciate honesty,and they beleive that normal people make mistakes ,dunt worry, but please tell me one thing...........what to study to get a 94 in part 1?i am gonna retkae very soon, very nervous,please reply back, it wil help me,thanks
