If all you guys getting your scores now would take the time to post your practice test scores (AAMC, TPR, Kaplan, etc.) alongside your real thing it would be great. Include the score breakdowns and any commentary if you feel so inclined. Thanks!

I took Kaplan, which ended up being great for me since I had been away from school for so long (and the reason I was able to improve so much from my diagnostic, at which time I didn't know a single formula for anything).

Kaplan diag: 7-P 7-V 9-B 23

Kaplan full-length #1: 12-P 11-V 12-B 35
Kaplan full-length #2: 13-P 12-V 13-B 38
Kaplan full-length #3: 14-P 10-V 13-B 37
Kaplan full-length #4: 12-P 11-V 14-B 37
Kaplan full-length #5: 13-P 10-V 12-B 35

April 2004: 14-P 14-V 14-B 42s

I was pretty shocked...still am. The week before the test I realized I hadn't spent enough time with Verbal stuff so I was sort of trying to cram as much practice in as possible. But I kept getting more and more wrong (I'm talking about the Kaplan verbal section tests here). While I think the practice paid off, I think the kaplan verbal materials can be very, very misleading. I think their explanations and answers are flat-out wrong too much of the time, leaving you not to know whether to doubt yourself or the test writers. I think too much of the time kaplan would use truly ambiguous wording to stand in for higher difficulty. It was very frustrating at times, but, in the end, I guess it did force me to consider different choices and super-analyze the questions.

On the other hand, for organizing your study, sheer amount of practice materials (also well organized), and drilling you in testing circumstances, I think Kaplan was great. 😎

35R on the April 2004 (12V, 12B, 11P)

Kaplan Diagnostic -- 29 (12V 9B 8P)
Kaplan FL 1 -- 33 (12V 11B 10P)
Kaplan FL 2 -- 33 (11V 11B 11P)
Kaplan FL 3 -- 32 (11V 11B 10P)
Kaplan FL 4 -- 33 (11V 12B 10P)
Kaplan FL 5 -- 33 (11V 11B 11P)
AAMC 5 -- 35 (12V 12B 11P)
AAMC 6 -- 35 (12V 12B 11P)

This is also in chronological order.

I apologize in advance, I'm sick of posting my scores, but I do it to try to be helpful. Plus I didn't get a 43, so obviously by SDN standards, I'm not bragging

Interestingly, there is nobody on this thread who scored worse on the real MCAT than they had on the averages of their TPR or Kaplan Practice Exams. Most people improved a couple points or more and a few were right around the same area. We can only hope to be so lucky...

A lot of us took the practice tests while we were studying. I went up or at least stayed the same on each test. I halfway expected to continue the upward progress, but that would have been greedy 🙂

Seriously, at one point I tried to graph my progress to try to predict the real thing 😳

Kaplan Tests 25-29, only practiced with Kaplan

Real thing 28 🙁

Retaking in August

Feel very good about improving my score above a 30.... we'll see

practice aamc: 34-35
kaplan: 34-37
real deal: 31

the practice aamc closely approximates the real thing except for one crucial factor: nerves!! 1) be confident and 2) try to take simulated practice tests w/other students - - those two gems would've helped me immensely!

Pretty much the same here except I'm not retaking in August.

Kaplan 21-30

Real thing 28 🙂

A great score for the places I want to go.

AAMC 3R = 12p 11v 11b
AAMC 4R = 11P 9v 11B
AAMC 5R = 13P 10v 11B
AAMC 6r = 13P 12V 13B (taken two weeks before real mcat, last one)

Real Thing = 13P 12V 11B (lower than 6r but still very happy)

****! I had a 27 on the 3R (w/o studying). Does that means is not possible to raise the score??? It seems that everyone that scored in the mid 30' were already there in their practice tests...

Nah man, that's not bad at all. With no studying, especially. But you better get going, you should have been studying by now! 😉 But not many people say how long they had been studying before they took the practice tests, so it's hard to say. You should be fine.

Thank you for bolding those.

Come test your mettle in the Everyone Forum. 😎

bump.. thought this might be of interest to the august MCATers

Yeah I figured we could also add onto this thread after the scores come out in October. I'll be looking to break the record for largest drop from average practice test score to real MCAT score. 😡

same here will...for some reason PS threw me a curve ball
while i normally spank it in the butt

i think i peaked about 1.5 weeks before the real deal

I'm in. I only hope I can eventually post some score in my practice ranges come October (I must get that BS out of my mind).

But then again, April 2003 I took the MCAT for "fun" with only practicing 3R the day before (no studying going on there) and scored a 28, and that is exactly what I got on the real deal.

My advice... study for the MCAT, and avoid Pchem/MCAT semesters at all cost.

Sev

Severus, I SO agree with you. I had PChem and 11 more credits of upper division science/math all together - to further complicate the MCAT scenario in April I got mono. Can we say disaster? I only got a 25Q. 🙁 I retook this month.

