Your best bet is to call the COMs and ask, but I doubt youll get any data. I was worried about this when I was choosing schools, but really this should be of little concern to you. What should be more important is how you think a schools curriculum will fit with your learning style, which will in turn provide you two years of prep for boards if you learn the material effectively.

This information is not likely to be available for most schools, which is fine, because it is almost completely meaningless.

A lot of schools will give you a "pass rate"

LECOM-Bradenton's average this year was 545 on COMLEX. The school does not track USMLE scores.

I am not too clear on the scoring for the COMLEX, can you lend some insight as to where this stands. What score is generally needed for a very competitive residency?

Thanks

Average is 500, so a lot higher than that.

Not really, because 500 is the average of all COMLEX test takers. Passing is 400 and the standard deviation is 79. 600 is considered a pretty good score. The highest cutoff I've personally seen is an ortho program with 650-- and they just raised that this year.

Most competitive programs say how they like to see scores in the 90s. This year a 90 was in the low 600s, and 95 was close to 700.

I can tell you for a fact that TCOM has scored the highest out of every DO school on the COMLEX (along with 100% pass rate) 97 percent pass rate on USMLE I believe (for the past 2 years). (comlex scores more recent... I saw the comparison chart myself that compared all the osteopathic schools.. TCOM was ahead by atleast a standard deviation)

Doesn't TCOM do USMLE prep?

They are a very MD-like school.

hmmm...They told me they had the highest pass rate on COMLEX, but I don't recall 100%. If that happened this past year, that's got to be some statistical anomaly. There's got to be atleast one person in 130ish who had a bad day.

The also said they were average on USMLE which about 85% of students take.

As far as things to think about when choosing a school, test scores are only slightly more important than school colors. I'd stay away from a school where 25% of students fail, but the sample size is so large that every where is going to be around the average.

So they are above national allopathic average on USMLE, and somehow get information on the average comlex scores for all other DO schools? I'm sorry, but I certainly don't believe the latter part... I don't believe that information is made public to other schools.