Aug 2004 Test: 11 9 12 O, freaking O?? IM happy though

I'll post the AAMC and Kaplan practice tests I took and then update when I get my rela score in Oct.:

AAMC 3R: PS:8 VR:8 BS:8 = 24
Kaplan comp.😛S: 7 VR:9 BS:7 = 23
AAMC 4: PS: 9 VR:7 BS:8 = 24
AAMC 5 PS: 10 VR:9 BS: 11 = 30
AAMC 7 PS: 10 VR:9 BS:10 = 29

I'm hoping to get between 27-32.. that would make me very happy 🙂

On AAMC test 7 did you not take the verbal section?

No, I started to, but got sooo frustrated because some kids came into the library and starting yelling and talking loud like it was a damn mall!

That's awful. I would have asked them to be quite and/or gotten a librarian. How obnoxious.

Those kids may have been doing you a favor. I don't think the VR section on 7R was very fair or as realistic as the VR sections in the other AAMC tests (or as realistic as this August's MCAT for that matter). For me it was certainly, shall we say, a "statistical outlier."

Test: P, V, B
Diag: 9, 7, 8 = 24
FL1: 9, 11, 10 = 30
FL2: 9, 9, 10 = 28
FL6: 11, 10, 7 = 28 (omitted 28 on BS b/c center was closing)
FL3: 12, 10, 11 = 33
AAMC IV: 10, 10, ?? = 20+?? (skipped BS)
FL4: 10, 11, 11 = 32
FL7: 8, 9, 10 = 27 (WTF!! hope it was an isolated incident!)
AAMC VI: 12, 9, 12 = 33
FL5: 11, 9, 11 = 31 (added 8/7)
AAMC VII: 12, 10, 12 = 34 (added 8/10)
Aug 2004: 13, 10, 13 = 36 S (added 10/12)

I guess that 1.5k to kaplan was worth it afterall..

Bullish! 29Q! Why not a 30??

aamc 4r 31
aamc 5r 34
aamc 6r 32
aamc 7 30
Real Thing Aug 2004 -----> 29!!! 😡

avg. verbal: 7-8
avg. phys: 8-10
avg. bio: 10

August 2004: 9-9-9

I wish I had gotten 10s on the sciences....I'm feeling very ambiguous about my score right now. It's evenly distributed, but not having a single double digit score bugs me. I hope I'll get an interview at least...I don't mind reapplying again.

I am not posting scores...kind of a rule of mine, but my score was 3-5 points higher than the three practice tests i did...

I took a diagnostic and 12 full-length practice tests . . . . I'll try to remember.

My Kaplan diagnostic was a 30: 8 P 13 V 9 B

On Kaplan tests #1-#9, my scores ranged from 34 to 38. Each section ranged from 11-13, with one 14 on bio.

On AAMC tests #5-#7 (didn't take the earlier/easier ones) my scores were 36, 36, and 37. Same section ranges as Kaplan tests; 11-13.

On the August 2004 MCAT, my score was a 12 P 15 V 13 B, with a T on writing. So my real score was my highest ever, but it's just because of the "crapshoot" verbal.

I took the AAMC's 4-7 & amazingly got 11P 9V 11B on every one. I thought I would get that for sure on the real mcat. Although I did get a 31 my distribution was 13P 8V 10B.

Also, I thought I bombed physical and rocked bio (verbal was average) which comes to show you how unpredictable the scores can be. Oh well i'm happy.

Hey I saw this post and it resembles alot of my scores on the practices tests and im taking the mcat in april. i wanted to know did you just study these or did you take a prep course. what did you find the best way to study these tests. i just go through all the questions with the damn paragraph long answer explanations, but do u suggest anything else.

thanks

Im hoping I can get a 35 on the real deal.....

I got a 27 on the first practice test ever, then after studying my scores were in the low 30's highest was a 33 or 34. Got a 38 on the real thing last August.

AAMC 4R = 11 VR, 9 PS, 11 BS
AAMC 5R = 9 VR, 10 PS, 11 BS
AAMC 6R = 12 VR, 9 PS, 10 BS
AAMC 7 = 10 VR, 9 PS, 11 BS

Real Thing = 10 VR, 8 PS, 12 BS = 30R

With 95% of this thread having 35+ scores, I think it's important for everyone to realize this is NOT normal  However, great job, and all I'm taking from this is that everyone seemed to improve from practice to the real deal. The rest is just details.... :barf:

I'd like to know how some of these people (more than the one I am quoting) are getting 13P and 13B, since the scale only goes to 12 on these tests

For example (AAMC test 5R):

PS:
65-77 correct = 12
57-64 correct = 10-11
etc..

You are mistaken.

i can't remember my exact scores on the AAMC but i got between 26 and 29, i think... definitely not more than 29 and a consistent 10 on all VR sections... mostly 8s and 9s on PS and BS. ended up with a 32R on the real thing (Aug04).

Hey all - thanks for posting your practice scores and the real deal !

Just wondering how you went about studying in the week before the test - did you just do practice tests or actually go over material again? Trying to figure out the best use of my time ......

Thanks!

Bump

This is an old thread but I thought it might be of interest to those (like me!) trying to predict a score for the real deal on Saturday. Good luck to all :luck: :luck:

bump

(let's keep this fresh, pretty encouraging to see everyone do better on the real deal than on practices)

Isn't the average supposed to be 24? I was told the test is standardized so the the average on each section is 8. There's no average SDNers?

God, I'm gonna feel like sh** when I am posting my 26N in June. 🙁
